NHL Entry Draft Rankings and database.

Post by ElQuapo »

Does anyone know what determines how high prospects get ranked for the draft?

There are two danish prospects, Lars Eller in 2007 and Mikkel Bødker in 2008. IRL Eller was ranked as the 5th european, and Bødker is said to be among the top 10 for 2008. But in the game Eller is almost allways ranked at about 150th and Bødker does not seem very attractive. Both players have dominated the Swedish J20 league, and are maybe even getting into the national team for the World Championships.

They both have good potentials in the database, so I don't know why they get ranked so bad?

Is the rank based on reputation, and not ability? I would like to get them ranked higher, but not actually change their attributes.

I don't think that SI guys made a research on how talented are the ISS scouts...:D That should lead to those differences.

However, i personnaly don't care about how high or low a player is ranked by the ISS. I pay far more attention to what MY scouts say, and my personnal feelings. I even drafted a player not ranked by the ISS as 3rd rounder, and he then did great things! And sometimes there are players ranked in the top-20 i wouldn't draft even with a 7th round-pick!

I, for one, think that draft rankings *should* be based on reputation, and reputation should be based on ability, potential, and loads and loads of fluff. That's how you get the whole range of draft results, from Lawton or Daigle to St. Louis or Belfour.

I agree.

Maybe they just have a to low reputation set in the database, and don't have enough time to get a better reputation during the first season. Their ability and potential are fine in the database.

At times it does seem like the ISS doesn't really care how great you play in the European junior leagues; to be noticed you have to be in CHL (or possibly college) or play with grown-ups.

It's very difficult to asign the better potentiel for a unkown player :-?

in the ISS top 10 ranking for april (in ehm)
Patrick Kane have a potentiel ability : -7 (110-140) 2nd rank /-9 for me
Aleksei Cherepanov >> -13 (60-130) 3rd /-9
Maksim Mayorov >> -5 (70-100) 8th /-8
