Switching teams between leagues - problem with histories

Post by laskey 16 »

Hi all. I was wondering whether anyone could help me out as I have a bit of a problem. I have successfully edited the database so that the top British teams have switched leagues with the German DEL teams. I now have two fully functioning leagues. However, once I start the frist season the game records the British players league stats as "DEL" for the league they are in. Of course, that is correct and the game is doing what it normally does. But the 'problem' is that it makes it seem very unrealistic; if a league made up with 14 British teams did exist it wouldn't be called the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Is there anyway to change how the game records the league part of the players' stats without altering the histories of players who have played in the DEL/EIHL in past seasons? Sorry for the complicated question, its not the easiest to word.

Thanks in advance

I am pretty sure the league names are hardcoded - that is, they can only be called their fake name, or their real unfaked name, as SI has made it possible to unfake the league names this way.

Thanks for that. I don't want to change the league's long names, just the abbreviations. When I tried doing that, though, every player who'd ever played in the DEL had their history stats changed to EIHL and vice-versa. That's what I want to prevent.

Questions about databases should be in the Graphics & Game Add-ons Forum.

The editor is not a TBL project - so we don't provide direct support for it. However, there are a number of TBL'ers involved in the project - as well as a great number who have used it - so hopefully they will chip in here.

Welcome to TBL!

You'll want to head over to eastside-uk.co.uk for the editor and a list of it's features

Oh no!!!! (Using the editor to modify a player's contract)

Post by Konstantinov16 »

A word of advice for you out there who might run into this situation: I used the database editor to create a player whose contract would run out in 2020, which to my understanding is as far as the game will allow you to contract to from 2006. I was curious as to what would happen if I were to offer him a new contract... DON'T DO IT! Your game will crash! hahahahaha Oh what a day. Ah well, back to the drawing board.

Just make sure the database you're editing isn't the one you're going to use in the challenge! Anyhow, it's always a good idea to keep a clean, unmodified copy of the original database and make any changes in a new one. I hope it didn't screw you up so bad that you've got to reinstall!

No, thank goodness.

Post by Konstantinov16 »

No, it wasn't the one I am using in the Challenge. It was however the one I was featuring in my Blog. I can't recover all that work, but ah well, at least I don't have to reinstall. Well I guess lesson learned. Save often.

I think the game only allows 10-year contracts.

Luckily for Garth Snow, he doesn't have to worry about the NHL crashing on him.

Hi!

I had that problem earlier too...
The problem was that I had by accident clicked the button to create a new player.
So... I had an "empty player", with no name, and no other information either.
That player was on the end of the list with all players. I fixed that, and then it was OK

If that's not the case for you, then I guess you have to check all players you edited unless someone else knows a better way.

How to create a player in EHM

Post by Finny »

So I've come up with the thought of adding myself as a 15 year old, how do I do that? What tools do I need and can I get some advice on how to rate myself at that age? I was going to leave potential as random so that it'll be a surprise as to how I pan out.

I would assume to follow my career I select NHL, AHL, and Major Juniors (OHL, WHL, QJMHL) as enhanced and then just try to follow my team?

mod note: changed title to make this a "Created player in general thread" so all questions about this go here. batdad

I've tried this myself too - not adding myself to the game I play, but by simulating a game and following "my career" as it progresses, to see where I end up. Had all leagues at enhanced and unemployed manager, constantly on vacation for that.

Well, obviously first you need the editor.

If you want yourself to become an NHL'er, I wouldn't recommend random potential, because most likely then you'll end up an average player in the minor leagues at best, possibly never even make it at pro level. There's a very small change that you'd be good enough to reach the NHL, or even AHL with random potential.

Instead, I would rather leave Current Ability at random, and then leave technical and physicals on random too, but give yourself pretty good mental values, because at random they tend to be pretty low, and we all know how little they tend to develop in the game. This way you'll get the surprise of seeing what kinda player you'll turn up, although at the same time you can be pretty sure, you'll be good enough to make it big.

Look at other big names Potential Ability numbers to determine how good you'll want your player to eventually become.

sounds like a fun idea.

One idea might be to set potential to -15 (110-190), and like Tasku said, set some decent mental attributes.
With a potential like that, you could end up anywhere from fringe player to superstar.

Hmm... I've always been wondering about those minus numbers... how exactly do they work in the editor? :-k

That actually sounds like a fun idea. I may have to start a game like that when I get home today.

And I second the negative numbers question. I've never been able to remember how they all work... the negative numbers especially.

Ok so 1) Editor, assuming I can get it here, I'll have a look around the downloads. One concern is I downloaded the new rosters, so am I updating that actual roster database file and putting me in it? I am trying to come up with some rating, thanks for the info by the way. Thinking for a 15 year old, 8-9 is respectable for best abilities and 4-5 for weaker abilities.

This could make a really interesting blog idea. Following each other's stories from kid to NHLer.

Ok I got the editor, made me as a 16 year old with the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL. But problem is I'm not sure of the best way to view my career and kind of see what's going on still in the respective leagues.

So do I select NHL, AHL, Major Juniors as enhanced, start unemployed or go with the team I'm on and take vacation? Take all coaching controls away but still manage team? I just want to remove myself from the GM role but still view daily occurences whether it be scores, news, etc. Any thoughts?
