Minstrel wrote:Yeah NJ is always willing to part with Madden and/or Langenbrunner for cheap to get under the Cap; I gave a 5th for him with my Columbus game but got him for a 7th before as well, their roster/salaries just has them over the barrel and without Lou the Wizard to magically make problems go away like NJ has in real life they are a classic example of what I call Cap Panic :-p

Oh, and yeah I'd pay that for Crosby any day of the week.
If they would only make Gomez or Elias available Image :D

I got Nittymaki for Tim Thomas and a naff prospect. He's "slightly" overrated in the game though.

Hannu Toivonen + 3rd round pick for Brian Campbell + 2nd round pick is the deal I like the most from my current career with the Bruins, mainly because Toivonen wasn't of any use for me.
Primeau and Nate Thompson for Craig Conroy isn't that bad either :)

JS Aubin and John Pohl (who i claimed off the waivers the next day) for Antero Niitymaki... who became the best goalie in the league, with 3 strait 40+ win seasons including a 49 win season and lead me to the cup finals twice, with one victory... I'm still playing that game and he's been a vezina contender for 3 years straight... but never took it ome

I also got a few good trades getting injured players like Zach Parise

I found out Pronger and Niedermayer are somewhat easy to get, probably because of their huge contracts.
Jeff Carter was a player I was never able to get, same with Jay Bouwmeester, even when I tried to include like 2-3 first rounders and good prospects.

I've gotten Jeff Carter once, maybe twice. He's very hard to get. I've had better luck with Mike (I keep wanting to type Keith) Richards. I was finally able to pull a trade for Bouwmeester in my Blackhawks game I was playing before the latest challenge. I'll have to get back to that one. The only other time I've had Bouwmeester is when I played as the Panthers for a bit and that might've been in EHM 2005.

Those still can't compare to my best trade though. I'd have to say that was the one where I got Alexander Ovechkin and Steve Eminger for Ryan Garlock, Adam Pineault, Fredrik Modin, and the rights to Ryan Wilson. It was right after the draft and the Capitals were hot for Wilson (even though they could've easily drafted him themselves. I could've made this deal for Ovechkin alone by giving them the rights to Wilson and made one of the other guys. I wanted to get rid of Modin though. Ovechkin was taking his spot on the roster, so I included Modin and maybe a little more to get Eminger also. I haven't been able to pull off a similar deal since. I don't know if the fact that this was in 3.02 or 3.03 made a difference?

Wilson won in EHM 2005 couple of Norris with me. If I remember right, once he got over 100 assists. Simply an awesome player. Though he got great line ahead of him... Ovechkin-Thornton-Crosby :-D

Steve Eminger is another guy I'd love to have but they always rate him as a future franchise player. Same with Morrisson but I actually was able to pick him in the 4th or 5th round of a fantasy draft once.
Might be because I'm very stingy and not willing to give up too much. When I see a team likes a trade offer I usually try to get an additional pick or prospect, which changes their view from "we like the sound of this offer" to something like "this requires some serious thought" or something. I'd probably have to give 2-3 first rounders, 2 top prospects and 2 very good NHLers to get one of the likes of Eminger, Bouwmeester or Carter. And I'm simply not willing to give up that much, unless it would be Crosby or Ovechkin.

As for Wilson, I've got him in my current Bruins game, he played 60 games due to various injuries on D as he was my first call-up usually. He had a crazy +/- and about 35 points, but then again he was paired with Big Z. The thing that bugs me about him, like with Campoli, whom I'm getting rid off is, I'm simply not able to improve his positioning. Hell even older offensive minded Dmen like Visnovsky improved by 2-3 points yet Wilson just won't. Guess I'm gonna keep him in Providence for one more season.

Sometimes a team might be more interested in a veteran player than they are draft picks. Pay attention to what their team needs are (listed in the trade window). See if you can satisfy those needs. You'd be surprised how much that can help you in trading.

Here's a couple of my notable deals (first 2 seasons):

Seems like Blues are rated higher than Rangers in 2007 (although in my game they were dead last),so I was able to get some extra picks, including 1st overall:
IN: Blues' 1st 2007, 3rd 2007, 3rd 2008, 4th 2007 and 7th 2007
OUT: Rangers 1st 2007, 3rd 2007 :thdn:

IN: Nytti, Coyotes 2th round in 2007(turned to be my No.31 - Alex Grant)
OUT: rights to Tobias Stephan,Timo Seppanen,J.P.Paquet and g.Martin Biron :thdn:

IN: Rob Schremp =D>
OUT: J.Tambellini, D.Grebeshkov, 5th and 6th rounds.

IN: B.Seabrook, 6th round
OUT: Jason Ward, B.Coburn (depth d-man in my game),M.Pettinger, rights to J.Gracik :-k , 4th, 6th rounds.

The next one looks pretty fair, but I got two players I wanted badly to play for my team:
IN: P.Marleau, J.Cheechoo, 6th rounder :-D
OUT:D.Morris :dunno: , B.Guerin (fat contract),N.Dawes (was very good for me),R.Callahan, rights to R.Persson and R.Hillier+ 2nd NYR in 2007. :joy:
Also, I was lucky enough to get J.Staal in 2010 (via free agency) for $1,030,000 for 4 years. :joy:

I got Olli Jokinen for Datsyuk and a 3rd round pick.

I had Jokinen around for the next 5 years and he put up over 100 every season, while Datsyuk...well he put up like 40 points a season.

I haven't been able to swing a trade for Jokinen in EHM 2007. I used to go after him in 2005. Then again, I haven't really tried for him very often because of his salary.

I used to always go after Nathan Horton in 2005 but I can't seem to pry him away in 2007. I really want him on one of my teams.

Panthers are reluctant to trade him and the price is ridiculous, at best. Like in Philly, regarding the same situation with J.Carter/M.Richards, I'd suggest to concentrate on A.Stewart instead (S.Doan type of player too). Probably, he's available at the beginning of 2007 and isn't listed as untouchable. I had him for a couple of roster players, few good prospects and high draft picks. The price is reasonable, but he'll be there for years to come.

In my current game I traded for Kenndal McArdle in the preseason of the 07/08 season. I don't think he's good enough to take one of my top two RW spots yet though.

I still want Horton and/or Carter on my team though.

I'm thinking about including Savard in a trade for Carter. The only problem is, Carter just signed for another year in Philly for 2.2m while Savard is making 5m and Philly is just below the cap. Only a few days till the end of June though, Philly might lose some players into free agency and I might try to steal Carter :D

That's the whole problem with trading with Philly (at least until they trade Forsberg, he leaves as a UFA, or retires. They've just got too much against the cap. There have been many times where I've had big name players that they'd love to get their hands on but they can't make a deal under the cap. Good luck in getting Carter as a FA.

No doubt, Horton&Carter tandem will make you a continuous Cup contender, at least. Good luck with'em! Timing is everything! In my game, I got McArdle+3rd rounder for aging Shanny and a few middle round draft picks and left him in AHL for 2 years. The guy's awesome and can play both LW and RW. He won't make you forget Carter&Horton, but his consistency and determination may eventually help him to become next R.Fedotenko or A.Picard.

I think Forsberg is gone, keep in mind I'm in 2008 now. But they're still above the cap. Seems they extended a hell lot of contracts and overpaid on some occasions, Hatcher is getting 3.5m.
Anyway, I have given up on the idea of trading Carter. I have sent Cory Sarich and 2 average prospects to San Jose for 5 (!) draft picks including 3 (!) first rounders.
I then offered Philly Savard plus 3 first rounders in 2009, 1 first rounder 2010 and a couple of 2nd and 3rd rounders, I've added 4-5 good prospects, and I've even included Kapanen and Hatcher and their combined 5.3m contracts (both have been made available), but of no avail.
Oh well I have signed Big Joe from free agency and traded Savard for picks and prospects. I got rid of Axelsson and Asham who were making 3m combined and got Pandolfo and Weinhandl instead for not even half the money.

I'm kind of surprised you're so hot on trading Savard. I found him to be a great point producer for me in my Bruins games.

It wasn't that I necessarily wanted to get rid of him, he's been good for me as well. I just wanted to see if I could get Carter for him. I've just made one offer for Joe and I think it was even less than he demanded, I was quite surprised he agreed, so I had to dump Savard.

Wow. I was actually offered a pretty good trade out of the blue from the Kings.

They offered:
Dustin Brown, Right to Jack Johnson, 1st in 07 and 2nd in 08 for Hannu Toivonen.

Sounds like a very good trade for ya :D Especially if Toivonen isn't an important part of your system.
