I honestly think he'll go where the money is. If MTL is really offering 7+ for 7 years, he'd be nuts not to take it - unless another team he likes better matches or beats the offer.Shadd666 wrote:Question is: does he want the money with Philly or Montreal, or does he want a run at the Cup with Buffalo?
As a Habs fan, I'd be widdled at Bob for spending that kind of money on Briere over that long a term. He's under-sized and he's been playing with an offensively gifted Sabres club. I'm not saying he isn't a good player - he is one of the best playmakers in the league. But look at who the Habs have as coaches - they should not be trying to bring in any more purely offensive players who don't fit in the system. Go after Smyth, or even M******.
My dream scenario: Drury signs at 12:01 pm on Sunday with the Sharkies for 7+ per. I don't care how long. The Sharks then immediately trade MARLEAU to the Habs for oh, let's say Ryder and a top prospect (maybe Halak or Danis? They did just deal Toskala...).
OR
The Habs do none of the above and wait until Lecavalier is UFA and sign him to a Wang style 10 year deal.
Either or.
Also, what does everyone think of the rumour that EDM has traded for Kubina?

Kubina's biggest asset is his agent
I'd really prefer his overblown contract to stay in Toronto.
Some Ottawa press reporting Bruins are one of 3 teams considering an offer sheet for Emery. Not sure if we even hold our own 3rd pick in 2008 currently, regarding the compensation we'd have to pay. Hope it's just the usual end of June media cr*p.

I've heard the talk about the Bruins doing an offer sheet for Emery. I hope it's not true. I wouldn't want to see them lose the whole top half of next year's draft, especially if we end up a lottery pick again. It's just too much to give up for him. If they were willing to part with their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks why didn't they just make the Vokoun deal?
From what I'm reading on another board, the Bruins can't do the Emery offer sheet because we don't own our 3rd rounder in 2008 (you were spot on with that). I've heard that they weren't very interested in Emery as recently as last week. Word is, they're still going after Fernandez. To be honest, I'd rather stick with Tim Thomas and Hannu Toivonen than trade so much away for a goalie that's not much better than Thomas.

Pretty much my opinion as well, don't want Manny or Emery in Boston. Bryz is about the only realistic solution I'd support, he is an upgrade over Thomas and I don't think he's currently on more than 2m p/a.
I'm slightly worried about giving up Murray though, he's really the only winger on our roster who comes close to being a 1 in 2 scorer. Starting goalie and puck moving no. 2 on the blueline are bigger concerns than offense at the moment but giving up Muzz automatically turns the offense into our biggest issue.

Yeah, I'm not too keen to see Murray go unless it's for another goal scoring winger... and I just can't see that happening. Murray had injuries last year. In a normal year he's good for at least 30 goals. When he was out at the end of last season, the Bruins struggled and couldn't find someone to score in his absence.
I just read that everyone's favorite rumor-monger
Eklund is saying that the Oilers are trying to land Murray. If so, I'd want Lupul in return. Maybe see if we can get Torres out of them too.

Alright...lets get it out there. For the one millionth time the Vancuover Canucks are rumoured to be interested in signing UFA center Peter Forsberg. Yeah right, and next someone will say Ryan Smyth is on his way to Vancouver too. Right....Oh wait, that did happen...in one sentence on HF boards. Idjits
Oh...rumour du jour M****** to Montreal for Ryder, Markov, Higgins, a 1st and Koivu...
CatchUP--You said the full name of that guy you dream about. Does your girlfriend know?..>BANNED!!

That M****** to Montreal deal is ridiculous! The reason the Sharks are supposedly shopping M****** is because they want to free up salary to sign Drury. I'm thinking that taking on all those players is going to add up to the same salary or more. That's just stupid.
I read a story on Spector's site with a quote from the Nucks GM saying that they had no plans to make a big UFA splash. He said they might make a couple of minor signings. They just don't have the cap space to do more. There were about 4 more quote with other GMs saying the same thing about their teams. Apparently, the Penguins are planning on staying near the salary floor.
I've heard lots of the Bruins unloading Muzz talk. You're right, Danny. It's not very smart to unload Muzz when the team is having trouble scoring. I don't think they'll be able to get a scorer back to make up for his goals. Plus, his $4M doesn't look so bad in the current marketplace. Who knows what they'll do though. Sometimes I wonder what the heck Chia is thinking.

Well it's not official yet, for some reason, but yeah looks pretty much done.
On TSN as well
"It looks as though the Boston Bruins have acquired a new goaltender.
According to the Pioneer Press, the Minnesota Wild have traded Manny Fernandez to the Bruins for forward Petr Kalus and a future fourth-round draft pick."

Yeah, I'm seeing it around now too. I still don't like it. Fernandez's reputation for being a headcase worries me. There are bound to be serious bumps in the road with this team. Is he going to start throwing fits at the first sign of the team struggling?
Oh, St Louis has re-signed Tkachuk.

The Bruins have been looking for a goaltender the whole offseason. They were determined not to have Tim Thomas as their starting goaltender this season and I don't think they have much confidence in Toivonen. Look for either Thomas or Toivonen to be traded soon. Fernandez is just a stop-gap until they feel Rask is ready.Shadd666 wrote:Would be a bad move for the Bs...With Thomas and Toivonen, they don't need Fernandez at all, so it's a bit stupid to loose Kalus (+ a 4th round pick) for something they don't need
I still don't like that they gave up Kalus though.
