Don't worry about that ;) In fact, we actually do only the NHL because it would be a too huge project update all the leagues of the game at the same time. NHL is the most played league, so concentrate on this one.

However, anyone wanting to help and make updates for the other leagues is welcome! :thup:

Anyway, welcome to TBL =D>

You don't at all! It would be great if we could update all of North American leagues. We have another user (getzlaf15) working on updating the three Canadian Junior Leagues so hopefully he'll follow through with that and that would mean we'd have a total of four leagues done. If you know the AHL, CHL or UHL (if there is a UHL researcher) then if they were interested we'd have the whole of North America done :cool: As you said, the NHL being arguably the most popular league, we should concentrate on that first but there's nothing stopping anyone from compiling trades for other leagues that can later be added onto our update.

If you have the time, I suggest trying to compile the trades, etc. that have taken place in the ECHL since Octobe 2006 until about the end of June 2007. This would save you some time in the future when we would merge your ECHL update with the NHL one. I suggest compiling the trades in the format of extra_config e.g. "FUTURE_TRANSFER" "first name "second name" "current team name" "new team name" date fee wage contract_length etc.). I've done exactly the same for the NHL (upto and including the 30th June 2007).

We haven't finalised the way in which we will release the update. One possible way is to do as much of the trades, draft pick trades, and free agent acquisitions using extra_config and then all of the other trades, etc that can't be done in this file will be done by editing the database (we'll use TBL:DB; the unfaked DB based on the 3.0.4 DB). Thus compiling all of the trades in the format of extra_config could get a lot of the work done. I'll find some time in the next few days to post what I've done so far so you can see how we've gotten started on this project.

The reason for taking a mixed approach (i.e. part of the update being done using extra_config and part by editing the DB) is to reduce the amount we have to edit in the DB as it seems the more editing you do to the DB, the greater the risk of corruption. However, as I said, we haven't decided on this approach for sure; we may do the whole update by editing the DB so as to avoid using extra_config. There's still no rush on this as the first games of the NHL season don't start until the end of September.

roster update

Post by matej »

hi i'm new to the entire making-adjustments-with extra_config.cfg file

I've tried to update the roster with the 2007 free agency signings and have failed miserably.

where exactly in the file do I "future transfer" players. Is it under the # US College commitments 2007/2008 line where i'm noticing all the future transfers to be located, and if so, then could you check my format and advise me if it's correct?

"FUTURE TRANSFER" "Todd" "White" "Minnesota Wild" "Atlanta Thrashers" 2 9 2006 1550000 1

i also have a question about the latter columns
1. is date like 2 9 2006 too early? should i set it to 2007?
2. regarding the salary contract, could i give him his new contract that he has with thrashers worth 9.5 mil over 4 years? in the format
2375000 4?

I also noticed that there is another line "# Player Moves" right above the # US College commitments 2007/2008" is that relevant to anything? could i do some of the trades through that, if so then in what format?

I would appreciate any feedback

,Matej

Hey Matej, Welcome,
Firstly not too sure of the difference between player moves and college commitments, i tried a trade in College commitments and it worked fine and the player transfered okay.

Secondly, it all depends when you want Todd White to be transfered if you want the exact date, then it will be 1 7 2007

and finally, yes you can give him his new contract, or whichever you like.

Looking at that, i see that you have written

"FUTURE TRANSFER" "Todd" "White" "Minnesota Wild" "Atlanta Thrashers" 2 9 2006 1550000 1, this is actually meant to be

"FUTURE_TRANSFER" "Todd" "White" "Minnesota Wild" "Atlanta Thrashers" 1 7 2007 1550000 1
just a minor one but you missed the underscore off.

Hope that helps ya out.

one thing....

how do i know that the player will transfer on that day, shouldn't there be a message in the player's information panel in the "offers" saying something along the lines of " Atlanta Thrashers - transfer arranged for Tuesday July 1 2007?

i followed the correct format for trying to transfer todd white from Minnesota Wild to Atlanta Thrashers

ex : "FUTURE_TRANSFER" "Todd" "White" "Minnesota Wild" "Atlanta Thrashers" 1 7 2007 2375000 4

this whole line under the "US College commitments 2007/2008" section

saved the extra_config.cfg file and started up the new game and checked whether there is a future transfer listed on Todd White's information profile. Nothing.

did i have to include the "fee" value between the date and the salary?

k so i've put in the fee value

"FUTURE_TRANSFER" "Todd" "White" "Minnesota Wild" "Atlanta Thrashers" 1 7 2007 0 2375000 4

and started up a new game and Todd White has now a "Bid" listed to his name on my team roster page, but when i check his profile it doesn't say anything about him having an arranged transfer to Atlanta.

i'll sim up to 1 7 2007 and we'll see what happens...so far it looks promising...i have to apologize but i can barely contain myself right now....this would mean that i can start simming with an up to date roster...which would be ridiculous.

thanx for the advice

Firslty, yes u will need to include the fee, so just add a 0

Also, it doesn't tell you that the player is going to change teams it just happens.

Hope i'm some help :-D

Joe has already explained everything clearly but there's just one thing I'd add: You can add your trades into the file either above or below or even in the middle of the part that has the college commitments trades.

Actually there's also a second thing I'd add: If the player is actually on an affiliate team's roster at the start of the game then you need to put the affiliate team as the "from" team, rather than his contracted NHL team.

Alright, I've compiled some base information, but I'll start on this in earnest on Saturday or Sunday. I'll run both an extra_config file and a Word file that I normally used when we were active HR's. If we have any problems with the extra_config route, I'll at least have an independent transaction log ready to refer to.

I guess the first MAJOR issue we'll eventually have to address regarding the ECHL has to do with where to put players on teams that have either left or joined the ECHL. Long Beach folded, Toledo's out for a year, but Elmira from the UHL has come over and Mississippi has started back up again. We've got a lot of time to come up with a solution to that, but it's something we're going to have to figure out.

Jason - thanks for the link. I think that site will be of great use in filling in the gaps! :thup:

Feel free to upload your team records to our Downloads Section in order to share your work with our community. I'll contact you later if we decide to include a records update too. Thanks for the offer :)

Thanks for your help :thup: I'm not entirely sure how else anyone can help at the moment. If I think of anything I'll let you know :)

A little progress update: I've completed all trades up to and including July 11th 2007. Roughly, my to-do list looks like this:
  • Move players from NHL teams to affiliates where necessary;
  • Make players UFAs that have left their NHL teams and haven't yet been signed by anyone else;
  • Set the correct contracts for everyone;
  • Update affiliations;
  • Add new arenas;
  • GM and Head Coach movements between NHL teams.

I'm not going to promise an exact date at the moment because there is so much still to do (see the list I made in my previous post, above yours). Also, there are other things that need doing on this site and of course I have a real life too! Having said that, things are going well and I have made great progress in little time. When I've gotten more things done then I will be able to estimate when it will be ready.

The final version obviously won't be ready until the end of September or the beginning of October because I plan on updating the rosters up to the first NHL game of the season. I hope, however, to release an earlier summer update at some point before September for those that can't wait that long for updated rosters!

Jason - do as much as you feel you can do :) Perhaps if you listed what you're missing we could help you fill in the blanks.

We're currently making a list of transactions to do for different leagues whilst I do the NHL update. Then when I've finished the NHL update, I can pass it onto the next person to edit in their league's updates (using the list of transactions, etc. that need doing).

Thanks very much for the offer! It'd be great to have a complete North American update for next season. You can start preparing by making a list of trades that have taken place since October 2006. Either one of the TBL Mods or yourself can then use the list to make the changes.
