Yeah, it's Wirtz, just a typo and we can't edit posts in this thread.

I know GMs can't fire owners in the game or RL, but it'd be nice!

Although, I'm not a mean GM, I'd offer him another position within the organization. Public Restroom Janitor has a nice ring to it! :-D

:-D

Trust me, as a Bruins fan, I can relate. I've longed to rid the organization of Jeremy Jacobs for a long time.

Back on topic...

Come on and vote folks! We've still got a tight race. It's mostly a two way race but the other three teams are all within one vote of each other and not that far behind the leaders. Remember, this challenge is planned to take place over a long period of time. Make your vote count towards who you want to play!

My main concern is Coyotes winning this poll, mostly is practically impossible to make them a winning team maybe is mojo stuff going on,

Nope. I wouldn't say it's impossible to make any team in the NHL a winning team. It just takes careful planning and making the right moves. Keep in mind, with the way the new challenge rules are setup we're not expecting people to make these teams into winners right away. It might be a major accomplishment to make the playoffs or maybe to just not finish in the bottom 3 in the league. Everyone will be starting with the same team, so we'll all be in the same boat. The winner of the challenge could be the best of the losers. Plus, this challenge is designed to be played over several seasons while developing your prospects. It's not out of the question to think we can turn a terrible team into a winner in say... 4 years?

[yelling] Yep...That is why we are hoping the Hawks win.[/yelling]

Perfect team to try this new format with. Not much depth...and great prospects.

I dunno why yelling, felt it fit to counter the whining. :-D

that would be the bat'dad' in you coming out. At least, I usually got yelling when I gave whining to my old man. :-o

Really though, I do somewhat agree. The Hawks will be harder than the Cats and that's part of the new fun! =D>

Yeah but the Panthers are a bit of a mess too. No goaltending and their defense isn't that great beyond a couple guys. They've got some great young offensive players though. You'd have to focus on developing defense and goaltending while doing what you can with your offense. It could be interesting.

I'm almost wondering if Chicago has too many good prospects. On top of that, they've got solid (and overpaid) goaltending. I'm not so sure how hard it will be. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The more good prospects, the more merry the homegrown player, and more varied it becomes in that position of the core. It makes things more interesting. Not every GM will have McArdle... :-D

I'm actually thinking with Chicago it will be hard to decide which player to use as your homegrown. Then because of the players' ages there will probably be seasons where you'll have to promote more than one guy who is eligible for homegrown status and then maybe be left hurting the next season. That aspect could be very tricky.

Speaking of the homegrowns... I would suggest people figure out which player is going to be their homegrown at least a season in advance. You're really going to have to plan the development of your players.

Yep. THat is why I like the Hawks for this. Tricky with the players ages being so similar throughout the lineup.

And by rule, you have to figure out who the homegrown is going to be a season in advance. Remember... he has to be on your squad way early.
For the 2007-08 homegrown must be one of the players on the team's reserve list at the start of the game.

For 2008-09 must be on your roster by draft day 2007. So you should at least have the options ready in your head by then. for 2009-10 by draft day 2008. Etc, etc

So you should have 1 or 2 options in your head by the end of draft day the year prior.

Yeah, I know all about the roster requirements for homegrowns. I'm talking about looking at the guys that are on your roster at the start of the game. You really want to look at all the guys that legitimately have a shot at making your roster at some point and decide on the timeline of when you expect them to be ready.

If we do go with Chicago, a big thing for me is going to be restraining myself and keeping guys on the farm even if they might be better than a player on the roster already. It should be interesting!

I know you know! :-D You made the rules! :-D Just expanding on what you said, so others would see the thought pattern.

Chicago makes for very interesting set ups. In both the groups choosing players from, and in the homegrown status of the players. Actually all of the teams listed do, but for different reasons.
