You're talking about "Knock Out". IIRC, it was Mike Tyson's Knock Out at one point. I remember he was the guy you fought at the end. I used to love that game... even though I wasn't very good at it. My young cousins had an updated version of the game on PS2 or XBOX a few years ago. It had some new characters and stuff. I still like the simplicity of the controls in the old games better when you only had like 2 buttons and a joystick.batdad wrote:Arcade games bore me. So neither. Likely because I am old....and the only decent arcade games are Defender, Galaga, and that boxing one with "Glass Jow"..what was its name?
I was really young when Defender and Galaga came out. I grew up on Spy Hunter, Ghosts and Goblins, 1941 (or was it 1942?), and Space Harrier. I can't tell you how many quarters I wasted pumping them into the machines at the arcade when I was a kid. Do you remember the name of the hockey game they had at the arcade? Was it Blades of Steel?
Back to hockey games though... remember the old EA Hockey on the Sega Genesis? We used to have huge tournaments in my dorm with that. I used to get some of the guys so mad because I could just score on them at will by crashing the net. Ah, the good old days!

It's exactly the other way round. At least since 2k5.Joe wrote:I haven't played EA since pro the '04 game, which I loved. I always thought that EA was more realistic, while 2k was arcade style which I hated. But I don't even have a console anymore, its just EHM for me.
EA's 07 vesion, while having the amazing skillstick, has a completely rubbish AI that pretty much kills the whole fun once the novelty of the skillstick feature wears off, and it does after a while. For me it was 3 weeks. The fact that you can perform Crosby-like moves with PJ Axelsson and Niiniimaa behaves like Niedermayer on defence isn't exactly realistic. I prefer controlling my players the conventional way anyway.
Now as for 2k7, this game has just sooo many different sliders that you're busy adjusting all of them to create a realistic gameplay forever, plus the presentation is pretty poor. It can't be that hard to have a nice intro in a so called next gen game. Furthermore 2k7 on the Xbox360 is pretty much the same as 2k6, apart from the HD graphics. The rest is exactly the same, even the bug when a goalie occasionally would just leave the net and wander along the boards up to the red line is still in. It's rare, hence it doesn't really irk me as such, it's just the fact that they didn't even bother to remove obvious bugs, which shows how much they care about the customers.
What I'm trying to say is while Football (soccer) fans have Pro Evolution soccer, Basketball fans have NBA 2k the Hockey fans are left without a really good game, except EHM. Both EA and 2k need to take a huuuge step forward if they want their Hockey games to be anywhere near the aforementioned other sports games. Oh, and EA's NHL always looks great, good on the outside rubbish on the inside. Gameplay matters, for all I care even with PS2 graphics.

I have NHL 07 for the XBOX 360 and I think it is a very good game really, I have not got NHL 2K7 but I am tempted to maybe buy it for the PS3 as it is only £25 in HMV, I bought NBA 2K7 for the ps3 and it is a good game actually, plays really well. I also have Madden for the Wii and I think the way it interacts with the Wii is superb.
