Good question on that one... The deal is done during the season, but completed only in the following one...

Batdad?... Bruins?... Calv?... Where are you? :p

batdad said in the other thread:

"A season is from Jul 1 to Jun 30. When contracts expire, a new season begins for our purposes."

The transfer window opens on June 7th. So if you sign him in October 06 and he joins you in June 07 he, according to the rules, should count to the 2006-2007 season.

Ok...so later today I will have my core guys up. I kind of like my team.

I will also start my blog either late tonight, or tomorrow morning.

Interesting happenings in Chicago.

The big trade I mentioned above....not the only one. :-D And I never make big moves. Weird.

I have Coyotes, Sabres, Senators, Canucks, Hawks, and Blues in this franchise. No Sharks, no Flyers, no Capitals....

Not at all the norm...cept for the Sabre part.. but even then, not guys I like to use.

so far I'm trying to move Khabi and get some value back. I've got a trade going with the Capitols for Zednik and a 1st so far and the Ducks for Neids but I had to add Kukkonen.

Niedermayer is worth more than Zednik, Kukkonen and a first :)
Then again, you don't get to dump any salary.

I also am trying to play with it to see if I can throw in Handzus or another moveable piece for penner or maybe getzlaf.

I ended up going with the Neids trade and will be looking to deal Aucoin to see if it clears some room salarywise.

Hey everyone-

I'm finally at Sept. 15th and I'm trying to decide on what I want my team to look like. Part of me wants to go with speed and part of my wants to go with strength and aggression. I don't like having one speed line and one tough line. I would rather have all one way or another.

I'll keep you posted-

timmy_t: bah, have them all strong, fast, and aggressive, it will avoid you a tough choice! :p

Personnally, i just had a quick look at the team, also controlling the Admirals, fired some staff members on both teams and offered contracts to fill the free staff spots. I'm still stunk on August 2nd though, and didn't have a close look on the players yet. Tomorrow night, if i have time enough, or more likely wednesday.

For the deadline of the challenge (september 15th if i remember well), is it to end the games 1-20 period or is it to end the whole first season? Just to know if i'll have a life outside EHM during the upcoming weeks :D

Nah..you don't. What with moderating, playing the games, doing your stats, doing the blog...you gots no time baby! EHM ALL THE TIME!!

Anyway, looking at the roster thread...I really like that so many people have different takes on what to do with this. Just about each and every player has been chosen. The only ones who have not: (Barker, who maybe should have been in C, not B...ah well we all learn), Bochenski, Bolland.

Pretty cool I must say. And I betcha Barker/Bolland get to be homegrown guys alot in year 2.

My things will be up later today...I think...

yeah the reason I did not pick Barker is because I plan to give him a year in the AHL and then bring him up for the homegrown. I have Blunden and Bolland as backups in case things don't go as I would like. I also pulled off a trade and was very surprised they accepted it since I was just throwing stuff out there to see what I could get, and did not expect this kind of return. Aucoin for Morrisonn and 1st.

By 'having a life', i meant, doing other things that playing the game :D I bet i'll even have some time for some Dungeons & Dragons games with friends :p

Back on topic, it's nice to see those different approaches... And nice to see many players having their hands on the challenge!

I think i'm gonna be one of the last challengers in season one, as (at first sight) i plan to make some clean up and build a solid core from within. There are already many good prospects, but maybe the rebuilding process needs a final touch of young talents... Don't know yet what i'll do, but that should be an option...

Nah...I may be awhile. Away this weekend, next weekend, and then the week after that. So...what I Don't get to now will have to wait to September, but I will meet the 20 games, and then go from there.

Ok I know our free agents don't count towards the 2 free agents, but what about our unsigned prospects. I would assume they would not go under it, but I don't want to assume and be wrong.

Unsigned prospects are fine to sign. THey are not UFA's. They are RFA's to the NHL team they belong to.

However, be careful...if I recall correctly you had Boucher and Lalime in your core? That was you right? If so, make sure they get their minutes, and that you do not trade either of them away.

The goalie position is just sooooo sensitive and fickle in EHM, I was surprised to see some people naming Lalime or Boucher, or even both, in their core.
One bad winger/center probably won't do much harm to a good team, an average goalie and you're screwed.
I had Crawford in the farm team, he started the season 1-6 with a whopping 5.5 GAA, I felt sorry for them :p so I got them Shantz from Florida's affiliate and the team went on a winning streak right away, not giving up more than 3 goals per game.

I waived caron and no one picked him up so I could use on farm team. He has been spectacular in the AHL. So far tandem is doing decent in the NHL Boucher is obviously the weaker of the 2. I went with both because I didn't trust either with the load so I figured if I'm going to use them in tandem might as well put both in core.
