haven't the foggiest, hey an idea for a game thingy octavian, just before the season starts you should make a prediction game or post, in this section

basically say 10 + predictions for people to make and everyone can put answers in the post to the questions and we can see at end of season who wins, questions such as

Presidents trophy winner
1st west
1st east
8 playoff teams west
8 playoff teams east
all the awards who will win??
how many pts will crosby get?
how many pts will ovechkin get?

say points more for btr prediction, i.e if someone gets stanley cup winner right 50pts, presidents trophy 30pts, for every playoff team correct 15pts, for every player award 20pts, etc
etc, etc,

this is different to TBL, where its game result predictions

Sounds good, although it's a bit long term don't ya think?

Maybe we should have player of the month predictions? Who scores and how many points on October, then November etc, not the whole season.

I like the idea... should make this one it's own topic though, this is the Hockey Quiz, yeah baby! :)

While we're on goalie questions, who was the first (NHL) goalie to get credited with a goal?

Hmmm. I think Marty Brodeur was the first goalie to score a goal. But i don't know if he was the first to do so in the playoffs or regular season :-?.....and a month later another goalie scored...but i don't remember his name...think it was a montreal goalie.... #-o

Billy Smith of the New York Islanders was the first to be credited a goal, November 28th 1979.

EDIT: Brodeur has two goals, as does Ron Hextall

True but in his case a player on the Colorado Rockies put the puck into his own net during a delayed penalty call -- no goalie to stop the puck and since Smith had been the last Islander to touch the puck, so under NHL rules he was credited with the goal.

However the first goalie to score a goal by himself was 10 years later, when Ron Hextall actually fired the puck the length of the ice to score a goal.

The other 3 goalies to score to my knowledge are Martin Brodeur, Chris Osgood, and Jose Theodore.

You, as you knew the first goalie to score for real (I only knew Smith as he was credited with the goal). And to get the quiz going again

I haven't made a guess because for some reason I want to say Gordie Howe, but I have confidencein that answer... this one is jumbled up in my head with the related debate about who used/created the first curved stick... :-?

yes, and (even if it's logical consequence) the fastest two hattricks (21 and 44 seconds) go along with the fastest three assists ;)

but rubbinio is right, got on!
