Another weird question. Core players must be kept all season long before being traded/released/whatever. But must we keep them until July 1st (EHM start of the new season) or should we deal them away as soon as the playoffs end? (ie being able to deal them away for picks before the draft)

Sounded like evidence, but it's better to make it clear

If he was an LY in season 4...he would be eligible for you core. you can drop the others from your core and have Barker in...I am of course assuming he was core in season 4(LY) and that Staal was your homegrown in season 4.
Anyway...he would still be group C...next step up the scale for games played.

Why would you want to make a player a group B? That means you have make sure he plays more games. All players that are brought into your core, after being a homegrown, start out as a C player. There is one season between being a homegrown and a core player that a player must spend as a LY (meaning last year's homegrown).

Why would I? Maybe I think he's ready for it? Actually it is easier to get enough games for a D-man than for some depth winger like Holmqvist. So I thought I'd promote Barker to core B and then there is three category C spots to fill (in year 3). Because if there is a LY player who is ready to play 60+ games and will do it anyway, why wouldn't I take the advantage and use him as category B player?bruins72 wrote:Why would you want to make a player a group B? I think you're a bit confused. You don't have requirements for the different categories after the first season. For example, in season two, you must have 7 players in your core plus a homegrown. It doesn't matter how many of those 7 core players are A's, B's or C's. You just have to make sure that 7 out of your original core of 10 are in your new core. After the first season, the only purpose for the categories is the number of games they're required to play.
Personally, if I have a player on my team, chance are he's going to play every game that he isn't injured.

In Season 3 I must have five players from the original core plus two homegrowns (LY+HG). The LY goes automatically to category C which means he has to play at least 55 games. In the same time I got someone (let's call him Holmqvist), who has to be in my core, because I have traded some others away. Now if I know (or at least I think I know), that my LY (Barker) is going to play at least 60 games in this season and Holmqvist is the 13th offenseman and isn't gonna play in every game or so, wouldn't it be wise to put Barker into category B and Holmqvist into category C so that Holmqvist would easier get the required games played?
I understand I don't have to care about how many A's or C's come from one season to another, but I have to decide, who is in which category before the new season begins.

Holmqvust is always category C...never changes. Just he is third year or 4th year category C...goes up each year.
Unfortunately, if you do not think he will make the games, but you have noone else you can keep in your core, it is trouble...because he needs to make his games. Holmqvist must play his games...55. Unless there is injury. barker must play 55 as he is coming off LY. Just the way it is. Cannot change the category of guys. if they were A to begin with, they are A all the way through. Same with B, same with C.
HG--Ly--C-C-C-C-C-C (cannot move him to B...don't see why you would want to)
A-a-a-a-a-a-a-a
b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b
c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c
Guys cannot go in and out of categories a,b,c..they must remain and the games played requirements go up each season as you noticed.
After they reach requirement they can sit on the bench forever...play the first 55 bench him the rest of the season..but keep him on your roster.
Holmqvist is listed as Group C and therefore remains Group C all the way through. Arkhipov is group B and remains on group B schedule all the way through. havlat is A and remains A...cannot change their group.
The challenge player does not decide the groups..the lists at the beginning provide the groups. They do not change. You just decide which players you are keeping as your core players..the group they are in is irrelevant...and never changes. You can't move the players between groups.
Just with each year, the games played requirement increases, and this is unique to each group for development and flexibility purposes.

Now you said it the way even a slower guy like me understands it! I was thinking there is a certain amount of A's, B's and C's every year in the roster and that I have to figure it out how I fill those spots. This makes the whole thing much easier (that may be the reason why I didn't understand it at all first - I expect the new rules to be as complicated as possiblebatdad wrote: Guys cannot go in and out of categories a,b,c..they must remain and the games played requirements go up each season as you noticed.

I got a little question of the next deadline too. Does it mean that we have to have our playoffs played too by 26th Oct? Because if it does, I'm in trouble, at least if I happen to win any PO games...

I can't say it for sure, but it seems that the next deadline includes all playoff games too
I'm no longer in trouble as i've just been eliminated (), but i initially thought too that just 1 week to go from game 60 to game 82 + playoffs is a bit short...
It means 22 games + playoffs games (20-25 for those who go far) + having a life, all of that in just 7 days...
Calv, would it be possible to delay the deadline by one more week? Playing 45-50 games in just 1 week means no life at all, while it's easier to do in 2 weeks
Plus, for those who are blogging their challenge, it's hardcore to play the games AND blog before the deadline... I've just finished my games, but now have 4 updates to make in the blog, while it's better to globally blog as you play...

Ok, just trying to make sure I'm reading the rule correctly regarding the draft picks. Here is the situation. I trade Bob to team x for a 2nd round pick. I would like to trade Team X's 2nd round pick as part of a package to pick up Joe. Is team x's 2nd round pick also protected because I control it or only the picks that started out in my possession.

Any idea when you expect the next challenge to start? I would really like to give the challenge a try, but it's obviously too late to start the Hawks challenge now. My suggestion for a challenge team would be the Thrashers. They are very top heavy, and most people would obviously keep Kovalchuk, Hossa and Lehtonen, but it would be won or lost on how well you can build defense and secondary scoring around the studs on a very tight budget.
