In almost every game I've started, I always have the problem of resigning my best scouts, as in most cases they want more money than my board is willing to pay them (even if I try to "fill up" the salary through the signing bonus). How do you guys make sure you keep your top scouts?
BTW, I don't have this problem with the other staff, e.g. AGM, head coach and coaches ... somehow, there always seems to be enough money left for them.
Just terminate their contract and hire them again at once, that way they may demand a bit more wage, but the board allows for higher salary so problem solved. Not sure why it is like that, but normally that method solves it.
Other way is to play in Denmark, and you can be sure you'll never be able to sign a scout, so you won't have to worry to resign them I found only one guy who accepted to scout for me, but he has 5 in judging ability and 3 in judging potential...just enough to scout next opposition! lol At least, i won the championship.
True.. I just filter for trainers with a 20 in Physical Therapy then sort by determination then bring in one guy who has high woring wiith youngsters and one that has a high adaptability, just for fun
I am in my third season with CBJ and one scout, who has been sitting on his arse for two years, wants 1.05M for a three year contract, I can only give him 250K/year so I gave him 500k in signing bonus, he gladly... refused it!
Heh. I also find it strange how tough it is for NHL teams to hire Scandinavian or Russian scouts. Most of them don't want to sign with a team in North America... well, what if my plans are to make them my regional scout in their home region/nation?

Yeah, that's a strange thing. With me it's mostly Russians and Swedes, funnily haven't experienced this with Finnish scouts so far.
One tip with scouts that works well, especially if you are taking over a team like the Capitals that is loaded with great scouts is immediately offer contract extensions to the maximum 10 years for any scouts (and trainers, coaches, etc) that you want to keep. They will generally accept extensions at or very close to their current salary if you do it right at the start of the game. Also, when signing a scout, or any staff member that you really want for that matter, I always give them a 10 year contract. It both prevents the issue of their demands escalating when it comes resigning time and saves the hassle of having to negotiate their contracts again in a few years.
One thing i noticed is that if you are on vacation over januari and februari, the scouts sings extensions.
Maybe they like the board/ass gm better than me.. but i always have problems resigning scouts, but when i´m on vacation over that period they are always reassinged.
I find that right after you sign a scout, you can offer them a new contract for about the same as you initially offered, but more years (I usually offer top heavy deals, where the first few years pay more, and the rest play less) and they will accept more often than not.
