Couldn't agree more. I knew this was going to be harder than an NHL challenge. I'll be greatly surprised if anyone wins the Kelly cup in year 1.
My advice to everyone is to get a full compliment of pro scouts (Judgement >85, Judging Potential isn't as important, but the higher the better) and keep them working constanly. Especially the American college leagues, but also Canadian juniors. Keep a close watch on their 19-21 year olds as they may be released at any time. While these guys may never make the NHL, some of them can tear up the ECHL. Plus they sign on the cheap for the most part.
In my Columbus game, Medicine Hat released goalie Matt Keetley. I signed him to an AHL contract for less than ten grand and sent him to Dayton where he went something like 32-2-1. Granted he had a great defense in front of him, but he would have lead them to a Kelly cup if he hadn't signed with the Flames after the 1st round of the playoffs.

Yeah I took a few overagers from the CHL and signed them to my team. Has anyone else started the season yet? I finished the pre-season at 3-1-1.
And also, what ranking did you get in the ECHL season preview? 19 here.

I was ranked 13th! But I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I pulled Ryan Garlock and Alex Demers from their junior squads as my 1-2 centers. Which probably means I'm going to have a great start to the season and then struggle after they get picked up by AHL or NHL teams.
I nuclear-bombed the team. Over half of the default roster has been released after training camp. I have only made 1 trade and it was a 1-for-1 and mostly a salary-dump, but it did help fill in the right defense hole. I'm still waiting to see if a couple of FAs will sign. I only have 17 players on the roster & 1 is hurt. I will most likely only carry 19 throughout the season to leave room for any potential loans or released players.
I am 4-0 in the pre-season, but one of those games was against a weak Kokudo (Japan) team that I always schedule an exhibit with. I've got 1 more PS game left to play and about 2 weeks for the season to begin.
Kudos to joehelmer for getting through set 1 so fast! When you posted those stats, I hadn't even hit training camp
I had to seriously slash and burn the roster. load 'deadwood' on it. so far so first three games all victories. I also picked up one training camp walk on who was better then some of my starters. I think mental attitude is very important. Since all my players prettymuch suck, at least i would rather have a sucky player who is determined to win, then a sucky player with a bad attitude.
Yeah I have a mostly different roster, I still need to make some changes, luckily my goaltending has been pretty good. I kept Fields and signed overager Kevin Beech as a backup.

The same as I had until Fields got signed by a NHL team, I've forgot which of them. But they're thiefs!
No, I'm trying to find a new starter/backup for Beech. I almost had one from college but he signed with another ECHL team. fool!
And my team has started to lose again, it began after that Kinasewich left.

Not sure what you are asking? If you are refering to the Challenge Stat Calculator sheet, all you do with it is enter your stats on the Recording page and then copy/paste the appropriate segments stats from the Season 1 totals sheet. It does all the calculating for you.
In case anyone didn't notice, there is now an "Official Unofficial ECHL Challenge Stats" thread. It is stickied in this forum. Post your segment stats there. Thanks Calv!
I rarely use that filter (on players or staff) as it tends to filter out viable players and staff at any level. Your team may not be their first choice, but it doesn't mean they won't sign with you.
The deadline for the first segment is past. We have 4 players who posted stats. Hopefully everyone follows through. Stats for games 21-40 are due by February 10, 2008 by 11:59 pm EST.
Great to see you post your stats, joehelmer. I was beginning to think that I was the only one doing this. Although I must say that GM'ing in the ECHL keeps you on your toes. I've now lost my top two scoreres (Garlock & Kinasewich) to NHL contracts and the Islanders even poached one of my coaches. I've been going through tryout players like crazy. I've found one that is doing great but the board is being stingy with the contract money. I've signed two more overagers for cheap just to keep the roster filled. The one is going good at almost a point-per-game, but the other broke an ankle and not expected back until the end of the season.

whoa i better get a move on..i was taking a break from EMH2007 ..so i better start playing to get to game 40
another question...are points going to be award the same as the regular challenge??
I played games 21-72 last night, went to bed at 3 am, up at 9 am today to do homework.
I just finished my homework for tomorrow after 5 straight bent over a history book.
Will see if there's any idea to start next maybe gonna wait for you guys.
My top assister was signed by a NHL team at the end of the season, so I had a hard time, so it was nice to see the overaged juniors take the step and become top players in my team.
I also noticed that I have spelled Herauf wrong since 1-20, it should be with a F not an X as I've spelled it.

Yes. I'm entering all the stats into a speadsheet app and using it to keep score. But before I post the final scores for season 1 I'm going to have it reviewed to make sure I did it right.
