...Wow. Didn't see that coming. I...think I'm happy. From all the supposed offered players from other teams, I didn't think the Thrashers were going to get much in return, so if Hoss had to go....

...But now I can't say Dupuis' name anymore... *sighs* A sad, sad day.

Major overpayment! I'd even be a bit hesitant to make this deal with Hossa re-signed. I guess the Pens are serious about trying to make a good Stanley Cup run this year. Long-term, it's a bad idea.

Here's to the Bruins signing Hossa this summer!

I'm reading reports now that Brad Stuart went to the Red Wings. No idea what the return was. I wonder what Brad Stuart's wife has to say about this?

I'm still holding out hope that Hossa might be convinced to sign with the Bruins. Hopefully Chara and Chia will wear him down and convince him to join the team.

1 year deal for Mr Hossa. Will be fine. No way they pay that much without *knowing* they have a VERY good chance to sign him.

indeed, the pens have a little cap room to play with in the short term, but the long term is bleak with such good young players all gonna be wantin big contracts soon, Malkin up next year and so is Fleury and Staal.

But as for short term, they've dumper Armstrongs 1.2 million a year and Christiansens 750k.

The grapevine says Hoaas is looking for 8-9 million per yesr. If Crosby is only making 8.7 next year and Malkin due a new deal in 2 years, if the Pens signed Hossafor lets say 8 million,. youd have a Tampa Bay 2 situation with too much salary on too few players.

Kids like Malone would have to be resigned as well...

Its was an overpayed rental without question.

The amusing thing is, when the Hossa trade happened, about half the comments on the Thrashers board said they thought the trade was stupid, and nearly all of the comments on the main Thrashers' blog said it was stupid. Since then, it's mostly shifted, but my prediction that a lot of people would still find reasons to blast the trade proved true.

Is Montoya still expected to be a starting goalie? I know there were high expectations for him when he was drafted. If so, Phoenix may have their goalie to build around. This could've been a very smart move for them.

What's up with the Rangers getting Christian Backman for a 4th? I thought he was better than that. I don't pay much attention to the West. What's the deal there?

Montreal trading Huet for a 2nd makes no sense either, unless he wanted out of montreal do they really think Price can do the job yet?

Huet is an UFA. They got something rather than nothing.

Huet this year hasnt played well when crunch time has come on any consistant basis. In fact in his 3 years here his only playoff appearance saw him play poorly when the Habs were up 2 games to 0 in the first round.

Its my opinion, and as a fan of the Habs, that alot of people expect a run this year by the team, but really the gola is to maske playogffs then mission accomplished. this is a good young team.

Price is as good as Huet right now, if not better and if not yet better he will be with every game. Price winning Juniors and as a rookie winning Calder Cup in AHL shows an upward movement tlaent wise. Halak was the top goalie last year in AHL. The team has 2 solid young goalies now. Look at the other kids in the line up now that WERENT there at seasons start but have been worked in like S Kot, Lapierre, and O'Byrne and the next logical step would be to give Price the reigns.

Price (And Halak) will gain great experience in what happens this season. Its all gravy, so next year, when a better result is expected as the core of the team gets better, Price will have this drive to clinch and hopefully playoff expereince under his belt where as with Huet still here, hed only have a limited experience with this. I have attended around a dozen games this year and seem Huet and Price play in person. Price is at least as good as Huet. Huet had more experience but was leaving this summer without compensation regardless.

Again, Im biased to adegree as a Habs fan. But Im a realist who doesnt think every single year my team will win the cup regardless of how bad they really are! *cough* MAPLE LEAFS FANS *cough*

Well Sbufkle, but u sure will agree that its still a very risky move by Gainey...at least IMHO.

I have to say that I never liked Huet very much (and not only because Iam a B's fan) and I thought he would be a "one year wonder" player but he proved me wrong. I saw him play in Switzerland when he played there and I think he improved a lot in the NHL and he isnt very old so he can improve even more probably. I sure think the Habs could have landed a better deal for an All-Star goalie than a second round.
Whats the general feeling over in Montrèal?? Is the people over there happy with the trade??

Well, Price scaries me a lot and also Halak seems to be a valid goalie for the NHL, but the big question is: are they really ready for the pressure?? I mean, the Habs are a contender right now...can this two young goalies really carry them far in the playoffs??

I guess Gainey thinks so!!

But I still believe that the Huet deal was only the first part of a deal who would have brought Hossa and Hedberg to Montrèal....dont know, but it sure was an option and it looked like that only three minutes before trade-deadline, right?? lol

Never mind.

Also, not a single deal by the Bruins!!!

Chiarelli sure has faith in the team...but I still would have liked a dmen or a sniper...well, never mind.

Mr.Manager has said he has faith in team, and think that there is good chemistry. That's why didn't make any moves.

Ottawa did, acquiring forward Martin Lapointe from the Chicago Blackhawks for a sixth-round draft pick. Lapointe has three goals this season — or three more than what the Senators have over their last two games.

Yeps, I guess Chia has faith in the team and that is good like that...but still, seeing that the team really needs somebody who can put the puck into the net I was a little bit surprised.

Well, the team is really doing good lately (well, really the whole season) and I like that we have a lot of young players in the team. And looking at the AHL, the Baby Bruins are really outplaying everybody down there so it seems we have a bright future!!!

LOL, yeps it surely seems that Sens have problems right now, but Iam sure they will come back!!

There was a divide between those (particularly in the media) who choose to side with Huet or Price all year. Now theres no choice!! lol! everyone agreed Price had to get the nod, it was just when... and since training camp, the bets were from then to training camp next year... we now know the answer!

Actually most fans were more upset about not getting Hossa, but when they heard Gainey at the press conference at 5:30 pm yesterday say what the cost was (3 players currently with Habs plus an AHLer) fans then seemed to agree they coudlnt mortgage the future for a rental.

Its a risk to trade Huet, but only a risk for this season, a season which really, were ahead of schedule in the rebuilding process anyway IMHO!
