Regen location thread. Ask all regen questions here
I'm a little over half way done the season in 09-10 and im trying to find Mike Modano regen but I'm unsure how to find it.
Modano retired from my Stars franchise in July, 2009.
Also, im having trouble finding regens, so any help on that would be appreciated.
I know there is a regen location thread somewhere, I cannot find it, so I am now dubbing this the be all and end all of REGEN question threads. batdad

Information tab. If there is a number there...regen. If not...no regen
Regen attributes that are consistent with original player.
1. Country of birth
2. shooting hand
3. position
4. flair
5. determination
6. bravery (I believe)
7. Adult height and weight (I believe).
May be some others too, but those are the general ideas.
Please list others.

Good question. I would assume (yes, I know what happens when you assume) that the regen would be created from the player that was created randomly. I don't think it creates a new random player. I think the initial random player gets created to fill out leagues but when that player retires, a new player is created based off of him. Like I said though... I'm just figuring that's how it would work by my logic.

There's a Canadian regen in my current game who's 13 years old, just to note.batdad wrote:2 for Euros I believe. They come as 16 year olds. 4 for North Americans I believe (At least Canada) they come as 14 year olds.
As well, not sure if Determination is fixed, as an earlier post on regens in another thread noted a Hasek regen with 16 determination.

It has to do with the CHL draft eligibility. Since 15 year olds can play in the WHL, regens from Western Canada (and the protected areas in the US) can be as young as 13 when they appear.LightRocket wrote:There's a Canadian regen in my current game who's 13 years old, just to note.batdad wrote:2 for Euros I believe. Posting this here, since it fits the topic.
I wanted to see more about this, so I collected screenshots of some of the easiest players to identify. Hasek and Joseph, who are the only two NHL-or-close acrobatic goalies I've seen, Dunham and Auld, who are the only Stand-Up goalies around the NHL level I could find, and Huet, Gerber, and Kolzig, since they all come from rare countries, France, Switzerland, and Germany/South Africa.
Granted, this assumes that goaltender style is fixed, but since several posts in the Hasek regen thread mention him being acrobatic, I'm assuming people would be confused if none of the very small handful of Czech goalies popping up when his regen should pop up were Acrobatic style.
Using this method, and simming forward a good bit in one of my saves, I've tried to locate them all. Auld would probably have just retired recently, so I haven't tried him yet, but, besides him I've located with relative certainty everyone but Huet. I'm not exactly sure why. There was a batch of French goalies that popped up about the same time, and one had Starting/Backup potential, but after simming forward 4 more years to let him grow enough to check his height and weight, he disappeared.
This is what I've seen so far. Height, weight, and catching hand seem to match, although all the goalies tested were Left-handed, so. Mental stats often seem to be close, although they don't actually match most of the time. Stats seem to try to follow the general stats of the person being regened.
For instance, the Hasek regen has great goalie stats overall, but a yellow positioning stat and passing/stickhandling around 10.
Joseph's goalie stats, aside from reflexes, are all within 1 stat of the supposed regen.
Also noteworthy is in all cases except Hasek (because his regen is 20-20 in them), the goalie's higher stat between blocker and glove is also the regen's higher stat.
Differences (By this, I mean large differences) encountered most are in Determination, Work Rate, Influence, Reflexes, and in the physical stats.
One interesting thing to note is that it doesn't seem to be Place of Birth, but Nationality. Kolzig, who was born in South Africa, but whose main nationality is German, came out as born in Germany, and his only nationality is German.
Originally I was planning to sim through several times, but now I'm debating how/if to test further, as simming this far took a while, even with everything set to quick sim and all leagues on Standard. At the very least, I'll probably nab some screenshots of other players with rare-ish nationalities/positions and check them too.
I'm also curious if default Natural side and default positions (Such as those players like Blake who start out playing all forward positions well) are carried over, but checking these things would be a bit harder.
