TBL Challenge 1.1 & 1.2: Washington Capitals Chat Thread

Post by Minstrel »

This is a place where you can jabber about the Washington Capitals Challenge.

This is a good place to post roster moves, give team reports, brag or plead for mercy, etc.

:yadda:

Considering we are taking on the Caps pay particular attention to the Setup rules; you can push back your game's starting date. In this case it will give Challenge teams enough time to sign Ovechkin and have him play this year. I tested it out earlier. :-D

Started last night and my first order of bussines was to trade the over paid Olly the Goalie to Boston for Raycroft. And also bring in Rayn Miller from Buffalo. as well as some blue line help in Scot Stevens and in attack Peca and Madden. And yes I signed Ovechkin as well.

i have made some shrewd signings and have played 7 Pre-season games so far and have signed Michael Ryder, Jim Dowd, Peter Bondra, Tuomo Ruutu, Dan LACoutoure, and some other youngsters both NA and European

Preseason so far, a Tie against Dallas 4-4, a 4-3 win over the wild, and in a 5game tour of Iceland i have a combined score of 79-0.

I'm just about to start training camp and my first two lines are totally revamped, hope all the changes I made were worth it.

I am going to fire my game up later today though I tend to always do very average at these, they're still a lot of fun though :-)

Just to let you guys know, especially those of you who haven't seen the GLR site in action, that I've recorded Davey's Games 1-20 stats. To view the current stats go to the GLR site:

http://www.gaming.leaguerepublic.com/ge ... ue=4861622

Click on 'Team TBL' in the 'League Table' and you will see everyone's stats in the 'Stats' section at the bottom portion of the page. The results/fixtures part is just us working around their system for our own purposes. :nerd: As I mentioned, percentages are typed out so 80.5% = 805

I started my Challenge tonight. I haven't gotten too far, though - I'm just about to do the waiver draft.

I've brought in an Assistant GM to give me a second opinion about who's hot and who's not. I've also brought in a couple of coaches to help out with team practice.

They seem to have a real weakness at LW so that's where I'm looking to bring someone in. I'm looking for an enforcer so I can get the bonus points for PIM. I tried Worrell but he went to the Panthers instead

I'm not really a fan of Kolzig so hopefully I can bring someone else in here. Imho Rubbinio made a good move getting Raycroft in. I tried signing him as an RFA but he chose to stay with the Bruins instead.

There's rumours that Bergeron may be leaving the club so I'm thinking about making a move for him. Lol does anyone else see a pattern emerging here?! It's just going to end up being a Bruins team - in which case I'll finish bottom of the Challenge :D

Oh, and of course I've sign Ovechkin.

Don't mean to bust your bubble Arch but acccording to the rules were supposed to use the 2.1.1 version (aka as NA update) and there no wavier draft in that one. Hope you don't have to start over

I'm running 2.1.1. ;)

darn it! It's the first time I've played the game since running the patch so I'm still getting used to the new rule changes. I forgot there's no waiver draft. I just assumed it was coming up because it was nearly that time of year.

Too bad Friesen isn't on the team. Gonna try to get him.

I've offered contracts to like ten RFA's, including Jeff Carter...

So far I'm 0-3-0
Some major rearranging is required. I need a whole new offensive line. :\

Ovechkin has been playing well, scoring in every game but now he's injured

I've found it way to easy to acquire draft picks with this game. I'm playing ~.500 hockey and I have 2 first round draft picks and 4 or 5 second rounders for this upcoming draft.

Not to mention all my picks remaing for all the future drafts.

My lineup:

Ovechkin - Madden - Semin (I might demote Semin down to 2nd line though, he gets too tired by the end of the game)
Horcoff - Spezza- Hunter (This line donest seem to mesh very well, might make some changes)
Battaglia - Halpern - Zubrus (Doing more or less what I expect them too)
Pettinger - Cassels - Bradely (Lucky if they get 4 shifts a game)

Stevens - Clymer
Eminger - Witt
Doig - Morrisonn (thinking of dumping Doig, hes not playing very well and has been out with 2 small injury's already)

Miller - Daigneault (Ouellet is in minors, he will get the start if Miller is unable to play)

What'd it take you to land Spezza? 8-)

I wanna know too!

Why keep Cassels and his $1.5M salary when he only plays four shifts a game?

I had just sent out trade inquiries to about 25 2nd line centers, didn't really expect him to be available. :-D
I think he may have got a bad roll though, hes not playing very well. :-k

Also about Cassels, as long as hes above 7.00 rating and his +/- isn't too bad, and I'm under board cap I'll keep him. I also find it helps young players develope if you have a few vetrens around.

Hmm... see, that's why people that say 'trading is too hard' just because they can't get the one guy they want are barking up the wrong code; there's always more to the story. Seems that you happened to just have everything line up for ya. Seems it is probably partially the 'never underestimate the value of a quality young goalie' axiom too... nice deal!

Hey in case anyone is interested, I don't like the logo with the Capital Dome as I prefer the bald eagle logo. If you do too feel free to grab the alt logo I made for us 8-) :

Thanks, I thought it was a good deal too, but the board and fans were silent.

I don't know how anyone can complain about trading being too hard, I just stuck everyone I knew I wasn't gonna use on the block and I ended up getting a bucket load of 2nd round picks, which in turn will probably be dealt away trade deadline day.

I have no complaints about my deals so far either :-D

I got Madden for a 4th rounder and I also traded Fehr to the Rangers for a 3rd rounder. Oh, and Henrik Lundqvist :joy:

My Kolzig deal I think should work well since I moved his salary out to Edmonton and got Jason Smith back to anchor my D. At 2 mil per year that's not too bad, given that WAS can use the D. :-)

I'm just about to head into my first preseason games so we'll see what happens ;)

Landing Joni Pitkänen was great, he's now averaging 8.11 playing 32:19 minutes a game.

I'm currently managing the worst team in the whole darn league.

There's not one team that wants to take on Kolzig's fat-ass contract and an unhappy Zubrus.

And Crosby's 7 points ahead of Ovechkin in the rookie scoring race.

This sucks.

I can't help but follow this up with "Really not much you can do about an unhappy Zubrus without a perscription. They've yet to find an effective cure but they can at least keep it from spreading if treated early enough."

Sorry... anyhow! As I mentioned I dealt Kolzig straight up to EDM for Smith... given his contract though you may have to take on someone else's 'problem' contact, but you can certainly do it for cheaper than Kolzig. Pair him with a pick and/or prospect and you could get more action as well.

EDIT: After looking at your stats in comparison you do seem to be lower in goal scoring but not drastically, and it could be partially a symptom of you spending a lot of time killing penalties it would seem... in 20 games you were shorthanded 31 more times than Davey for example. Your PP is lower so it seems so maybe you should set your practice regimine to include more time spent on the PP/PK :dunno:

Otherwise ride it out and see how things go; 20 games is a small sample and we've all got a roster that has undergone a lot of change etc. things should settle down a bit once you figure lines and such. :nerd:
