Prospects playing college hockey
Am I the only one who is frustrated at how poorly prospects who choose to play college hockey develop?
Next time I draft players who have declared them selves for a college I'm going to sign them and trow them directly into the ECHL.

I will answer this here, and move both posts to the Official PRospect thread, which is stickied to the top of this forum. (for those who did not see this post it was in a new thread...no biggie but in the interest of keeping things clean, should be in prospect thread)
Anyway...Yes it is annoying, the coaches in college suck. That is if the college in question actually has any coaches. In my Hawks game in 2012-13, only one of the top NCAA teams has a coach. And it is just one assistant whose coaching ratings for players are G 2, F 1, D3
SO yeah...they suck. I try to get mine out and if they have junior rights get em there. If not, I try to get em to my ECHL team, unless they do real well and then I promote em to AHL.
I think the coaches do not get signed once their contracts expire and/or they move to another team. This is why college guys do not develop in the long run. In the early parts of the game, it is just because the coaches suck.

It's very hard to get players to end up doing well in college. Just as batdad pointed out above, the coaching sucks.
Only way to fix it is to get them out of that situation early and send them down to the juniors if they have rights to go anywhere. If not, then it is best to send them into the CHL, ECHL, or whatever.
If you don't have that option, then toss them onto your AHL team and see how things pan out with that and so forth.
Kind of hard to see youngsters who are 19 and 20 do well in the AHL sometimes. It seems like that is just not the right level for them at that time.

I've got a player in my current game that I have never noticed before and he's actually pretty good! Have any of you ever heard of or drafted Brandon Gentile? He's a US born defenseman (LD/RD) that starts the game off playing for Michigan State. I drafted him in the 6th round of the 2007 draft. I immediately signed him and sent him to my farm team (Providence Bruins). He's stayed there for three seasons with a couple recalls to the big club in Boston (17 games over 2 seasons). Right now it's late October of 2010 and at 23 years of age he's earned a spot on the Boston Bruins roster. In 9 games so far he has 2 assists and is a +1. His average rating is 7.56 right now. My scouts are saying he's a future core player and project him to be like David Hale. Not bad for a 6th round pick! Here's his attributes...

Anyone who have an idea who's regen this is?
I'm Calgary Hitmen and this is my first round pick in WHL Bantam Draft 2008.
I've been on vacation I've had put myself in the game and wanted to follow the team where I'm playing. Now this is a guy I want to have a closer look on in a couple of seasons.

But that is just because ...well....Jacques won't let him back on the ice until then.joehelmer wrote:Yeah, you're right. A player like Boogeyman, just need to touch him with a finger and then he will not get up until the last second of a period...
Oh, and somewhere in here we do have an official regen thread I believe.

I just had probably the best first year draft I've ever had.
These are my picks:
5 - Angelo Esposito
16 - Nathan Martine
17 - Zack Torquato
34 -Ryan Wilson
53 - Dustin Jeffery
78 - Eric Doyle
We've all done the first year draft so much, we know how these players will pan, I ALWAYS take Ryan Wilson with my first second round pick, he's an unranked stud.
But I think that's a solllid crop of youngsters.

I'm still fairly new around here, but I drafted him in the 3rd round in my recent TML game, and he turned out to be a beast. He was the runner up for the Calder and was one of my more consistant performers in the drive for my first Stanley Cup. When McCabe was injured against the Rangers, Wilson stepped into his spot and did just great. I had no idea he was going to be so good!Ryan Wilson
He somewhere around a 7.8 rating and a +31 for the year.

Yep. He is one of the most overrated players in the game. IN real life...Ryan Wilson has ... a slapshot.
Alot of other things are amiss, badly amiss. IRL not drafted, and may or may not get a pro contract. Likely an AHL one at best too. Guy has some offensive gifts, but he is not much of anything anywhere else on the ice.

If you make your tactics to suit Wilson's style, he can do a lot of damage. In my last game, I've had him getting over 80 pts, Norris and Hart 2 seasons all the while playing 2nd pairing and 1st PP. Quite amazing.
IRL, his skating scares the rubbish out of NHL scouts.... I remember reading somewhere that a NHL scout says something along the line "I've never seen anyone skate like that"... in the bad way of course.

Yes in EHM the boy can play. No question. But he is extremely extremely overrated by the game.... he is nowhere near what he is in EHM in any category let alone skating. He is actually soft as well, and I have seen him develop into a fighter and banger. Not exactly what he is.
In fact in EHM the ability to skate is extremely underrated. So much so that in the original database Mike Rathje is a super stud.

From the group above, only Esposito was quite decent and developed into a solid player in my games.LoXish wrote:I just had probably the best first year draft I've ever had.

I had mixed success with Sam Gagner and Alex Plante and got nice 2nd liners in Kane, Van Riemsdyk and B.Cameron.
I hope it helps.

Kind unrelated but is anyone else's Scouts Always Wrong?
I Drafted a guy that is supposed to be a key player Right out of the draft, sign him and he does nothing in 20 NHL games and has all of 5points in the AHL.
Juniors next year he has like 10p dropping from 90ish the last time he was there. I Waived him nobody took him, So i just let him go off the charts at his contract end.
Next couple years same thing, i even let them develope in Juniors a yr or so before signing them on. So i thought it was my scouts. hired new 1's and to my surpirse same thing. I eve made sure my 20 Ability 20 Potential scouted all of them.
So i signed a guy that was from my Hometown even though he wasn't gonna make it in the NHL and he has 30p in his rookie year on a 3rd line, i move him up to 2nd he jumps to 80p and then to 100p when i throw him on the top line. I re-scout him and it says isn't gonna make it in the NHL.
I have found this to be the case with all my low end Draft picks. Won't make it so i sign them and they turn in to Calder winning, Hart winning, Norris, and Vezina Winning Superstars. Yet none of my First round picks ever make it in the NHL past there rookie Contracts and i have yet to have 1 score more then 15p.
I'm in year 2027.
My top players are all non-NHL talents by my scouts....Hell even my coach says their not upgrades over the current core. Anyone else have this problem?
