League Currencies

Post by B. Stinson »

Here's a strange, and maybe very obvious question for you guys...

What currency is used in real-life North American leagues? Is it league-wide, and based on the league's primary country... or is it team specific - US teams using $US and Canadian teams using $CAN?

The reason I ask is because I like to change my in-game currency to match the league I'm in (for some added realism). Problem is, I never actually thought about how NA leagues are handled with some teams in the US, and some in Canada.

USA $ is used by all the pro leagues in NAmerica, save the Junior leagues. Canadian teams used to by all American $ at one time ...when they thought they got the best deal. I think lately they are being more careful..since the Canadian $ has come up high.

So for years Canadian teams had a big issue. Because revenues were in the Canadian $, and expenses in American. Now though it is a bit of a wash. And for awhile the Canadian teams benefitted. Many say this is why NHL revenues are up so much...basically all of it can be contributed to the rise of the Canadian $ in some way shape or form.

Smart Canadian teams bought a ton of US $ when the Canadian $ got almost to a $1.10 US> seems like a small amount but when you consider in 1 million dollars...that 10 cents means a savings of $100,000 well....its a 600k savings on Roberto Luongo alone.

end of bla bla bla

And I would assume "junior leagues" includes the OHL, WHL, and QMJHL?

'Cause I'm currently in the OHL, Canadian-based of course... but managing the American-based Erie Otters. :-k

Junior leagues just operate with the $ they have. Be it Canadian, or American.
