Internation Hockey Association (Fake World)
I'm not sure if people will be interested, but I've created a fake world database that starts in 2006-2007 following a two-years lockout in the biggest league in the world, the International Hockey Association. Long story short, the league has decided to conduct a leaguewide draft following the lockout to start a new era in the game of hockey.
IHA League Structure
Eastern Conference
Great Lakes Division
Buffalo Bisons
Columbus Brigade
Detroit Legions
Hamilton Generals
Toronto Knights
Northeast division
Boston Royals
Hartford Bears
Montreal Rouge
Ottawa Capitals
Quebec Glaciers
Atlantic division
Atlanta Fire
New York Americans
Philadelphia Titans
Pittsburgh Miners
Washington Stars
Western conference
Central division
Chicago Wolves
Manitoba Thunder
Milwaukee Crusaders
Minnesota Polaris
St. Louis Spirit
West division
Calgary Mavericks
Dallas Patriots
Denver Mountaineers
Edmonton Seahawks
Houston Comets
Pacific division
Los Angeles Saints
Portland Rebels
San Jose Express
Seattle Metropolitans
Vancouver Dynamo
Every team has an affiliate in the MDHL and the MDHL-2. The Canadian Junior Hockey Leagues (WCJHL, CCJHL and ECJHL) are the main leagues for talent development, with some American colleges and european leagues providing other young players.
As of right now, most important players are faked as well as most important North American leagues. Staff members still have their real name, but that should be fixeable pretty quickly. The database could be released pre-League Draft and post-League Draft (as a saved game in the second case). Of course, some things that are hard-coded remain. If people want, I could do some further work on it and release it in the upcoming weeks. I also welcome suggestions and commentaries.
Tell me if you're interested.
P.S. The database is already up and running even if it's not perfect. I've even created a little history behind the league. I'm not the greatest story teller and I wasn't really sure which way to go, but I've started writing this dynasty report just so I can get more immersed in my universe. I'll post it in case you want to get a better idea of the IHA Hockey World:

Great idea! I'm not so sure I like the team names, though. Some are kinda naff, I think. Then again I have gotten used to names such as Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets.
I wouldn't want to have a real teamname like the Chicago Wolves, either.
No biggie, really and since I haven't gotten bored by the old game yet, you don't really have to bother changing anything just because of my input

There are ways around it. Check the Modding Limits List Thread (I think it was there).Nightmare wrote:Just one problem lads....I tried to edit the NHL team names for myslef, but many of them should not be changed, because if you do, you will not be able to start a new game because of many errors. At least that's what happened when i tried it.

I can kind of see your point about the team names. I don't know if I'd go so far as to call them naff (I'd rather not knock someone's work, especially when I haven't gone and done it myself) but I would've preferred to see the names reflect their homes more. In some cases they might fit okay (Buffalo Bisons and Pittsburgh Miners are pretty good. Denver Mountaineers too.) but LA Saints? Boston Royals? Dallas Patriots? I could see Boston Patriots. What about Edmonton Seahawks? Isn't Edmonton a landlocked place? Is it on the sea?Manimal wrote:Great idea! I'm not so sure I like the team names, though. Some are kinda naff, I think. Still, despite the names, this could be a fun mod. After playing the game for as long as I have it might be nice to mix things up some.

You guys have to realise how hard it is to find original and interesting names for more than 150 teams (IHA-MDHL-MDHL2-WCJHL-CCJHL-ECJHL). Often, you just have no more inspiration for cities you have no idea about.
And there's some history behind some of these names. As an exemple, the Dallas Patriots came into existence in 1987 when the Quebec Patriotes moved to Dallas and became the Patriots. Some team names also don't have to be historic. For every Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers, there are Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators.
The database is functionnal right now, but there's a considerable problem with the Canadian Junior leagues. I'm pretty sure there's a hard-coded team in there; I don't get any errors on startup but whenever I want to use the Canadian Juniors in the league selection screen the game will crash to desktop during creation. Of course, that is not a problem if you decide not to select the league, but it's still a very annoying problem because it would be nice to include them as playable.
Another thing. If you look hard enough, it's pretty easy to know who's who. I don't have time to edit all player histories, and most players are on their real junior teams. That said, I don't think it's obvious enough to ruin the fun unless you want to ruin it on yourself.
EDIT: Chicago Wolves was kinda random and in no way intended to be linked with the AHL's Chicago Wolves. I wanted Chicago to have the name of an aggressive animal and chose the Wolves without thinking about their AHL counterparts.

Mod note: well that was interesting. Messed up putting this quote back in duff's fake world thread. Actually had to do alot of extra work to get this back...merged by accident. then redid the official pre game editor thread, then redid this thread. Oops!! Anyway, all is back to the way it should be. /batdad...sorry.
As some of you may have seen in the other thread, I'm currently working on a fictionnal world database. Here are some things I'd like to edit, if someone has been able to edit them without any problem please tell me:
- League Names
- Awards
- All-time leaders
- Retired numbers
Thanks.

if you chose to steal/use other peoples team name's or any information, you really should give them credit.

I wouldn't go tossing around accusations like that, dave. First off, the initial post in this thread is from 2 days before the one in the blog that you linked to. So I'm thinking duff88 might be the one who started it first. Secondly, is it maybe possible that the blog you linked to was done by duff88?
Overall, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think that more than one person could come up with those team names or the league names. The ones listed in the blog aren't really all that unique. But based on the timing of the post and the blog, I'd say the two might be connected (either they're the same person or they're working together).

Obviously I didn't steal the team names. I actually proposed the idea of creating a logo contest with Chris at Icethetics, and he was very enthusiast about it. Some of the logo creators on this blog are amazing, and if all goes well it would make the IHA world that much more immersive. The IHA is a fantasy hockey league that exists only in cyberspace created by an Icethetics reader named Nicolas. I'm collaborating with him to get logos designed by you guys for his league.
It's supposed to be a secret though, so don't go around and tell anyone. It wouldn't do any good anyway.
