Background photo overlay goes darker and darker until black

Post by marcog »

I changed some backgrounds and now EHM 07 is acting strange... the backdrop photo overlay (blueish overlay on top of photo) goes darker and darker until all black and then has some image ghosting going on... Also, on the in-game screen, behind the rink is now all black and there is serious ghosting where the player names are...

Any ideas as to what I did to deserve this?

Yes... you angered the EHM graphic gods by making changes. ;)

Anyway... as for your problem, I'm not sure exactly. However, I can say that EHM is extremely particular about it's graphic files. If just one thing is off, the game'll lose it's mind. So, make sure that all of your new graphics are:

1. The same dimensions as the original file.
2. The same type of file(To me, this sounds like it might be your problem. If it is, make sure your graphic files are in PNG format).
3. In the same location as the original file(s).

If any of those three are broken, you're gonna have a bad time. :-(

Sounds like a format issue. Everything that's NOT included in a skin HAS to be a .png or it adds a weird transparency issue. If you get GIMP it should be able to save a pic as a png

I know what the problem is here, for anyone still interested.

The image ghosting and fade-to-black is caused by you not having an image labelled "default" in your "background" folder in whichever skin you are using. I was messing with this last night, so I speak from experience.

I have a question of my own on this: has anyone found a way of adding multiple backgrounds to the game?
Two things:

-I know there is a CHL background, I was wondering if anyone has found a way of giving a different background to each league? I've tried "nhl" and "national hockey league" among others but nothing worked.
-Is there a way of naming multiple images to the same name (default_1/default1 or office_1/office1 maybe?) so that the backgrounds are randomly shown instead of the same background every time?

Hope the question made sense.

-If you used National Hockey League it should work. However, it'll only be visible on the Standings page I believe.
-Ugh, I had this done for my news.....can't find my news stuff now...gimme a couple of minutes....It can be done though, not sure if it works for news items only or everything, never tried...hmm...

No luck on the "National Hockey League" thing. I only wanted a different background for the standings just to give the game a bit of variety, but it isn't essential. I keep getting the "default" image on it.

To be honest, I'm guessing if it doesn't work along the lines of the "chl" image (i.e. "nhl"), then it probably can't be done. In fact, coming to think of it, I have never had the CHL background work for me either. Maybe you have to run it as a playable league?

Thanks anyway.

I've never bothered with backgrounds before, but my guess would be that maybe there has to be a certain folder for league backgrounds...?

Again, I can't go from experience on that... I've just read about a handful of extra graphical things the game can pick-up if you create proper folders for them; which I don't think SI ever really talked about; it's just kind of a discover-for-yourself type deal. :dunno:

Pondering a bit, I think you have to remove one of the default graphics files...
