EDIT: I also plan to post on the front page every week, a top 5 ranking of the teams with the best 'points change' for that week. Kind of like the CHL's weekly top 10 rankings.

I know you can easily find this info out by sorting the league standings, but I think it'd be more fun to highlight the top 5 every week on the front page.

I really love the idea of having this as an annual event. If most of the competitors competed year on year then we could get some fun rivalries going. We did in fact used to run an annual fantasy hockey game but that stopped when Minstrel left TBL. It's great to see it starting again!

The trophies are a great idea. Maybe we could have some sort of wooden spoon award?!

Brian, if there's anything I can do on TBL to help you please let me know. I've made this thread an announcement sticky so it's easy to find at the top of the forum.

I like the wooden spoon idea. In fact, when making the Presidents' Trophy, the thought crossed my mind, but I wasn't sure how to do it. Nor was I aware that it was even done in sports. Did some research, and learned something new. :-)

So, I've inducted a simple 'Wooden Spoon' to be awarded annually in good humour to our last place team.

I'm really hoping my luck doesn't continue into our draft order. I have yet to get a pick higher than 5th overall in these mock drafts. So far I've had 9th, 10th, 7th, 5th, and 8th. :-(

I have a rule!

Only I am allowed to draft Milan Michalek!

Otherwise like Getzlaf said....No more knee caps! :-p

Now I don't know who to draft first, Michalek or Getzlaf...:-k

Maybe we should all draft our favourite NHL team's best player in the first round. In which case, I call Ovechkin

I have yet to get a chance to draft either Michalek or Getzlaf in a mock draft, so you guys should be safe from my luck. ;)

Hahaha! I agree! Although i know that Stinson will draft Getzlaf 1st overall to spite me. And to develop on one of Stinsons previous jokes. He would Get-Z-Laf out of it!

I think you two just about ensured Getzlaf and Michalek getting drafted early on entirely out of spite. Of course, anyone who drafts them before Crosby or Ovechkin is just being foolish.

Invite sent to CatchUp. 19 teams, and only one spot left... up for anyone who wants it...

And on the topic of drafts, we've got a deep league... so don't be surprised if your team looks like a real team, and not a completely stacked all-star fantasy team. ;)

That's a good thing. We can make some gambles on young players that might pay off big.

Definitely. Our true manager skills will show in this league. ;)

No 'getting by' with names you always read about in the paper.

But we're all EHM'ers, we're used to it. 8-)

Not in England, mate. Last time I read about something in a paper over here about ice hockey was a tiny piece on how the season openers at the O2 arena had gone off without a hitch. :headache:

Back to ESPN fantasy hockey - anyone else feel the pre-draft ranker is missing an option for ranking players solely by position? Like, having a ranking list for just goalies, and just D-men and so on. I'm finding it hard to rank Martin Brodeur against Alex Ovechkin, for example; it's kinda hard to say who is the better fantasy player as they're not even competing in the same categories.

Also, is anyone else slightly confused by ESPN's rankings? I mean, Raycroft ahead of Kiprusoff? I know Kipper had a bad season last time out, but come on! Theodore at 7 is just insane compared to Luongo at 26, who is a much better player right now playing behind a better defense (I hope). Bryzgalov at 15 behind a rather leaky Phoenix defense? I checked the Yahoo ones and the seem a tad more realistic, IMHO, if anyone else wants (maybe) a better ranking base to start from.

Man, am I moaning too much. Good luck for the draft, everyone :). Hope I get first pick.

m0fownz0r has been invited, which means we have reached our limit of 20 teams. No more room unless anyone decides to drop out.

As for positional rankings Marty vs Ovechkin, I usually get around that question by assuming my team will be autopicked(it takes the first player still available on your list). Then, I'll decide who I'd rather have it pick over who - which is usually a matter of position. If I know I want a forward first, then I'll put Ovechkin first. If I want to get a goalie first, I'd put Marty above Ovechkin.

I usually don't like to toot my own horn, but I just managed to make one heck of a logo. ...Completely hand-crafted stalks of wheat, too(which I have been wanting to try for a long time). :joy:

Wow that's mighty impressive! You are quite a whizz when it comes to graphics (I still absolutely love our header images ). I think I might have to design a Mighty Turnips logo - although I think it will be more comical and amateur than a well designed logo! :D

Sweet stuff! Like Batdad, I stuck to the simple jersey logos the site let's you create... although mine wasn't quite as "colorful" as batdad's. I might have to re-think my logo and come up with something original (although not quite as slick as yours).
