Player coaches ???

Post by Space_Monkey187 »

hi everyone i have a question about player coaches. Now i know if you need a head coach and the player you want has good states for being a coach and can play well can you use them to help a player in there development if you play in a low league like the BNL or Elite league. Because i was wondering if you have a good player coach thats a good D-man would he be able to help a young D-man with his development if you don't have the depth to send them to the minors or juniors and you can't afford to send them out on loan? I was thinking of doing a NHL type coaching for my Edinburgh capitals like what the Red Wings have done with Chris Chelios and Kyle Quinchy having him work with someone so good. Would this give my young guy the same states in key areas that the player coaching has aka stamina, poke check and hitting. Because i know in a league with no top stars its hard to get in good players i was thinking of making some star players can anyone tell me if this would work and if they know any good players in the UK that are good to build a team around.

Personally, I would not sign someone as a "Player/Coach", muddies up the water too much for my taste. If you would like to use a veteran as a mentor for a youngster, take a look at the vet's mental stats. Does he have good influence, teamwork and work rate? If so, I would play them together on the same line/pairing. As long as the youngster isn't a complete wreck, the vet tends to help cover his mistakes and the youngster learns first hand. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, JMO.

Another thing to keep in mind is your coaching staff's attribs. If you have a young group of forwards, defensemen, goalies or a young team in general, make sure that the applicable group's coach has a good "Working with Youngsters" stat. This helps immensely with player development. For example: If I have a young group of defensemen, and I have a choice between a coach with a 20 in CDf but 5 in Yng and a coach with 14 CDf but 20 in Yng, I take the latter every time. The reasoning being, it doesn't matter how technically sound a coach is. If he can't communicate that technique well to your players, the players won't learn it as well. Again, JMO.

Hope this helps.

The reason why i thought imight ask is because every time i have a good young player the never get any better for me and i thought give some one to help build on would be a good step to make the next star to step if it does work i will let you know because am going to start another season and keep everyone up to date with everything am doing and see if anyone knows where i might be going wrong had a coach because i can never seem to win a cup i always end up runner up which is a pain lol
