Making an offer public

Post by Iceman90 »

Hi guys,

When negotiating contracts, there is always the option to make the offer public. What does this do, and what are the pros and cons of it?

I imagine this means other teams know what I'd be offering say a UFA, so they could easily outbid me. However, if I am re-negotiating with my franchise star, who I know will sign, should I make the offer public, so fans know I am working on the guy? If I make an offer public, that is a reasonable offer, and some greedy player refuses it, does it affect that player in the fan's eyes?

Chances are, the only appreciable affect would be to allow other teams to out bid you. I haven't noticed any affect of the opinion of the fans other than to berate me when I trade one of their favs or to let me know they liked an acquisition. There is a reason that RL offers are not made public until they are signed & sealed (and sometimes not even then).

Although, it could be useful to make other teams overpay for FAs. Underhanded and not very realistic, but possible.
