First NHL Coach Fired

Post by Minstrel »

Pittsburgh's coach Ed Olczyk has become the first coach to be fired this season. A real good guy, too bad.

I'm guessing someone had to take the fall for the horrendous mess the Pens have been so far this year. I wonder what all those people that we saying now they had Crosby and all these other new players they were locks to win the Cup think now...

I wasnt predicting cup but definatley a low playoff seed. Eddie definatley is the fall guy on this one but the Mr. Patrick should also be taking a ton of heat. He is the one who spent 5 millon for Gonchar, got Rechi, Leclair, Thibault, Roy, Poapst (not on team now) and Palffy. Out of all those free agents only Palffy has played well. Rechi is like a minus 15, Gonchar just stinks, Leclair very inconsistent, Thiblault has been wavied once, Roy hurt. I think the hole might be to big to make a run at the playoffs but it will be interesting to see how these guys play under Therrian(might of spelled it wrong). From what I hear he is a disciplinarian and will call out players for a bad performance unlike Olczyk who is the ultimate players coach. The brightspots for the team has been of course Crosby and the play of young goalie Fleury who looks like he has all the makings to be an elite goalie. E. Christenson also looks like he will be a very good player in the future and R. Whitney has been the best defenseman(not saying much) since he has been called up. This team could be really good in about 3 years. We also got Malkin hopefully coming over. Reports around the locker room suggest that they are a divided club with all the young guys not wanting to listen to the old guys because they are not producing or working hard. For as much as I hated the idea of Crosby getting the C so early im starting to change my mind for he is the hardest working Penguin and the C would give him some authority to speak up.
