Smetana 07/08 Rosters - Crashing on a specific date

Hiya!
I tried searching first several times but could not find anything similar to my problem so therefore this post, if I have missed an existing thread please refer me there.

Situation report:

I've started out a new game based on the smetana_07_08_season.sav and I've been GMing the Chicago Blackhawks the whole time. I've been using the Eastside UK saved game Editor for NHL EHM 2007 to modify the salary cap/floor every season without any problems whatsoever until earlier today. It is now Saturday AM 30th June 2012 and it's after the game has updated its data but the day before the second bunch of Free Agents are to be released from their clubs.

When I now continue the game, it processes afternoon, then evening and then crash to desktop. Every single time the exact same thing happens and I've tried reloading several times and tried everything I could think of ingame (like recalling all scouts, putting the 'soon to be free agents' on waivers, offering new contracts and such).

Does anyone recognize this behaviour or is it my typical luck or the lack of it :rant:

I know I'm grasping for propably nothing but since I just broke all my previous records and had a pretty good draftday I'd love to continue into the sixth season of this franchise so I'm willing to try anything in order to save that game :cry:

I've never used the smetana rosters myself, but I believe he stopped working on it because it always crashes at a specific date. That's most likely what's happened to your game.

Not the reply I wanted to see but thank you anyways :cry:

I didn't have much of hope to rescue that save anyways but at least now I know.

Guess I'll try out this LidasDB I've been reading about here now instead :-D

Sorry about your savegame, and the best of luck with your new game. I will release a new version before X-mas, so you might want to wait a few days :-D

Hello bubbas,

unfortunately i have the same problem. i'm in the end of season 2011/2012. The last season was my best with the pens.
And now the game crashed on 30th June 2012 :cry: :cry:

I feel your pain :cry:

I'll just have to wait until Lidas releases his new rosters and start over. But I doubt I'll ever get that same first line together with Joe Thornton as center between Alexander Ovechkin and Patrick Kane with Erik Johnson and Dion Phaneuf on the blueline. Thornton had at least 106 points per season the five seasons I got to play and Ovechkin with at least 50 goals per season including a phenomenal last season with 65 goals and 65 assists.

But if anyone knows of any workaround around this crashbug please give me a holler because I'd much rather continue that franchise than start over (again). Mainly due to the challenge I was facing in replacing the next days UFA Eric Staal as my second line center ;)

Sorry to give you more bad news, but I don't think a work-around was ever found for the crash. Smetana seemed to abandon his project :(
