This off-season, I throw 7.5 mill a year at Kiprosoff when he's asking for 5.5 and he takes a 5.6 offer from Toronto, similar story with Luongo on a second attempt at a new nettie, and also trying to get Kariya he signs for a million less than I was offering!
These deals they're taking aren't filled up with bonuses to sweeten the deal, they're just clean taking the poorer deal. I can understand favourite team coming into it a bit, but surely the cash is an over-riding factor, and if not, could I offer much less in future trying to sign players? Because if they want to come to me, they'll come for a fair offer anyway, an extra 2 mill won't make an impact!
I'm wondering if its anything to do with them not wanting to go to a division rival, as I'm the Avs. Maybe the Canucks and Flames ex netties don't want to line up against their old teams?
Its a real pain to me though, need a franchise nettie as its the only thing I'm missing, nothing in the drafts at all, and free agents won't sign! Of course, trying to make NHL sides trade top players is hopeless so I'm stuck!
On a side note - Who/When's the first true franchise netminder that comes up in the drafts? I'm looking ahead to the end of the 5th year of the game where I can see a young nettie as the only player for that years draft with a good reputation at the moment (I forget the name and my games not loaded), is that the first decent one to go at? Or am I waiting until perhaps Broduer's regen appears? I don't know how far in you get before the available players are all regens, but could this one I'm seeing be Ed Belfour perhaps? I can't think of any others that retire too early.
Whats up with Free Agent Signings?

Why don't you just trade one of your 22 first round picks, one of your 10 superstar centres or 20 superstar defensemen prospects for him? I mean you know how the AI works...I am sure you could trade 10 fourth liners and 22 third liners and the Loafs would happily hand you Kipper...And wow...would your team ever be unbeatable. You are like the bestest GM Ever Miked.

At least I got 1 paragraph of a reasonable reply... why is a 7 year old modding on this forum?
joe - Does the game really take into account players perhaps thinking they won't get much ice time in the future? And in any case, as I said there are no goalie prospects and so Kippa will get at least 6-8 years and thats if I get a top pick that develops well!

Because that "7 year old" has put many, many hours of time and effort into this community and has quite a bit of hockey and EHM knowledge. Most of us around here have been playing EHM for quite a while now and like to play it as a hockey management simulator... which is what it is. You're really not impressing anyone with how you can exploit weakness in the AI. Really, what kind of fun is that?miked1991 wrote:At least I got 1 paragraph of a reasonable reply... why is a 7 year old modding on this forum?

Well those hours of effort and all that EHM knowledge could be put to better use than insulting players for playing with a differant style. Can't exactly call it exploiting until I've won the Stanley Cup five years in a row, which I havn't.bruins72 wrote:Because that "7 year old" has put many, many hours of time and effort into this community and has quite a bit of hockey and EHM knowledge. I can totally understand Batdad's frustration. So often we see people who want to just find the easiest way to win, like putting a big fat "WIN" button in the center of the screen. People looks for the cheap shortcuts or flaws in the AI rather than taking the time to learn how to play the game. Stacking a team really isn't playing the game though. Wouldn't a Stanley Cup victory be kind of hollow if you got it because you outsmarted the game-makers rather than getting all you could out of a team like in real life? Maybe you should take a good long read through the tactics thread and learn how to get more out of your team instead?miked1991 wrote:Well those hours of effort and all that EHM knowledge could be put to better use than insulting players for playing with a differant style. Heh, calling me a 7 year old is funny. Don't I wish...wish I was that young again, and had no responsibilities, no job, no lids of my own....cause then I could just teach myself to exploit exploit exploit.
Hmm..with the roster you have you cannot even win the cup? Me thinks B72 is right, time to start paying attention to those who can win the cup, and to go out and have a look at the tactics threads, all the old advice threads around here about how to do things right, and maybe you will get somewhere.
In my Blackhawks game I drafted a kid in the 7th round...was immediately offered high calibre players for him (2nd liners). I said no...and developed him. Scored 100 pts for me one year. So yeah...develop the players, read the tactics, and you will be fine.
Not saying don't make trades...I have made trades. Just not to overhaul the entire roster.
