I've still got the 91-92 Database.

It was nowhere done as in depth as the 79-80 database but still a great one to have.

I can upload it somewhere in the next week or to this site if that'd be allowed. I don't know who did it but I'd love to see more work done with it.

Jason--Not sure who did that db, so I Want to give credit to the person who made it, and have his/her permission for it to be on our site. So, at this point, if you could just contact FlugAn through PM or email, and deal privately on that.

If the 90s db person gives permission, we can have you send it to us to set up as a download, but for now...no.

That would be awesome if you could upload it or, depending on the size, maybe email it.
Think its up to 10 MB you can send via mail. If so, my email address is flugaaan@hotmail.com :-)

Sorry if this is a question that has been asked a million times.

I tried to search FIRST, with no luck.

Is it possible to have a retro database that allows drafts with players of that year?

For example, a 90-91 db with draftees from 91

I would like to play 80's db or 90's db. Only game i have played with Gretzky, Tikkanen, Roy etc. is NHL 99 and... you know, not good graphics, but when i first time played it (about 2001), graphics were amazing. :-D

80's db, cause Gretzky, Kurri, Anderson, Messier etc. played in Oilers. It could be very cool to play with Kurri-Gretzky-Messier line. :-D

79-80 db could be good, if there's Gordie Howe etc.

I have played a little that 79-80db and i think that is it possible to edit player histories, cause many player has nothing and they are played many years in NHL. And maybe we can make this db better, by making future players (drafted maybe 1980-1985). That could be cool. And first we make NHL and then maybe SM-league, cause i can send player information about 79-80 SM-league rosters/players.

Only if there's people, who are interested to update this DB.

I have been looking at it. Starting a season too. It would definitely require a bit of work. Some work on the NHL ... AHL/ECHL. And yeah the European leagues too.

It seems strange to see Matt D'Agostini being pursued by teams back then. ;)

Yeah, there's many things to repair, like free agents, for example Matt D'Agostini and Jamie Allison. And some teams have players, which plays todays in North America, i saw Neil Komadoski etc. And many teams have poor goalies, and New York Islanders have 3 goalies who are very good (it's similar to 2009-2010: DiPietro, Biron, Roloson):-D .

I want to know, are player stats (seasons and how many points they have scored) hard-coded or can i update those. For example, Gordie Howe doesn't have career stats.

Using the editor players stats can be adjusted, histories changed, etc. You can make new players or reqrite existing ones to change who they are. :)

Can somebody make facepack to 79-80 DB? Some pics, where's players face or action pic from later 70's, if somebody found from googlepics or somewhere.

I am starting to clean up the player lists on mine. Lots of double entries. As a player then and a coach now.

I may rework the teams too. Use all of the WHA teams and only then add new ones. Maybe revive some old NHL teams. Plus the farm teams need to be reworked a bit too. Then you have the prospects.

Gah ... this feels like a long term project when I want to play NOW.

darn ... have a long break at work and spent it looking at teams for the 79-80 mod. Decided to use a mix of WHA and defunct NHL teams. Still 3 short of 30. So I started looking at some of the WHL teams that lasted to 74. Part of the NHL expansion in the early 70's was to counter the WHL building up on the west coast.

Boston Bruins Buffalo Sabres *Birmingham Bulls
Calgary Flames ***California Golden Seals Chicago Blackhawks
*Cincinnati Stingers Colorado Rockies Detroit Red Wings
Edmonton Oilers Hartford Whalers **Houston Aeros
*Indiannapolis Racers Los Angeles Kings Minnesota North Stars
Montreal Canadiens New York Islanders New York Rangers
**Ottawa Senators Philadelpia Flyers Pittsburgh Penguins
Quebec Nordiques St. Louis Blues Toronto Maple Leafs
Vancouver Canucks Washington Capitals Winnipeg Jets

* WHA Teams not taken into NHL in 1979.
**WHA Teams defunct before 1979 merger.
*** NHL Teams defunct before 1979 merger.

I would love to make a Canadian Maritime team (it is fantasy at this point after all).

Phoenix Roadrunners WHL 74
Portland Buckaroos WHL 74
Salt Lake Golden Eagles WHL 74
Seattle Totems WHL 74
San Diego Gulls WHL 74
Denver Spurs WHL 74

I decided to go with the Calgary Flames because the Cowboys folded long before the merger and didn't get a lot of support in Calgary. A friend of mine is a rabid Flames fan, from Calgary, and was around then. He couldn't even remember the Cowboys. Add to that the fact the Flames moved to Calgary the next season and you get a What the Dickens why not do it moment. :)

In 79-80 there were two Maritime teams in the AHL; The New Brunswick Hawks and the Nova Scotia Voyageurs. ONe of them might fit your league

If you're going to do this right and have it so everyone in the DB is from back then (no current players or staff still sitting around in the database), it's definitely going to be a long term project. There was a guy that was here a while back that was working on a WHA database but he hasn't been around in ages. If you really do want to do a detailed historical database, you're going to have a lot of work ahead of you and you'll probably want to gather a dedicated research team to help you. Look at the amount of work that's gone into Lidas' updates. He's had many people researching many different leagues and teams and then he's had tons and tons (I can't imagine how many hours) of editing. So look at that amount of work and then factor in the fact that you're researching old history. This isn't current info. This is all stuff from before the internet existed. You'll probably have a hard time finding pictures for facecards for players that weren't stars unless you have an extensive hockey card collection from the era that you can scan. A project like this is just HUGE!

Personally, I'd like to see a database set in the 90's when the last two expansion teams were added to the NHL. That would be easiest in regards to league structure and it's recent enough that there will be many players that everyone is familiar with. Some of the current league stars would be on their junior teams or maybe even younger than that. It could be interesting.
