Weak clearances everywhere

Okay, so I just bought the game online and started a new game with the Rangers. My first preseason game and Jaromir Jagr makes "weak clearances" everywhere he is, offensive, defensive and neutral zone and ends up with SEVEN giveaways and a 6 rating.

Now I know the ice at the Garden is bad but it's not so bad you have to make clearances in the offensive zone.

The game has the 2.1.2 update and I'm using Smetana 2.0 rosters. If anyone has anything to say about all this please do, I'll try again later but I don't see why this would change all of a sudden.

Well... some odd things happen in preseason games; my first one for my second season of my Washington Challenge team ended up being a 11-4 barnburner with New Jersey... as for Jagr I'm sure he'll pull it around

maybe it was just something in the water.

Unfortunately that's not the case. Jagr made SIX "weak clearances" with Rangers on the powerplay. And it is a problem, he can't get up to speed at all.

I reinstalled the game, ran it without the Smetana patch and Jagr was playing normally. I installed the patch and there was Jagr making weak clearances in the offensive zone.

I've got Jagr with the Smetana rosters and never noticed him being bad at clearances or giveaways through two seasons

Maybe tactics/strange database glitch/bad luck?

I've been trying different things for a few hours now.

I can tell it only happens during preseason but it's still a bug. I played Pittsburgh, Crosby and Lemieux were making weak clearances (in the offensive zone) for them so it's a star player thing.

It's funny because I haven't seen it before although I played through a preseason with Toronto. Still a bit upset after paying 48 euros and then a bug appears.

Been looking at some regular season games now. Jagr is okay, but goalie Lundqvist is at it making weak clearances all over the place.

Update: Been working on this for days now. I've installed the game over and over, scanned my hard drives for viruses and downloaded latest virus definitions for F-Secure.

Here's some highlights from how my game works:

Jagr picks up the puck
Jagr with a weak clearance
Jagr picks it up
Jagr tries to clear it
But it's weak
Jagr takes control of the puck
He clears it
But it's weak
Hatcher picks up the loose puck

I have a topic on the official SI forums and I'm really, really mad.

What's the players condition at that point? Maybe he's just exhausted from the practice you've put him through...

Another thing is that no matter how much money you pay for any software, not just games, there's always some bugs. There are basically no exceptions at all to this.

I still beilive its something to do with your tactics.

Have you tried changing his individual settings so hes basiacally a puck hog?

Borlag, I doubt Jagr would be exhausted in the first period of the first preseason game.

E5150_ca, I had different players with the same settings as Jagr (carry puck and shoot) but they would not behave like this. I changed his settings too among the countless things I tried but to no avail. Also, tactics don't affect goalies. You see, in regular season, my goalie started playing like this:

Lundqvist saves it easily
Lundqvist clears it
But it's weak
Prospal picks up the puck
Prospal shoot from the backhand
Lundqvist with a save
Lundqvist tries to clear the puck
But it's weak
Prospal alone with the goalie
He makes his move
Prospal shoves it at the goal
He scores!

This is more than a bug. This is a disaster. Somebody want to try out my savegame?

Never really being a fan of Lunqvist, I don't know his strengths or weakness's, but have you tried telling him to 'stay in his crease' as opposed to 'play the puck'

I've spent probably around 30-35 hours testing and trying things. Just give me benefit of the doubt?

Perhaps you should tell us what you've already tried to do to fix the problem as opposed to acting like an ass when your offered help.

Dude, he was just trying to help!

Like he said, there's not many controls you can give a G. All I can think of (and I think it's all been mentioned above) is telling the goalie to stay in his crease, he has poor clearing/passing/etc. attributes, or he's too tired from playing too many games or training. They're the only factors I can think of.

It is very much possible considering that the game has the players taking a break during the summer and that way their condition drops constantly even if they're not doing anything. So again, what was the condition? So far you're the only person to speak about this kind of problem, so atleast to me it's pretty obvious that it could really be something that you're doing instead of a bug.

Jagr's condition is the same as everyone else's. Funny thing is, in preseason, Jagr is the only guy on my team doing the weak clearances. I played the Penguins and they had Crosby and Lemieux doing weak clearances in the offensive zone.

If you want to give it a go on my savegame I'd really appreciate it.

I went through one exhibtion game and wow, you weren't kidding. Everytime Jagr touched the puck in his own end he made a weak clearence. The few times Lundqvist touched the puck he covered it, so it seems telling him to stay in his crease fixes that problem.

I really have no idea what to do, I guess just wait for one of the developers of the game to respond on the sigames forums.

Okay, thanks for trying it out for me.

You must have played a preseason game: in preseason it's the players who make the weak clearances, in regular season it's the goalie. I doubt it's got anything to do with goalie instructions.
