Think you're a good EHM GM? Our GM Challenges dare you to take over a team and make it a winner. The Challenge Forum and Centre are the hubs of our Challenges.
We will be kicking off Challenge Two early in January so, who would you most want to manage? Highest votes decides who is the next Challenge team. Ties will go to a re-vote specifically between the tied teams.
This poll will run for a few weeks, basically until we notice there hasn't been a vote casted for some time.
In this Challenge players will be required to be using ver 2.1.2 of the game (the "North American" update plus the latest patch) and players can choose between standard rosters or standard "unfaked" rosters. Since the Smetana rosters change player attributes they cannot be used for the Challenges. That is in order to keep everyone playing on equal footing, with players rated the same.
Hluraven: You can always backup your database folder, install the unfake db, start your game and then restore your backup of the database folder. That's what I'll be doing.
I've voted for the Canes. They have the potential for playing really well if you manage the team correctly (take a look at them in real life). Plus, Staal is cool.
The list came from of course we look to take on a team that needs some work to get to the playoffs so that influences the list. The Kings and Jackets are hold-overs from previous voting lists and they would be joined by the Sharks but I DQ'd 'em as too talented
The others were actually the three lowest point getters at the end of my Washington Challenge season so that was how they made the list.
Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa and probably Toronto are too powerful "out of the box" for Challenges really but yeah I'll add Edmonton and Montreal for next vote for some Canadian flava
We will be keeping voting open for a while yet. We will be waiting until the final patch is released by SI which is supposed to be by the latest mid January.
If you're new to the Challenges though that gives you time to read through the Challenge rules and info and let us know if you have any questions.
Voted Carolina, but wouldnt mind playing Buffalo either really.
Just made a test game with those 2 teams and they seem very similar in terms of budget and talent, so it shouldnt be that big of a deal. However I was wondering how many seasons you intend to play, since it goes against my principles to trade away picks/prospects for short term success, especially when you have little chance of winning the cup anyway. To give a more realistic impression of who is the better gm, it should run something like 5 seasons .
I think Arch and D88 will probably join in for the second year of WAS too though I don't want to speak for them.

As for the Challenges that's why we've made it so you can only trade the next year's draft picks so people don't just slash and burn their system. We make people stick to the Board given budget too so they can't go on a FA spree either though that is harder to do now with The Cap.
Quite honestly I'll keep posting the stats as long as people want to go; people play at different paces though and we have to wait for the majority of people to finish season one before going on to two etc. After the first one is finished and people get a better chance to see how much fun we all had with them they do tend to go a bit faster though. The Challenges are more about competition with each other, telling stories, and braggin' rights.
People that do want to play at a season every month or so pace as some do are probably better served starting a Dynasty story thread and posting their details for everyone to see whenever they finish them. One nice thing about EHM is all the different ways you can play it.
Indeed but I cant help be biased since I am excellent at building teams and maintaning success, and not quite so good at getting the most out of a random team . Adjust the players after the system, not the system after the players .

They aren't random, they're always teams that "need work" and also we're voting on them so they are most certainly not a random team. Sorry, just being obnoxious to be funny (and yes, I am a comedian)
Seriously though that is the key element of the Challenges, that they aren't a team you know or work with so you have to do your homework to assess who stays/goes and what you need to do to make the team successful. It's just one of many ways to approach the game, this way is best suited to a group of people working the game at their own pace on their own computer. It provides us the added bonus of sharing with everyone who is working from the same starting point with the same rules/goals.
It forces you to break out of your comfort zone and learn more about the game and players in the process. Oh, and it's a lot of fun
I wouldn't mind playing the Sabres, but I think they are too powerful. I think Florida would make a good challenge team, and maybe the St. Louis Blues.
