That's exactly what he's waiting for. And then once you've left, he'll make the announcement. :-p

Glad I came by this week!

I think you guys have done a good job revamping the rules - can't wait to get started...

I may have missed it, but as always (recently anyway) the affiliate is anything goes, personell-wise, yes?

Anyway, thanks for graciously handling our comments / gripes about the last challenge and turning out what look to be great rules for future ones!

Glad you came back, mustardstew! Yes, you can do whatever you like with personnel for your affiliates. We've just got the restrictions on the main challenge team's personnel.

ok, another question

I've been busy trying to sign my unsigned prospects (get them out of college and back to juniors, as well as older Europeans as they seem to perform better than my roster...).

I ended up over the reserve list limit (contracts), and decided that Smithson on a 1-way contract was not going to work. Put him on waivers, and tried to negotiate a buyout (its mid-Sept.) - he won't accept it - can I release him?

I know its a $1.9 million cap hit, but I will want that money later for my incoming contracts / FAs / draft picks, and he's not in my, ahem, the team's future...

Thanks! Sorry the rules say you can buy players out... nothing about flat-out releasing... just being cautious :)

I believe that releasing a player and buying them out are pretty much the same in the sense that you have to pay them to leave. I think it was just how we phrased it in the rules. My first instinct is to say, no you can't release him in mid-September if he makes over $750k. Let me discuss it with Archi first and get back to you though. Alternatively, you could just release somebody else that makes less. You might have a junk player on your farm team that you could release?

ah... I don't think he's over 750k - the cap hit is because he's signed to 2012...

guess it could amount to the same problem?

he makes 675000 per year until 2010 - oops!

I need to pay more attention to my players contracts - 2012, geez...

anyway, I'll keep him and ditch someone else - plenty to choose from!

If he's making less than $750k, he's perfectly okay to ditch at any time.

Hi everybody!

I've been away for a while, and when I came back to the site I noticed a new challenge. Awesome! I've read the rules several times and I'm interested, I don't understand the financial parts though.

I noticed that the Predators are over their team-mandated player budget. Does that make a difference the first season? I think it always did before.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

First off... Welcome back, Timmy! It's nice to see an old challenge regular back in the fold. This new challenge and the new rules have been a lot of fun. Glad you're joining in!

Your only concern with finances is to not let them get so bad that you will be fired. You start the game over the team's budget but it's not enough to get you fired. You'll be safe to play the entire first season without worry of that (it's been tested). Going into season 2 and beyond, just try not to go too far over the team's budget and if you do, you'd better be winning like a maniac so that they don't mind. In all honesty, these is really the most relaxed financial situation we've had in a challenge for a long time. You should be fine.

I don't agree, the financial situation in Saint John was very relaxed, sure it's soon been year since then but still. :-D

So my statement saying "In all honesty, these is really the most relaxed financial situation we've had in a challenge for a long time." is correct. :-p

Ok, thanks bruins72.

I'll get everything together and once I'm ready with the rules, I'll post my intention to play and then play by the rules. :-)

Don't forget to download the new stats recording spreadsheet and the cheat sheet. That cheat sheet is a handy reference for the new rules.

If we choose the second UFA tier do the player with "Very good" as reputation have to get a salary between $1.5m-$3.0m?

I have a hard time to find any player/goalie with that level of reputation and wants so much in salary.

Yes, you have to give the players the range of money that goes with their UFA Tier. There will be some players who will want more than you are able to offer (I've seen several "Very Good" players asking for $4M or so ) and there are some that won't be asking for that much. You'll have to offer them at least the minimum that their tier requires. That might mean over-paying them. That's something you have to keep in mind when considering who you sign and your budget. In all honesty, $1.5M isn't very much for a "Very Good" player.

I got a questions on the rules :

I finally went with tier 2 in signing UFA. got me 2 nice defenders at rep good with 975k and 1,5m wage. I can sign another player but cant find anyone i want or who wanna join.

-Can i sign one in europe this upcoming seson and joins me after in june when windows open and count him to the 3. Or do i need use UFAS next summer to get him and get another now? player is kahnberg or brendl

You can sign a player that's in Europe as one of your signings this season but he won't come over until the next summer. What you should do, is take a screenshot of the news item where he agrees to the contract to show that you signed him during the UFA signing window. Also take a picture of his info so we can see his rep.

It's kind of an awkward situation. This is the best way I can think of to handle it.
