EA Sports NHL 06 / 2K Sports NHL 2K6

Post by E5150_ca »

I actually have this game. I'm not too hot on it though, the defensive mechanics are HORRIBLE. I'll be happy to play a few games with you though, just give me a time.

Defence mechanics on 2K5 or 2K6? I'm thinking of getting an X-Box soon and will get 2K6 as soon as it comes out. It's supposed to be a hell of a lot better than EA Sports' NHL 2006. I especially like the look of 2k6's passing system (iirc it's called 'Pro Control').

The only thing i'll say about 2k5 is that its clear that it was designed by people who don't watch or play much hockey.

Oh ok

I heard it was supposed to be way better than EA Sports NHL 2005. Tho the EA series has sucked more often than not...

Well, I haven't played any of the 2006 games yet, but I gladly pick EA 2004 over 2k5.

2k6's European release has been delayed until 10th March. :-x Apparently, the localisation of the game is delaying its release. Does it really take from September 2005 (when it was released in the US) until March 2006 to translate everything? I very much doubt it as most games come out in multiple languages at the same time as the US release date.

It's gonna be about six months until it becomes out of date and 2k7 is released in the US. Seems pretty pointless to me. They better have fixed the bugs of the US version and provide up-to-date rosters otherwise it's gonna make me wonder what the hell they've been doing over the past six months. I'm tempted to get EA NHL 2006 but I hear 2k6 is far superior.

I am also fuming at this-I have posted this on the 2k sports website...

I completely agree with the first fan. I was looking forward to the release of NBA and NHL back in November only for it to be delayed to the end of this month. Living in the Uk I should still get it on that date. To learn that for some it has been put back to March makes me very sympathetic to him/her-most of you guys will get the next incarnation in the not too distant future. It also shows incredible lack of foresight from the 2K team. The central European potential market for Ice Hockey games is incredibly strong, and effectively 2K Sports are shooting themselves in the foot. They cannot possibly hope to compete with EA Sports, who despite poor quality games, at least get their product out right at the beginning of the season in order to get a big slice of the market. This is shoddy from 2K Sports, and their repeated promises of better treatment to the European market will now fall on deaf ears in the future. They will have to do a lot to win fans back round over the next few years.

Now, even that is not correct. I have decided to boycott this years game (might change my mind ;)), but in all seriousness I hope 2k lose sales because of this. We deserve better than this.

I see you're on 2khockey.net too, archibalduk. I am still gutted about that delay. In the meantime do you know where the best place to buy a cheapish X-box would be? (aside from e-bay) I want one so I can download those superb goal horns from 2khockey.net.
I might be away for a while from here, mainly because of...
1)exams
2) The superbowl build-up 8-)
3) bought FM 2006 on Sunday ;)

Play.com had them for £80 but they've sold out.

I got mine really cheap from an offer I found on Argos but it finished last Friday. I reserved it over the internet and then collected it from my local Argos Extra. Basically, I got £205-worth for only £100. For £100 I got an X-box, two controllers, the DVD remote, Forza Motorsport and Halo 2. Absolute bargain! I like to think that the X-Box and one controller cost me £50 and the other addons were another £50 :D

I just bought an extension lead so that I can use my USB memory stick as a memory card for my X-Box (LINK). This means that I can download updated rosters for Pro Evolution Soccer 5 from the internet and copy them to my X-Box. It'll also be useful for NHL 2K6 rosters

Anyway, the RRP for an X-Box is £99.99 at the moment. Apparently a price drop is expected around March/April.

Argos are currently doing an offer where you get the X-Box for £99.99 and get a wireless controller, Sonic Heros and Simpsons Hit & Run free (LINK)

Gameplay are selling X-Boxes for £95 (LINK). As far as I'm concerned, the speed of Gameplay's delivery is next to none.

Game are selling them for £99.99 but they also do discount deals on a number of games you can get bundled with them (LINK)

Out of those three, I'd go for the Argos one as it comes with a second controller

I'm gonna change the name of this thread as it's becoming a general X-Box discussion thread - no thanks to me :D

Cool, cheers. For the goal horn thing do you just copy it to a CD-R and save them to the x-box hard drive?

Yeah, exacltly. You can rip audio tracks from CDs onto your X-Box and use them as soundtracks in certain games.

I've posted over at 2kSports asking where the heck NHL 2K6 has gotten to. I'm not expecting a response; in fact, I wouldn't be suprised if they went so far as deleting the thread. So I decided to take a screenshot of the post, too :D

Oh, Blackcats, if you do find an X-Box, I recommend getting one of these:

Link 1 or Link 2

The X-Box only comes with a composite connector (plus a SCART adaptor) and so the image quality is quite poor (blurry; especially with bright objects). Getting a proper RGB SCART cable has improved the quality vastly; the image is far, far sharper.

The adaptor in 'Link 2' (I just got that today) is useful as it connects to the hifi and also has an S-Video connector and digital optical connection if you ever need it. Whereas 'Link 1' is just the SCART connector.

Bought an X-box 8-) Bit concerned about the CD-R thing though, for those goal horns-I am not sure that my X-box will accept CD-Rs?

Any suggestions? Apparently the CD-RWs work best...?

I've used CD-RWs fine. As you have a new XBox like myself, you probably have a Samsung drive. I remember seeing a list of what type of media each drive can do (there have been three different drives shipped with XBoxes over the years).

I *think* (but I could be wrong) that Samsung one's do CD-R, CD-RW and DVD-R but not DVD+R.

You can identify your drive at this site.

How much did your XBox set you back and where did you get it from?

Possibly the most rash purchase i ever made ;) Got it from Woolworths for £100 with two games (both rubbish). I know I could have got a better deal elsewhere or online, but I was desperate to get it sooner rather than later 8-) I have now got to find a copy of ESPN NHL for the Xbox and buy myself some CD-RWs. I did try some CD-rs (for music), but I got the dreaded 'your x-box cannot read this disc...' message. I am guessing I have got the Samsung drive one, but I will use that website you linked to identify it.

EDIT: Yeah, the disc tray on mine has two holes in it

So you're going for NHL 2k5 rather than wait for 2k6?
