so far my 'best trade' was the very first one i attempted. As the Coyotes new GM, on a whim, i offered Derek Morris and my #1 pick in the 07 draft for Ovechkin, and the Caps accepted it. yay!

I initially offered that trade just to see what else they would come back with but they magically accepted! The kicker is that a week later Buffalo put Garon on waivers and now hes playing for Philly. So it was realistically a straight exchange Avery for Vanek.

Stepanov was a 28yr old, 3rd-4th liner capable of 30-40points and occasionally 20 goals.

That 2nd round Pick turned into Mitchell McClelland
Who has scored 60 goals 2x, 50 goals 1x, and 40 goals 2x.
And his last 2 seasons he has scored 122, and 121 points (60-62-122, and 62-59-121)

Backstory. I had traded my 2nd round pick at the deadline. I had my eye on McClelland for some time, but i figured he would go in the first round long before my turn.
When my turn did come up, I had more pressing needs then a winger so i choose a goalie with my first round pick, and then made the trade, hoping McClelland would fall to the 37 spot, which he did.

So far in my first season with the Sens using the Lidas2.1 database. Kind of a 3-way deal actually...

Originally the deal went down as Lee to LA for Harold and Hickey and then I turned around and traded Harold to Minnesota for Clutterbuck.

I'm currently deep in a playoff battle in my 3rd season managing the Oilers with the Lidas 2.1 DB.

My best trade in terms of best return on little payout was at the start of this season. Anaheim found themselves in cap trouble, so I graciously offered to take Cory Perry ($5.5M cap hit) off their hands. I offered Per-Age Skroder ($1M cap hit) and they accepted immediately. Skroder had played extremely well for me, so I was sad to see him go, but I needed a one-shot scorer like Perry. Perry scored 80 points in 69 games for me, though, so I'm pleased with the deal. If anyone is looking for some depth, track down Skroder and sign him - good 2way guy with decent hands (two 20-goal seasons for me on my 3rd line).

The best trade I didn't make was shipping out Shawn Horcoff. My first season, Horcoff's play was so inconsistent I made a few teams offers to unload him, but I could never get what I felt was a fair return. So I decided to just let him play and see how things went at the trade deadline. Well, didn't he catch fire in January and lead the charge to take my 11th place Oilers up to 5th place. We lost in the first round, but the next year, he was 2nd in team scoring and won the Conn Smythe. This year, he had 113 points and currently sits in a 3-way tie for the playoff scoring lead with 18 points in 13 games.

Jim Slater for Briere, straight up.

Alex Pietrangelo for the rights to Victor Hedman turned out to be an awesome deal for me given that Pietrangelo only just barely cracked a 20-point season while Hedman has had four consecutive 75+-point seasons and has never scored less than 43 points for me. (Let's not forget the two Norrises and the two Harts.)

I was the Rangers and I desperately need another RW besides Gaborik so I shipped on BD beacause he had high demand being such a good young player. Although he was good, I had Anisimov and Grachev biting at a roster spot as well as Tyler Arnason. I gave Arnason the 4th line role and Anismov 3rd line center to replace Dubinsky. Anismov got 20 goals and 18 assists in his rookie season playing on the 3rd line which is pretty good and Penner lead the league in PP goals and hits for my team.

Spezza was pretty easy to get in Lidas 1.1-3 rosters. Dont know why. But in these 2.0 its harder.

Umm, it was original db, where Spezza's PA was 195+...

, but, he was waived

to Rangers in 2008 and then Sens bought him again, and now they wanted rid of him.

I'm not a huge fan of completely unrealistic trades, so this is my best one (I'm Vancouver):

To Toronto:
Andrei Markov
Michael Grabner
2nd RD pick '10

To Vancouver:
David Clarkson
Gleason Fournier
1st RD Pick '10 (16th Overall)

Why this was awesome:

Markov was a deadline acquisition the year before to try and grab the cup (which I did). My depth at D increased substantially after the offseason with the signing of Kirill Koltsov (a cheaper O-Dman) and Jay McKee (a cheaper shut down D-Man). These two filled two holes much cheaper than Markov so he was expendable. Gleason Fournier is a 22 year old D-Man who is just under a PPG in the AHL and will hopefully be ready for the 5-6 spot when Mitchell/McKee retire and there are openings--he'll have at least 2 years to develop.

Grabner was playing well on the third line (projected for 20goals/17assists, but as a pure offensive player with poor defensive stats, I wanted a bit more of a grinding tougher 3rd liner which I got in Clarkson (14 shot, 18 aggression, 16 hitting). He did well in the playoffs that year helping me to another cup win going 5goals/7assists and +9.

The real money was the 1st RD'er @ 16th overall who turned out to be a remarkable Swedish C/RW with excellent potential and great stats (20bravery/20strength/16det/14work/20creativity/14anticip). The Peter Forsberg regen. I'm surprised he dropped so low.

I have no idea how this trade got accepted, but the coyotes really didnt want Maxim Afinogenov and they put him on the trade block.

This isnt no NHL trade but im playing as a OHL team and every time i go to start i just pick players to see who has what stars and if possible to pick them up... I kind of overpayed for this one player tho..

We made a hude overpayment to London Knights. We sent Mathew Sisca, Jeremy Smith, Dylan MacEachern, rights to Josh Dadic, 2nd in 09,10 and 11, to London Knights for John Tavares

then knights had a former icedog player who had great attributes by the name of chris desousa so a few days later i made this trade

We also made our last big deal with London Knights sending them Patrick Lee, Luca Caputi, Thomas Middup, rights to Kyle Lamb and a 3rd in 11 and 10. So in two trades we have traded 8 players including Jeremy Smith and 5 draft picks for Chris DeSousa and John Tavares.

After we made that big trade with London they just traded Jeremy Smith to Kingston for a 10th in 07. lol

McKee is an overpriced piece of junk, he won't play well for you.

Nope not at all after three years of develompent, he isnt even playing on the first line in the AHL. He might be a late bloomer. I shall have to follow him in Pheionx to see if he does any good. Also Maxim Afinogenov has 49 points (20+29) in 40 games this year.

Daugavins might have been toned down in Lidas Rosters 2.0 because I remember in an older version of the DB he would turn out really good but now he's got a -6 PA and doesn't seem to be all that much.

Playing with 2.1, my leafs were unsurprisingly floundering for 2.5 years mainly due to awe inspiring goaltending provided by Theodore and Gustavsson. By this point I had managed to build up a solid skater core with a good mix of scorers and checkers. I needed a goalie. I Dec 2010 I got the news that Cam Ward had gone down for 4 months. So I pulled the following:

To Carolina:
Jose Theodore
Mikhail Stefanovich (really tears it up in the AHL)
2nd Round Pick

To Toronto:
Cam Ward.

Next year, made it to game 7 of the conference finals. And considered to be a prime cup contender this upcoming season.

Maybe not my best trade, but I like this trade I just did. Using Lidas 2.1... I'm in February 2015.

I now have both Kovalchuk and Ovechkin

I can not afford to give Kovalchuk a new contract after this season becuase Forsberg regen, Messier regen and Hedman will all have huge contracts next season....
But this season I have a great team, look at my top 6 forwards:

Kovalchuk - Messier regen - Jagr regen
Ovechkin - Lecavalier - Forsberg regen
