They say it's play-off time, but i have a game in couple of hours. I don't understand :S!
It looks like you are in the 5-8 placement games, which means you are out of the running for the championship and aree fighting for placement. looks like your team won its first game, so you only need to win one more to win the round (its best out of 3) Games play in a little over 10 hours (assuming you are on the same clock as me)
Oh alright, just got it! :)
I sent you a friendly game challenge for monday since neither of us have a playoff game. (i lost my series)

Sorry, i had to refuse it as i had a tournament game planned on this date. And i don't remember your team's name, so can't send you challenges right now. Anyway, i'm already booked in August (just two dates left, but already set conditions in the automatic search engine for friendlies, so it'll be booked soon). Just give me your team name, and i'll send you challenges for somewhere in September ;)

Welcome to PowerPlay Manager! :) Don't worry if you're a bit lost right now, the first season is coming to an end, and it's actually time for playoffs and ranking games. Season 2 will start in approximatively 2 weeks.

Number one advice: read the guide!
Number two advice: re-read the guide!
Number three advice: re-re-read the guide! :D

Okay, then you should be set and don't ask the basic questions that are already answered in the guide. Sure, the guide is a bit long to read. We've tried to give as many usefull informations as possible there, so that new players can easily find an answer to most of their questions by themselves. So when you have a question, checking if the answer is in the guide will oftenly be the fastest way to get an answer at the beginning. Of course, if the answer isn't there, you've got the forums, the helpers, or even this topic to ask. :) (don't worry, the game is pretty easy to handle when you're used to EHM ;) )

Anyway, congrats on winning your 5th to 8th round :) So in next round you'll battle for 5th-6th places, which will determine the prize money you'll get from the post-season. If i'm not mistaken, game 1 of this series will be on tuesday, game 2 on wednesday, and game 3 on friday (if necessary). Then you'll have a very short off-season. A perfect time to have your training camp(s).

---

On my side, i'm making it to the Finals of my league and am now waiting to know who my opponent will be. No matter who it is, i'll have fresher guys than my opponent, so there's good hope for a title and the promotion that goes with it. I'm in the top-50 French managers in terms of team strength (44th as i'm typing), which is a high satisfaction in a community of approx. 700 managers, especially as i'm in league IV, the lowest French level of play. Can't wait for the Finals to start... I've got one more ass to kick twice! :D

oh no problem. I just saw your name pop up in the question and answer thread so I thought I'd send one. My team is Iowa Wild currently in USA III 10.

By the way, I'm really surprised by some people's attitudes in that thread. I really thought I should have won my last playoff game, even had the right counter-tactics, and out shot them 33-20, but their goaltender stood on his head and I lost 3-1. That's the way it goes sometimes. I don't understand people freaking out over a loss because they "think" they should have won.

Sent you 6 challenges, including my 2 remaining dates in August (finally not booked yet). I might have to cancel a few september games later on, depending on the upcoming schedule of the tournament i'm playing in. If that's the case, i'll send you challenges for further dates ;)

Yeah, we have a few guys with questionnable attitude (to say the least...) in this thread. And you might have seen the little battle i had with Resoperka a few days/weeks back. But well, with over 25.000 players, it's nearly a miracle that we have only 2-3 guys like him on board. Unfortunately, those guys are always the ones who make the most noise, which gives the impression there are plenty of them. But so far there's just 3: Memory (who i had a tough "battle" with last year... he's calm now :D ), Resoperka (problem nearly over... for now...), and another guy that i don't remember the name (think it's Eldorado, but not sure), but doesn't annoy people too much by himself, always waiting for another guy to jump in.

Thanksfully, there are a lot more interesting guys, both on this thread and within the various communities. Trueblue55 (Australian captain), Vlady (supervisor of the translators), Bruinsfan, Stan777, Mickey (GM), Eeoulo, Antsa (Finnish assistant), and many others are nice active guys on this thread. Tuttle (main founder of the project) is also a very nice guy, although you'll rarely cross him in the forums (the guy is busy ^^). Then all the communities have lots of good guys. I don't know a lot of US guys on the game, just cross a few ones in the Q&As topic, but it seems there are some nice folks too. Just too bad we actually have a hard time finding guys for the US national team support :( And no captain there so far (same goes for Canada).

At some point that's something I'd be interested in helping out with, though at this point I'm still trying to find my legs in the game.

Nice :) When you feel yourself ready, you know where to join me if you have questions ;)

Btw, it's effectively a good choice to find your legs on the game first. Because once you're assistant or captain, you receive a lot of questions from users about the game, so it's better to be able to answer it :D Eventhough it wouldn't be your main task...

I agree. My free trial starts today or tomorrow, and I'll probably get the pro-pack after that.

Good game, btw. for reference you faced the guy I consider to be my number two goalie, though he is only a point or two behind my top goalie, and i've been rotating in some younger players to get them experience and so my starters can get more practice time (those who play less practice more)

Pro-pack won't change drastically your comprehension of the game, although the team analysis is a usefull tool to compare your team to your opponents with more depth than just the stars ratings or overall team strength. Only datas that anyone can retrieve manually, but you won't have to spend 1 or 2 hours to do it all manually :D One click, and it's done!

Amongst the main advantages of the pro-pack, i'd place the automatic opponent search engine pretty high in the list too. No more need to spend countless hours finding opponents to play friendlies and therefore give experience to your prospects. You just set the conditions you want, and as soon as a team meets the conditions, your game is booked! Booking a whole month of friendlies doesn't take more than 5-10 minutes (although you may have to wait 2-3 days before all matchs are booked, but the engine does the work for you). And you can book friendlies 112 days in advance, instead of just 30.

The most usefull pro feature IMO is a combination of three features. Having multiple lineups, having multiple tactical sets, and having the planning feature. Fed up of changing your lines and tactics between league games and friendlies? Just make two different lineups, different sets of tactics, go to the planning and assign which lineup and which tactics you want for every type of game! Then you just have to modify your tactics and/or lineups when you feel the need. No longer on a daily basis. Add the automatic opponent search engine in the mix, and alterning between league games and friendlies could hardly be easier :D

Then there are a lot more features, like more stats (still needs more... will be done later on), or fun stuff like the possibility to have your own logo and jerseys, and many more. But to me, the most key advantages are the 5 points mentionned above: team analysis, more lineups, more tactical sets, planning for lineups and tactics, and the automatic opponent search engine.

Oh and last but not least: being able to access the game during match calculations is pretty nice too! (although none of the modifications made during that span affect the ongoing calculation, obviously). But well, you've got a full list of the pro features in the game, so needless to say more about it ;)

i swept through my playoff series and finish 11th... not bad after finishing 13th during the regular season. However, my opponent for a friendly for friday is currently split so i think that will become an open date once the schedule gets updated. I be sending out a few challenges and it'll be whoever accepts it first. If anyone wants to send me a challenge, please do once the schedule updates.

Oh... And is anyone the STL Saints. I've just received 11 challenges from them!?

I'm the Stockholm Aerospace in the French top division. I manage to stay in contention for the playoffs until the last 10 games, when injuries sideline my best center and my goalie...As I choose to take a "all out of the academy" approach, I will still have a problem at this spot and I'm lacking depth up front, as most of my "prospects" are quality defensemen.
However, I avoided the relegation round with an upset in the first playoff round. Quite proud of my first season, despite the fact that being an all formation guys will hurt in the long run. You improve so much faster with day trading that it Bryzgalovs me off.

Send you challenges for two friendies, gpelous.

Shadd, why is it that all job applicants are between 50 and 55 years old. Wouldn't it be great to start with an 30 years old and keep him in the franchise for a bit longer than those couple years? :-)

they would reach a too high level I think.in the beta you could have people in their late 50 reaching the 100TC as coach... so if you only take old players, you have to have a turnover. But on the other hand the hit on the wage is huge when you have a guy like this... but his bonus for training for example is invaluable...

@Selne: As Gpelous mentionned, it's about not having guys reaching too easily the max. Contrarily to players attributes, staff attributes do have a max. In stance, they are limited to 100, which means that a staff member will reach a max of 200 OR.

Staff members retire at age 61-62. Top ones in quality can reach the 200 OR in less than a decade, so it's better to have some turnover to force managers to renew staff. By starting at age 50-55, there's a good enough turnover.

Then sure, real staff members generally start their career around age 40. But if it worked this way in PPM, every single staff member would reach the 200 OR at some point in his career, the only question being when he'd be able to do so. One way to fix that would be to slow down the rythm on which the staff can improve. But it's already way slower than the players development curve. So slowing it even more would make it darn too slow! So the starting age of 50-55 is actually the best compromise. Not a perfect situation, not fully realistic either, but a good compromise.

---

On the results side, i've been crowned as French's IV.11 champion! :ohyeah: Time now to kick some asses in the upper level... :D

---
gpelous wrote:You improve so much faster with day trading that it Bryzgalovs me off.
Well, yes and no... On the short term, it's indeed a good way to improve dramatically. But on the long run, it's a good way to harm your team badly. The money spent to buy players has (obviously) not been spent on improving facilities. So the players bought may be good right now, but they won't progress fast, and will be just average or even bad players in just a few seasons. And by "few seasons", i mean just 2-3 seasons away from now... Plus, they bought players without having the possibility to scout them before buying, so they have no clue about what their qualities really are. And in most of the cases, they'll have a bad surprise, acquiring players with relatively low to average qualities. So players that don't progress fast, and who won't have good facilities to support their development.

So don't be widdled off. Those big traders may beat you right now, but by continuing on your facilities development, you'll beat them easily in just a few season, and will do so on a regular basis. They may have their 15 minutes of fame now, but they go the wrong way to build a dynasty.

I've done a long part of the beta and I bought, all in all 4 players : when you have a puck bag as a goalie it doesn't help climb the ladder.

I been looking at the market a bit recently.. just to see what's going on there, and i noticed there are a couple players with very low attribute and quality ratings who have been sold for ridiculous money.

Is it possible that there is a "ppm money laundering" !? Is it possible that some people create fake accounts just to send all the money to one franchise? :ninja:

Unfortunately, it's not just a possibility, but a real thing. Anywhere there's a rule, there are people trying to break the rules and cheat. But as Wildiowafan mentionned, every transaction is checked. And it's generally pretty easy to determined wether it was cheating or just plain stupid management.

When you see a suspicious deal, you can check the account of both of the managers involved in the transaction. Just click on their nick to do that. And most of the time, you'll see that their account is already blocked, so they've been banned from the game. If that's not the case yet, you can report the transaction as suspicious. Just don't abuse this feature though... Some people were mentionning barely every deal as suspicious, in an evident attempt to overload the GMs work to cover their own cheating. GMs aren't that stupid, and those guys have been banned too. But if you find something suspicious that hasn't been handled yet, don't hesitate to report it.

Indeed ^^ But well, actually, most of the goalies suck big time. So even a horrible goalie can actually look good compared to others. Won't be true anymore in a few seasons, when goalies will be a bit more developped. But right now, there's not a lot of a difference. My goalies aren't long term solutions either. But so far they can do a decent enough job to get me wins, so i stick to them and pray that a better one will come from the SA. If not, i'll look at the market in a few seasons. Just not now. I've got better plans to use my money.
Gpelous wrote:went to beat my ass shadd?
Well, my quest is the supreme title, starting from down low. So i'll have a lot of asses to kick :D But next season is gonna be difficult. I'll end up in III.3, and there's many good managers there. Just to name one, there's Turin, who's there from the start of the beta, dethroned me from the Pegasus Cup title this season, but couldn't reach the Finals in III.3 this year. So i'm most likely to have my ass kicked in season 2 :D Avoiding relegation will be the objective, although a playoffs spot seems possible at first sight. I'll just be looking forward to establish my team as a solid league III team. Then time will come when i'll be ready to attempt to move up to league II.
