I was playing this morning, desperately trying to keep my job with the Canadiens. I had just started the free agency period and managed to sign Brad Richards and Ed Jovanoski, as well as resigning Saku Koivu when...
EHM.exe has encountered a problem and needs to shut down
To make matters worse, I had turned off rolling saves. I lost two months.
I haven't had this happen to me, but I have had my game crash after I <alt> <tab> to the desktop or another application. When I do that, I can't get back into EHM and I have to use task manager to shut the game down.

Any idea why it crashed?
No idea why it crashed.
It obviously had been going for quite a while, and I had been back and forth to the desktop several times without incident. All I had running besides the game at the time was Foobar, my audio player. It takes up barely any resources, so that shouldn't have hurt anything.
I'll chalk this up as a learning experience and turn autosave back on.
I don't use the auto save either, as it creates annoying copies of the original all over the place (well, at least on FM). I try to save it fairly regularly though, although not more than once on the same day, as this used to corrupt my FM save games.
I've had to have three restarts because of crashing / save corrupt. Some of it was because of alt-tabbing, but stopping alt-tabs doesn't really completely take away the problem. Maybe the new patch fixed it. No crashes lately...
I autosave every two weeks, and don't mind the different names of the game, cause if it corrupts again, atleast I have some spot to continue from.
It only creates multiple save games if you use 'rolling saves'. If you turn that off and just use 'auto save' then it only uses the original saved copy.
Last night I fired up the game and was playing for about an hour. I had gone through training camp, scouted what seemed like every player on the planet, signed the best coaches and scouts available to me. Then...
I don't use autosave but I save all the time. If it's the off-season or training camp, I save about every week or so. If it's pre-season or regular season, I save before every game. I don't want to risk losing anything.
