The Blue Jackets announce that they have financial problem! They loose 12 millions per season! This is certainly the most surprising news of today. :-p

Eric Staal is on the injury list for one month. He was injure agaisnt the Sharks. A little bit of rest will be good for him he got an atrocious season this far with only 5 pts in 13 games.

Henrik Lundqvist is injured too and will not play tonight.

The Bruins re-signed Tuuka Rask to a new 2 year deal today. It's a one way deal averaging somewhere between $1.2 and $1.6M per season.

Not a bad deal. He takes some times to establish himself but now he is showing good things. With Thomas getting older, Rask will see more action.

That should leave the Bruins goaltending situation pretty well set for the next couple years. It softens the blow of Thomas' big contract. I believe it also leaves Rask as an RFA still at the end of his contract. I'm not positive though.

I did some research on Osgood and other goalies.
link: http://www.nhl.com/ice/statshome.htm#?n ... v-sts-main

Osgood is:
23rd in career shutouts at 50 games, 2nd of active nhl goalies

10th in career wins at 394, that's 2nd of active nhl goalies

2nd in toi of active goalies; 2nd to Brodeur only

14th in shots against at 18015, third of active nhl goalies.

He has more wins and less time on ice than Hasek

He is not as good as some goalies in save percentage, but like I said most goalies wish they sucked this bad. He is a good goaltender.

And that last comment is the only stat that relates to him...not his team. :-D

What that "He is a good goaltender"?

Seriously, how can a goaltender of this caliber be a 'bad' goalie?

We already saying it. The team in front of him. Do you think Brodeur will lead the shutout if the Devils weren't playing the trapt since 1 000 000 years? No i don't think so, it's the same with Osgood.

Ok, now we know which goalies are not the best. Opinions on who the best active goalie is?
What about Miller or maybe Lundqvist?

Yeah but that's like saying any goaltender is good because of the team around him.

What do you all think makes a good goalie? Do you have to be paid 5 million each year, play on a team that stinks and have a Russian sounding name?

What about Miller? It doesn't sound Russian to me. :-p

Selne here's your answer too. I really think Ryan Miller is in the best the right, media doesn't really talk of him but, where to Sabres are it's greatly because of him. The Sabres doesn't have the team the Wings or the Devils got to protect their goalie, they didn't play the trapt either, the are kind of offensive and they keep winning and Miller finish often with 35 and + wins. I think he is one of the best goaltender right now.

I personally think that Lundqvist is one of the best goalies out there as well, might be because he has been one my favorites since he played in Elitserien.

And his name isn't russian sounding either, it's swedish sounding. 8-)

Swedish names doesn't sound Russian. I don't know what you talk about  .

Best goalies are Lundqvist, Miller and Bäckström. Check Minnesota's stats and then Bäckström's. I can't imagine that any goalie has so good stats when his team sucks.

Osgood isn't good goalie cause he conceeds easy goals often. Last time i've heard that Bäckstöm conceeds easy goal was in 2004-2005 when he plays in SM-League and conceeds his teammates slow pass what come from opposites site. And that's years ago.

I don't think that Brodeur is overrated, cause he doesn't conceed easy goals. But his team has played defensively, so that helps lot, especially when Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer and Brian Rafalski played in played in team (those are superb defensemen, Rafalski and Niedermayer offensive defensemen but their +/- stats are very good every season).

I'd definitely put Lundqvist in the top 3 of NHL goalies.

Lundqvist is a logic choice too. He always have good performances when the Rangers got some difficulties and with Miller he is in the elite of the NHL. I always like him, but darn in EHM i'm never able to get him.

DId you guys see Lundqvist the other night in Vancouver? Rebounds galore. In bad places. This is apparently something that has afflicted him all season, and parts of last year according to Ferraro. Now...I cannot go and say I have seen a ton of him at all...as I have not. But...to put him as #1 not sure he has proven that yet.

Right now my top goalies are: (Please note: These are the guys considered teams starters at the start of the year. Others have stolen or are stealing jobs

1. Ryan Miller--I actually think he may steal a medal of a non bronze color for USA in February.
2 Brodeur--Aging, but still clutch. At least I think so.
3 Luongo--Bad start, seen it 100 times. Still gonna knock the lights out when going.
4 Ward--bad start with a lazy team--but we've been there before with him
5 Fleury--considering the system and players in front of him..Stalwart right now.
6 S Mason==young kid weak start. More potential than any goalie out there.
7 Lundqvist--rebound control issue. Still a dang good goalie.
8 Turco--Best goalie dman ever. Lapses in concentration kill.
9 Kiprusoff--Still good, but not clutch anymore. Every year in Calgary save % drops.
10 Nabokov--Just a goalie. A very good goalie.
11 Thomas--Style drops him off. I know he is good, but I hate watching his style. Does he have a style?
12 Leclaire--Solid goalie. Just needs to stay healthy.
13 Bryzgalov--Great start again. he will fade, but still be good.
14 Price--Please please stop partying and your rise up this list will be rapid.
15 Vokoun--Good solid goalie...bad bad team
16 Emery--Demons in check. Solid keeper. Promised land keeper? Not so sure, but good.
17 Lehtonen-I think he fooled a ton of people for a long long time
18 Anderson--Still not believing the hot start, but more than I was before
19 Quick--Quietly doing nothing but winning games and giving up 2 goals with a young team in front of him.
20 Khabilbulin--I just never believe in this guy. LIkely should be higher.
21 Backstrom--In my mind totally a product of Minny's system. TOTALLY, Terrible last night and in the 3 other games I have seen him this year. Maybe this changes.
22 Hiller--Just a guy. Filler. Good goalie, but not great.
23 Roloson-OVERRATED
24 Mike Smith--On a terrible team, not playing terribly well.
25 Dan Ellis--Meh. Nashville who cares.
26 Chris Osgood--We all know what I think
27 Toskala--_Gimme an S....Gimme an I...Gimme an E Gimme a V Gimme an E..Whatcha spell? TOSKALA.
28 Chris Mason--One good year, a few average years. Not that good. Just not. In TO gets ventilated worse than Toskala. Ick.
29 Theodore--My the mighty have fallen. I would have almost anyone in the league over him. TOTALLY CRASHES UNDER ANY PRESSURE. Love to see him in TO.
30 Huet--Weakest glove side I have ever seen. Horrible goalie to be your starter. Would not wish him on TO

Ryan Miller as number 1 wins the most ridiculous thing ive heard this week!! Lungo and Brodeur are head and shoulders above him! Even Lundqvist can put up a fight against Miller! Osgood below Ellis and Mike Smith...do I even have to go into that? You cannot seriously put Jonathon Quick and Craig Anderson that high either...they are both unproven. Anderson is having a good start but so is the whole Avalanche team! If you put these guys on this list...where is Onrej Pavlec? He is easily better than Jonathon Quick and your bottom 4. And ranking Steve Mason so high...weve seen one year of him!! Raycroft won the calder, would you have put him in your top 10? For all we know Mason could be the next Andrew Raycroft!

On reputation I agree...Luie and Brodeur are ahead of Miller. But right now..I am not so sure. Miller is on fire and he has been...and that is why I put him at 1. Brodeur and Luongo have both been off to poor starts. Miller is awesome right now.

As I said about lundqvist..have not seen him as much but did not like him the other night, and my Ferraro comments stay there.

Quick--Over the last year has completely stabilized the LA Kings. And yes, Ozzy below the other two for reasons mentioned in 100 posts above.

Anything after Goalie 15 is just an average NHL starter in my mind..really the order from then on in my mind is fuzzy. I don't care..they are just not that good from then on. Posted the order to do what it did...make people yak and post.

Read the top...Pavelec was not the starter in atlanta at the start of the year. Neither was Raycroft.

Steve Mason--I love him. Sorry but I do. And if he is the next Raycroft so be it. yet back in the day when Raycroft won the Calder...I was saying Raycroft is highly overrated.

Teemu Selänne has scored now 1221 points in his career, after last night he was tie with Jean Beliveau, but in better position cause he have scored more goals. Selänne is now 38th in career points.
