Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)

Hello everyone!

I am pretty new to this game, so I kind of stink, but I am doing a dynasty over at operationsports.com with the Nashville Predators using Lidasv1.1 rosters. I know nothing about tactics, and have zero insight into some underrated or cheap players who do incredibly well in this game, so anything like that would be greatly apprecaited.

I just made a trade for svatos, by trading away my 2008 1st round draft pick, the rights to alexander radulov, and (i think) dan hamhuis. Could somebody help me out with some tactics recommendations, as well as lines and some possible trade recommendations that might work out well for this team? In the limited amount of franchises I've played through so far, I tend to find that teams with awesome goalies always do well, even if some of those teams have really naff skaters.

If anyone could help me at all, I would be really appreciate. Thank you!

Btw brayden schenn is a rookie, he leads all rookies in points, tavares is a sophmore and had over 100 points in his rookie season last year for me. Iginla is my captain, with Lidstrom and Neidemayer as my assistants. I got ovechkin, hejduk, luke schenn, ohlund, and ryan miller from the fantasy draft (i got really lucky) and i finished in 13th place and got the first overal pick, and also traded for brayden schenn, and got lidstrom, nash and neidemeyer in free agency. i am currently in first place, ovechkin leads the league in points followed by iginla and tavares, and luke schenn leads all defensmen in points. I would use lidstrom more but he already is 40 and is slowing down rapidly, and i have him for a great bargain, so i mostly like to have him as a powerplay specialist

What are your guy's thoughts on Right Handed Shots in the lineup compared to Left Handed Shots?
Right now my forward lineup is 11 left handed vs 3 right handed. Ive been trying to get at least 1 RHS on each line.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

MKoivuFan, this is the thread for you.
If you put together an expansion WHL_team as you said it would be probably like an expansion team IRL. You would struggle to make the play-offs I think(I'm talking about the Lidas 1.3db).None of the WHL teams has real depth as the latest WHL-drafted players are not created. It would be hard the first two years ,I think. But it seems as a real fun challenge for you. I think you should go ahead and do it.

OK, I need some real help. Line are as follows :

Huselius-Brière-AK (not touching this one obviously)
Cammy-Lewis-Latendresse (On IR for 3 months, replaced by SK)
Sharp-Chipchura-Shanahan
Murray-Lapierre-Armstrong

Souray-Visnovsky
Streit-Komisarek
Volchenkov-Michalek

Nabokov-Halak (Price played 4 games [3-1], but I sent him down after re-acquiring Halak since he was the only one who could clear)

My major problem is that only my first line is producing, I've lost a big part of my second line's ES playing ability with the loss of Latendresse. My third line has major problems getting offense or defense. I'm playing overload because Armstrong and Murray take too many penalties (even though they are at easy AGR and I brought a high discipline Asst. coach).

If not for my tenders, I'm cellar-dwelling. I got my penalty trouble partially resolved with less 4th line time (basically 2-3 shifts per game) and a high-discipline asst. coach, but I just can't keep my scoring up with 0 secondary scoring.

For those wondering why I have so many youngsters, I lost my top 3 centers to FA (Zetterberg, Koivu and Primeau), I let Kovalev walk, couldn't get Markov under contract before FA and signed elsewhere.

Farm is pretty stacked with Tavares, Perron, Bouchard (Caps 2nd rounder in 06), Lucic, Neal on O, Fischer, Letang, Emelin, Marshall on D and Price in nets (with Benda being a dominant tenders since his draft year, playing in ECHL right now). Those are only my Hamilton players.

Advice on trades, strats or coaching changes, please?

If you are consurned about winning now, I'd say trade away some of your high demand young guys since its so in depth for a 1st line center. Briere is good, but if you could have him as your 2nd line center that would be domiant. The problem with your lines is you have good winers...but they need a good center to set them up. If you offer Taveras, Lucic and Price Im sure you could get a player of Malkin's caliber.

I've actually continued some and lost Trevor Lewis for 3 weeks, and Nabokov for 3 weeks also.

Managed to pull through without both with Tavares and Price as fill-ins (I think Price is something like 8-3), added Friesen through waivers and dumped Armstrong for a 3rd rounder, since he just can't figure out how to stay out of the box, and recalled Sergei to try to get some 2-way play out of my bottom line. My PK will probably drop a few %.

What mostly got me through is my incandescent first line. All players are averaging close to 1.5 points per game, all had point streaks during that time.

My second line seems to be putting it finally together with Latendresse coming back early from his injury, Lewis and Cammalleri are both doing fine (Cammy has 20+ goals on the second line with 45 games played, but he is darn inconsistent).

My main problem seems to be my D and 3rd line. I don't wanna move Shanny because he's a fixture on the PP in front of the net. I can't get Chipchura to shake off bad performances, but I really want to build my center line with him. Sharp is probably the most expendable of all my players, since he's not even averaging a 7 rating and is not providing any offense. Any advice on strats or personnel moves to keep Chips and get something out of this line?

On D, I'm having trouble keeping Komisarek and Souray on the ice, since they just find ways to get into the penalty or get thrown out of games. Michalek is underachieveing with 5 points in 15+ games and a -5 or so +/-.

Other than that, I'm doing fine. Any input would be awesome.

Interesting lineup. You will have trouble with the size of your players at the top two lines. So you need to work on your tactics. And I like that challenge! You should try an offensive tactic on the first two lines. I remember playing the Canadiens once.. with Tanguay still around. And he did very well as scorer. So if you have the cap room, get him back to replace old Shanahan.

I need some help with getting the best out of my lineup. Into my 6th season now and have never really found the form that my team is capable of. Best I have done is the 2nd round of the playoffs in my 4th season and have been ranked the 1st and 2nd best teams in the 5th and 6th seasons respectively. What I'm after is some tips on tactical suggestions for each of my lines. I've included my "depth" players as well in case anyone thinks I might need to move some people around:

Parise Carter Hossa
Omark M. Richards Tikhonov
Hall Toews Eberle
Benn Talbot Prust

Keith Chara
Vaananen Myers
Olsen (rookie) Letang

Nabokov
Wiberg (regen)

Depth players:
Kabanov (intended on switching him with Hall based on performance)
Jonathan Carlsson (rookie LD)
Hjalmarsson
Assorted regens with farm team

The 1st line always pretty good, at least 1 of them will get over 100 points each season. The 2nd line is new for this season but in previous years it has always sat below the PPG. Toews and Kane (recently traded) have been playing there the most. I like the idea of having 3 solid offensive lines (or at least 2 offensive and a 3rd that stays more or less even in +/-). Nabokov is now 39 or 40 and in his last year of contract; I expect he'll retire at the end of the season. Wiberg is a 19y/o rookie who is expected to be nothing more than a career backup. Olsen, on defence, could be decent. It's his rookie year and I'm interested to see what he does. An offensive defenceman.

Anyway, I'm open to all and sundry ideas and what to do. I'd really like to win a Stanley Cup soon, please!!!!

I am in February 2019 with somewhat original db with my Blackhawks and Sidney Crosby seems to be not interested continuing out with Pens. I send away Jussi Markkanen regen and 1st and 5th in 2019 for him.

Now I have centers as Tavares, Crosby and Handzus regen and a Czech center regen.

Tavares is later this year 29 earning 6,5 million euros with PA 171. (678. 301 G 608 A) (If I fluffed him up, tell me)

Crosby is later this year 32 earning 5,3 million euros with PA 198. [(1024. 488 G 689 A)Seems worse than Tavares]

I like Tavares as much Stars fans like Mo, so not willingly to let him go.

Also in my team taking their own bit of salary is:

Nick Petrecki (C) 30 later this year, 5,3 million euros also, PA 178. 718 GP in NHL, 63+297 with 8.41 from 9 seasons.

Teemu Pulkkinen (A) 27, 7,3 million euros, PA 185, 419 GP in NHL, 280+306 with 7.94 from 6 seasons.

Craig O'Connor (future C) 23 late this year, 2,46 million euros, PA 186. 230 GP in NHL, 60+107 with 7.70 from 3 seasons.

My salaries are 4,1 million euros under the cap. I may too sell some one with over 1 million salaries for 1st pick in 2019.

I need help, fast. If I don't have something great before June, I trade Crosby for 1st pick and some core center.

I always set my goalie to stay in the net and passing safe (unless he is like Brodeur or Turco with the stick)

First off i just like to say i'm a LONG time reader of these forums and thanks for all the great info! But this is my first time posting.

Now to the question,

I'm playing as the leafs with default database, and i should say i don't control the baby leafs either.

I have a problem that in a few years after starting i only have one to three players in the AHL. Mainly just my first and second rounders getting some time in before moving up to the NHL. What i'm looking for is how do you guys fill your AHL teams? Do you trade to fill it? sign free agents? Hold on to lower round picks for AHL players?

Any AHL tips would be nice thanks all

Uhm...you draft to fill it. What are you doing with the rest of your picks ? Sure you sign the odd young free agent or aquire some prospect, but mostly via drafting. And you should probably control your AHL team, that way you have full control over their practice schedule and their ice time.

All of the above, but mostly I sign almost all of my draft picks when they are due. Sometimes I find older Euros that might make it to the NHL after acclimating themselves in the AHL. I'm also always in control of my AHL-affiliate and sign guys with that team to have them competitive and not just for developing my draftees

I mainly used picks 3-7 in trades, to tip the balance so the AI would trade with me. Ill start trying to keep them, and running my AHL team. Thanks for the quick replies!

I didn't want to start a new thread for this so I put it in this one. Here is the situation:

I control the Detroit Red Wings. The problem I am having is consistency with my top players. I don't expect great performances from most of the roster, guys like Draper, Maltby, Lilja, etc., etc., are not stars and I am accepting of the 6-7 average ratings from them.

However.....

My stars do not seem to perform consistently and it is making me crazy. I expect an average rating of around 8.50-9.50 from Lidstrom, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg. Yes, they will have the occasional off-night, but these players are bonafide NHL stars and I expect a lot from them. Instead, I get 7-8 ratings for Lidstrom and Zetterberg and the occasional 6. Datsyuk is a little better, but he doesn't always perform consistently either.

What am I doing wrong? When Lidstrom is not even in the top 50 scoring defenseman, and guys like Dan Hamhuis have more points than him, there is something wrong.

I generally use the following tactics (I tend to use the individual tactics for each player, rather than as a team):

For example, Lidstrom would be

Mentality - Normal (sometimes Offensive)
Aggressiveness - Easy
Backchecking - Very Hard
Gap Control - Very Tight
Puck Pressure - Very Heavy
Hitting - Hard
Tempo - Normal
Passing - Creative
Shooting - Barrage
Dumping The Puck - Rarely

I do this with each player, trying to play according to his strengths/weaknesses. For instance, Hudler is Easy Hitting and Zetterberg & Datsyuk tend to be excellent two-way players with puck control skills but not as physical presence.

I also use unit tactics for each line, including power play and penalty killing.

Sorry for the long-winded post, but I am disappointed in some of my stars results and want to know what I am doing wrong. I don't expect them to lead the league in scoring, but they should be in the top tier of scoring and average rating, especially when Martin Gelinas, Martin Erat, and Mark Parrish lead the league in scoring and ratings.

I know this is a little late, but I hope it still helps.

First off, if you setting each player's tactics your really going to need to watch your lines. (ie. if your going to have a full Defence style centre and and sniper on the wing, there just not going to do that well together. ) I would go main with line tactic's and maybe just change one or two items for a player. For example if you have a 2nd line set to speedy offensive style, but one or your wingers is part power forward too, then turn up that players hitting a bit.

Second, i almost never set the tactics for the first 2-3 lines all the way left or right. ( Very Hard for example ) I find this tires them out quickly, I mainly use the far left or right tactics for PP or PK.

I feel that if you use a more consistent line tactic with small changes to fit the tactic with your players you'll see there ratings go up. There are lots of great tactics right here in these forums so have fun messing with your team

Maybe need anoter Center or too find out somethink later that you really need but
at your point its time too work on the Trainning ...
