Im with you here, and I also think that it's pretty boring to have the players doing so well IRL not even making the team, and need to be sent back to juniors instead. Ill boost them a bit for next version, at least so they can grab a spot in the first squad.Canuckk wrote:Okay, thanks. And yeah, I understand why you generally base it only on previous season stats, but even so, some of the players I pointed out - Cheechoo, Anderson, Tanguay, Hemsky, etc - I feel should still be changed based on previous stats alone. Anderson really had a career year last season and I feel was underrated without even considering his fantastic start with Colorado. Cheechoo's scaling back has really been necessary ever since the original DB, since his numbers have just gotten worse and worse every season, to the point where he puts up third-line stats most of the time. Tanguay, even with his injuries last season, was not the offensive force that he is rated as being in this DB, and has struggled to stay consistent last season as well as this season. Hemsky has always had trouble being consistent, so that's not really new.Lidas wrote:Thanks for finding the problem, and also for finding the solution. I'll work on it and your other suggestions when I get back from work today (Gotta go soon). As for the underrated players - the reason is that they are all based on the 2008/9 season and not the current one.Canuckk wrote: Yeah, it should work for that as well. Also, there are actually many players currently in the DB that are eligible for the NHL Entry Draft in real life but are UFAs at the age of 17-19 in the DB. If you go to Player Search and look for UFAs and sort by age, you'll see there are quite a few of them. Aside from Cam Fowler, there is also Stanislav Galiev as well as many others who end up being signed by NHL teams right away (I've seen several play NHL games at 17). I think this can be fixed using the method I described above, but I guess it'll take a bit of time.
One more thing: I usually don't comment too much on player ratings, but Jonathan Cheechoo is one that I just have to bring up. He WAS once a 50-goal scorer, but now he is reduced to a washed-up third-liner - I know his ratings were still toned down from last season, but I feel that they are still far too high based on his abilities over the last 2 seasons. His wristshot of 18, for example, is still far too high - I'd reccomend maybe a 14 or 15. I mean, the guy has talent, but he just can't seem to get it together and be effective, and it's been the case for over 2 seasons now, so I think a lowered rating is due for him.
I also feel guys like David Jones (Colorado), Steven Stamkos (Tampa), Ryan O'Reilly (Colorado), Craig Anderson (Colorado) and Michael Del Zotto (NYR) are underrated at the moment, while Alex Tanguay (Tampa) is somewhat underrated.
Couple of other notes:
*Ales Hemsky should also have a lowered consistency rating - it's currently a 14, and yet he is a very streaky player in reality.
*Rick DiPietro's current injury proneness rating is far too low - I believe it is currently an 8 or 9, when it should be around a 14 or 15.
*Steve Bernier's current influence is a little too high at 14, while Henrik Sedin, Willie Mitchell and Ryan Kesler all have influences that are slightly too low (especially Henrik Sedin's, considering he is currently wearing an 'A' when his influence is lower then Daniel Sedin's at 10).
I understand that young players in the midst of breakout seasons or on streaks that aren't proven yet should not be jumping the gun and overrating them based on very little time to prove themselves. However, certain players are clearly underrated to a degree that is, even in the worst-case scenario for a player (as in a really bad season for that player), they are still going to out-perform their in-game counterpart any day. I think Del Zotto and O'Reilly are 2 good examples of this. Del Zotto, as of right now, is rated to be a player who still needs several more years of junior and minor-league seasoning before breaking into the NHL. In reality though, Del Zotto has already proven that he is not only NHL-ready, but that he is ready to produce at a high caliber. Even if he were to tail off right now and finish with maybe 30 points (really a worst-case scenario for him right now), he'll still out-perform his in-game self any day. The same thing goes for O'Reilly - right now, his in-game counterpart is rated as someone who wouldn't reach the NHL until about 22 or 23 - and yet not only has he managed to secure a permanent roster spot at age 18, he has managed to produce at a near-PPG pace and maintain a huge +/- rating.
Now I'm not saying that these players need to recieve huge rating boosts now - all I'm saying is that they need at least a slight boost in their ratings to reflect their downside for this season. I don't think the PA needs to be changed for any of these guys right now, but I think their CA and some of their attributes should at least recieve slight boosts in order to reflect reality a little more without risking overrating them in the case that they tail off as the season wears on. I'm more or less trying to reach a compromise so that both upside and downside of each of these players is reflected in their ratings.

I have no idea why this happens... but its a game, I dont know how it's coded, so I cant change it - but if every report was perfect and give the same result every time it would be pretty boring.CircularTheory wrote:Quick question:
I did a scouting report (twice with available scouts) on my Wild prospects and heres what I got:
Tyler Cuma (-8) = 5-6 potential
Nick Leddy (-7) = 5-6 potential
Matthew Hackett (-7) = Third string goalie
Marco Scandella (-7) = 5-6 potential
The Wild top prospects seemed to have the proper potential ratings but it seems the reports give a different evaluation. Why is that?
But also to add, there is something wrong with Tyler Cuma. Cuma misses alot of games on the Ottawa 67's, not from injury but as a healthy scratch when in real life, he is the captain.
Same with Cuma. He has good potential and good ratings, so I dont know why the 67ers wont play him. I cant change how the game works, I can just edit the data its based upon.

Maybe they are trying to boost the young player's confidence by giving them letters on their shirt. Either way, 7 seems to low on Greene, so I pushed him up to 10 for now.empach wrote:Matt Greene of the LA Kings could use a leadership boost. He's wearing the A and I remember reading (on TSN's site I think but I can't find a link) when they signed him to his extension that they believed him a potential future captain.
However, Kopitar and Brown are the Captain and other Assistant and they both have low leadership ratings so it could just be the team has picked young leaders that they want to grow into the roles.

Swedish Allsvenskan!
First of all I wanna thx Lidas and all of you guys that been working so hard for this great game.
The error i found is that Swedish allsvenskan have 16 team, it should only be 14, Huddinge and Nybro its not in the allsvenskan this year.
And Oliver Ekman-Larsson in Leksand was drafted round 1 not 31

You are right, Klingberg should be -7.thehab wrote:ive gone over every prospect to change a few to the way i rank them, and the one that i noticed that was off according to how u rate them is carl klingberg of the atlanta thrashers,he is rated 6.5 c by hf.com,and in the game is rated as a -8 ...he should be a -6,-7 at the very best.he was the only one that i noticed, prolly just a typo.other then that,i have a question.i noticed that u said u didnt implement any of the contract extensions.im just curious as to what harm that would have caused,im considering going over it and doing them all,but not if its gonna mess something up.also i just wanted to say thank u for all the work u put in,i know that just doing prospects and tweaking ratings has taken me 10+ hours,so the amount of time u put in is just crazy.also wanted to say thank you to everyone thats helping me out with my tweaks by posting ommisions on here.
As for the extended contracts.
Lets take Milan Lukic as an example.
This year he has an 850K caphit, and its the final year of his contract.
He has signed an extention worth $4,083,333 over three years.
If I should take the average caphit over four years it would be (3*4.083.333+850.000)/4 = 3.275.000 per year instead of 850.000 per year, which would have a huge impact on Bruins' already tight budget.

I actually saw an interview with him when they discussed this. He doesnt even know himself if it should be Pääjärvi-Svensson or Svensson-Pääjärvi...Aquilani wrote:His name is Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson. Canuckk can you upload your db where you've fixed Cam Fowler? *Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers is now just Jeff Deslauriers (he dropped half his last name over the summer as well)
also,im not 100 % sure,but im like 90% that its magnus paarvarji-svensson.........not svensson-paarjarvi

True. But still he got Pääjärvi-Svensson on his shirt and on NHL's site it's like that so i think it will be like that forever. Called MPS too.Lidas wrote:I actually saw an interview with him when they discussed this. Re: Swedish Allsvenskan!
League structure cannot be changed by Lidas. It is harcoded in the game, so Lidas decided to promote Huddinge and Nybro to Swedish allsvenskan league, to meet the total count of 16 teams there.Andy79 wrote:The error i found is that Swedish allsvenskan have 16 team, it should only be 14, Huddinge and Nybro its not in the allsvenskan this year.

As for the drafts, Ekman-Larsson was drafted 2009, but the game starts 2006, so in order to have him drafted at all I needed to work around it like that. (2007 draft is round 11-17 year 2006, 2008 is 21-27, and 2009 is 31-37)

With todays versatile players, I doubt that anyone else except for himself and his coach knows his best position. I did some changes and additions based on the players you mentioned.thehab wrote:just went over positions and found a few that seem to be worng.i didnt go over everyone, just looked at team reports and these were the ones that caught my eye.all the correct positions are from yahoo, which is usually pretty spot on for positions due to the fantasy pools.

Ive got no idea. I have made them retire from being players the first day in the game, but I cant stop them from retiring as staff.poiklm wrote:Hey man, very amazing job on the DB. I am new to the game and am impressed. One quick thing though, the two carolina coaches who are inducted into the hall of fame (Ron Francis and Barasso) then retire from coaching as well after the first season. Is there any way to fix this?

Anyone ever use http://www.eliteprospects.com/ ? A great site for finding transactions in most leagues around the world.
What are the leagues that need some help, I will have some spare time to do some research for some of the other leagues that are not up to date in the game.

Is it possible that these guys just got bad luck in the random potential? When a player has a -8 potential that means his PA is going to be randomly determined when you start a new game and his potential will be somewhere between 130 and 160. Well 130 is a #6 defenseman in the NHL. It looks to me like these guys just got bad random "rolls" when the new game was started.Lidas wrote:I have no idea why this happens... but its a game, I dont know how it's coded, so I cant change it - but if every report was perfect and give the same result every time it would be pretty boring.CircularTheory wrote:Quick question:

The one thing I'd like to see if we can look at for a future version of the database is the cap hits for this year. Some players are being counted for too much of a cap hit and it's putting the teams over the cap to start the game. For example, the Bruins' Rask and Wheeler don't count for as much against the cap as they're currently set in the game. Other teams are facing the same issues. I'd just hate to see a bunch of good players get waived or sent to the minors because they put the teams over the cap when they're actually playing for the team in real life.Lidas wrote: As for the extended contracts.

A few other avs things as they're the only team i've really looked at so far:
TJ galiardi is listed as a LW on the Avs website but often plays centre, he is just a centre in the game
Kyle Quincey has played LD with Hannan but RD with Liles on the PP so maybe give him that capability? Also Hannan has played RD a lot, often with Quincey. Duchene has played left wing on the PP with Hejduk ans Statsny. Wolski should also have Centre as a secondary position, he played it often last year.

Re: Swedish Allsvenskan!
I have one ok idea to fix those. You have edit only players age, but maybe you (or somebody else, cause there's lots work) can fix draft years. For example, Erik Johnson is 1st pick in 2006, so why not edit him to be 1st pick in 2003 (in 2009-2010 db)? There's lots of work to edit all draft picks, but game could be lil better that way. Only if you find someone who wants to edit those, but maybe it's better make to next years db.Lidas wrote:I have written about the league structure in the readme.Andy79 wrote:First of all I wanna thx Lidas and all of you guys that been working so hard for this great game.

As for the drafts, Ekman-Larsson was drafted 2009, but the game starts 2006, so in order to have him drafted at all I needed to work around it like that. (2007 draft is round 11-17 year 2006, 2008 is 21-27, and 2009 is 31-37)

I've simmed a bit through the current 2.0 database and have to say KUDOS again to Lidas - the realism is exceptional!
Having gone through a couple of seasons now, I'm concerned about Martin Hanzal for the Coyotes - IRL he is the Coyotes' shutdown forward and is one of the best defensive forwards on the team. He rolls out against guys like Thornton and other big dudes and has shown tremendous defensive skill. In the game, however, his checking and other defensive traits are very low and don't develop very much at all. Maybe raise his checking attribute or at least potential?
Also - having observed Ulf Samuelsson at the Coyotes' rookie camps over the offseason I strongly believe his coaching style should be switched to "Technique-based." It's not that big a deal if you set up practices manually but if you set EHM to have the head coach run practices Ulf is ALWAYS slotted as the conditioning coach, which just doesn't jibe with his real-life coaching technique.
Having said all that, I'm LOVING 2.0 and I think once the tweaks are made for 2.1 it's going to be hard to improve on. LIDAS FTW!
