Xbox 360 style achivements for EHM?

Post by drewst18 »

Hey...just got an idea for a new aspect of the game.

What if we did a board wide competition where you have a series of tasks to do. Some are easier than others and score you 5 out of 1000 points. Others take 5/10/15 maybe even 20 seasons to amount and will be worth more say 75-10. We can make it out of 1000 or 2000. If possible find a way to include it in the users name like a post number, just do a score.

The achivements could be something like:
Win a playoff series by sweep - 5 points
Score 30 goals with a 7th round pick - 15 points
Win back to back stanley cups - 10 points
Win a Memorial Cup, Calder Cup and Stanley Cup - 25 points.
so on....

Just an idea. Could add something new to the game. This could be exactly like the challenges for all I know, haven't looked into those much, just an idea

Interesting idea but it would require a heck of a lot of screenshot to prove these achievements. If they ever made a new version of EHM, I'd love to see something like this though.

BTW, the Challenges aren't like this. They're based on your season stats. Check out the Challenge forum and the Challenge scoring for more info. We'll be starting up a new challenge in a little over a week.

I've been on a FM forum that uses this principle, basically achievements are set, then when they are completed a screen shot must be posted to prove the fact it is completed. Then someone unlucky has to update teh scores of everyone's "EHM Points".

I'll volunteer to help if needs be! :)

You'll volunteer to check all the screenshots and keep track of everyone's points?

So now we just need to figure out a list of achievements and point values to go with them. drewst18 started with a few.

Also, I would think that these achievements should be new ones and based off the same version of the database. It would be pretty lame to see someone using a database that they've "tweaked" to make their favorite players into superstars. It would also be kind of lame to see somebody who already has a long term game going just post a mass of screenshots to show that they've already earned all of the achievements. Do you know what I mean?

I'm with you there mate, all the way! Maybe an EHM Achievements forum section could be opened? Then in there contain sub forums, for say Junior Achievements, Career NHLer Achievements and Hall of Famer Achievements, to split them up and make it easy to find various ones due to difficulty?

I'm sure something could be done. I don't know about new forums but maybe a sub-forum in the Games and Competitions forum. Then maybe threads for each type of achievement.

I'll mention the idea to Archi (he's been quite busy working on the site re-design) and get his feedback on the idea. I really did like drewst18's original idea but didn't think any of the staff would be available to manage it. A volunteer makes that a bit easier.

Like I said I would volunteer, and I am saying about the new forums due to the amount of achievements, that way one thread can hold one achievement, after all, some will be completed by a large amount of people. But again as you said, speak it over with Archi, sure you will decide what is best!

yay!! I had a good idea =P

Well database wise I would prefer Lida 09/10 2.0 but I would be open to different ideas, but everyone should have to use the same database.

A couple points/ideas... The achievments should range for many different leagues. Incoparate different reps and abilities, and try and make the achievments so that they have little to do with team building through, cause its so easy to rip of the A.I (or use the rules of the challenges)

Also we could break up the achievments into different sections;
Scouting (Drafting)
Tactics (Player Records)
Team Building (Team Awards/Records)
International

Some more ideas:
- Draft an Unproven rep player and get him to become a star
- Win an olympic gold medal with a low level national team (Britain, France, Hungary, etc)
- Break Wayne Gretzky's record for points
- Take a relagation (Division 1 Country) team and win a medal at world championships
- Pass the Montreal Canadiens for most cups alltime (addon: with a team who has never won a stanley cup)
- Have a player 100% fight winning % (Minimum 15 fights)
- Win a stanley cup with an 18 year old goalie or a memorial cup with a 15 year old goalie
- Win 5 World Junior Championships in a row
- Take Great Britain to national rank #1 (they are lowest playable team)
- Win RoY with a player drafted in third round or later
- Win the Calder and Hart trophy with same player in same year
- Lead league in scoring, goals, assists or plus mius(which ever) with an undrafted player
- Hire a hall of fame player as a coach and win a stanley cup
- As a CHL GM have a player drafted 1st overall
- Win Selke and Hart trophey in same year (same player)
- Win AHL Regular Season MVP and Conn Smythe trophey in same year
- Break Teemu Selanne's record for most goals by a rookie
- No player plays under 7.5 avg rating for a full 82 game season
- Finish season with no players with a (-) +/- rating
- Win a stanley cup without losing a game in playoffs
- Get 3 consecutive shutouts
- Score 50 goals in 38 games or less (to start a season)
- Have an undrafted player make the hall of fame
- Take the team that finished last the season before and win the presidents trophy and/or stanley cup
- Lead league or team in points with a defenseman

Just some ideas, if anyone has anymore feel free to let us know

Build a team that has only players which you've drafted and win two Stanley Cups in a row (trading not allowed).

I like it! Keep the ideas coming. One thing to keep in mind when coming up with achievements you've go to think of what screenshot(s) would be required as proof.

Sounds like real fun!
Well, we would have to trust peoples honesty for this system, just like any challenge. An excel spreadsheet with all the achivements and ability to mark cleared ones, and put in the names of the collected screens (to keep track of everything) would be nice for every player to have.

This sounds like a really fantastic idea! There's a lot of good suggestions in here; as B72 said, keep 'em coming.

Thanks Reynaldo for kindly putting your name forward to run this. I think this is something that could be run by the community rather than having to have a Mod/Admin run it because it doesn't involve having to access the Admin Control Panel or the server's database. Perhaps we could have a small group of approx three or four users who run this? Then if someone gets too busy to run it then somebody else can step in.

I think to start with this should just take place in one of the existing forums (i.e. Competitions and Games Forum). If it really takes off then we could consider dedicating a new sub-forum to it.

I think we need to keep things simple. We should just have the one screenshot to prove an achievement; otherwise it'd start getting complicated. It would be extremely difficult to introduce rules for users to abide by (e.g. the Challenge rules) because there would be no way to prove from one (or even several) screenshots that a user has either abided by or understood the rules. Best keep things simple. I think a lot of this will have to be done on trust so we'll just have to trust they play with an unmodified version of Lidas 2.0.

I take it that users will win the achievement regardless of which team they play with? So winning the Stanley Cup with Minnesota will result in the same amount of Achievement points as user who wins it with Detroit? Or would there be a list of teams that would be exempt from the Achievement points?

This reminds me of something that we ran for EHM 2004 and 2005: We used to have a records thread where users would post a screenshot to prove what record they had broken (e.g. most PIM, GAA, etc in a particular league). The competition stalled because it was just on a couple of Mods to update the thread with the new records. I think if we'd gone for community moderation (i.e. a small group of users responsible for moderation) then I think it would have worked better.

This is a terrific idea!

It would be pretty easy to cheat by just bumping up your player's attributes, but I think that most people here are smart and mature enough to realise that cheating would take away all the fun so I don't think it would be much of a problem.

I'll have some European league achievements:

Win ECC and the league championship in same year
Get your junior drafted to NHL in first overall
Take control a team in Finnish Suomi Division and win SM-liiga.
Be a titleholder in Olympics, World Cup and World Championships
Win promotion
Win the championship using only domestic players
Win the championship using a domestic team (including non-players)
Sign a player that has "Superb" reputation
Sign a player that has "Star" reputation

Don't worry about what you've already done in old games. When we kick this off if will only count for what's been done new games starting at that point and using the new Lidas update.

So where are we on this one? Is it just a matter of getting some volunteers to run this and then drawing up a list of achievements and points?
