ECHL Contracts

I'm not very familiar with the details of the ECHL, so this may be a dumb question...

Why exactly can I not negotiate player or staff contracts? What I mean by that is, whenever I offer a contract to a staff or player, I am always locked at whatever salary the game defaults to(changes depending on the status I give the player), and I'm always locked at whatever length the game defaults to, which is only one year for players, and a max of two for staff. At first, I thought it was just how the ECHL worked, but I'm beginning to think that if the league really worked like this, no GM would come out of it a sane person. The one year contract lock thing is leading to me having to resign every single player... every single year... year after year.

And I don't mean that players are only requesting these contracts, and won't accept anything else... I mean the game is physically locking my offers to only one or two years, and locking my salary options to a status-dependent default. And I should also note: This isn't die to my finances, because it has happened since day one and continued no matter where I was with finances.

Yeah, it's the same way in my game...

I'm not sure why it should be like that but then I also don't know much about the ECHL's rules either.

My game does the same. I think the weekly salary cap for the ECHL may have something to do with this but i am not sure. A echl team cannot spend more than 10, 850 a week. Don't hold me to this though.

I follow the UHL a little bit, which I think you can consider fairly the same as the ECHL, and I know its very rare to see players signed for more than 1 season at a time. So maybe its a rule or something.

I think its really dumb because a lot of these teams change every season, and there is never any consistency.

There are 3 ECHL teams with in a hour from me and as far as i know they resign every year. Kind of stupid but i think it is just how it goes.

Well you should be able to resign them, and on my game I can offer Free Agents in the middle of the season a contract for the current year AND the next year.

However I dont think you can offer 2 years in one contract, in real life in most minor leagues UHL, CHL, ECHL and also in the EIHL in the UK leagues dont offer more than a year very often.

I'm a bit late to the game on this one, but I'll confirm that ECHL contracts are always for one season only. Players in the league are very transient, as are NHL/AHL affiliations.

I have a question about the salary cap in the ECHL. I am playing as the Utah Grizzlies with a cap of 315K, i am 8 games into the season(NOV 9th) and i am operating 77K over the cap. I was wondering how long i can keep playing over the salary cap before i have to reduce it or if i ever have to?
