Actually that's an old problem I should correct one of these days... quick answer they will still work just fine in the game. But the .ehg files in your folder if you have duplicates will show instead. We only recently realized that was an issue and I haven't renamed the sets yet. So you just need to trash the .ehg versions of the players starting with those letters and you'll be fine. You don't need to then rename them all to get them to show.
Edit: This should be easiest to do by sorting your file view by date. That makes it very easy to see if the .ehg versions you have currently in that letter range are original or recently created/downloaded additions
The explanation
why though is far more invovled that it seems it should be but if I explain it then there's a better chance other people might see the response and have possibly a related question answered too.
The game will acknowledge files with .ehg, .png and .jpg for player pictures. The .ehgs actually
are .png files, it is just SI's special code for their images.
In order to view a .ehg file in say Photoshop you have to rename it so it ends with .png instead of .ehg first. The initial project was based upon the NHL pics that came within the game itself so we had to rename them to resize them and put them in the 'card' format. JeffR (he's a moderator at SI's board) and I worked on those during testing and I did like O through T.
When we re-collecting the set we had a gap that happened to be in my name range so I filled it from my 'working set' backups to make it available asap. I had them all saved by letter in backups and those files were still .pngs. So that's why they are the only ones among the set that are .pngs not .ehgs.
At the time we didn't know that files with .ehg would display instead if you have a card for the same player and one is a .png and one is a .ehg. So at the time it was a non-issue and now it's kind of a
