Waddell got schooled once again. Guys like Oduya are a dime a dozen, and his cap hit is almost 4m. Bergfors is a nice young player, nothing more, nothing less. Cormier is one big question mark at this point and the first rounder won't really hurt the Devils since they also swap 2nd rounders and Atlanta's 2nd will be close to NJ's first anyway.

Yeah player's like Oduya can be found on my Rec Team. :-D The Devils also received Anssi Salmela, who's probably just Oduya but younger...

They've also swapped 2nd rounders... Which is good for the Devils too...

Wow, I surely didn't expect to see Kovalchuk land in New Jersey. I mean, they weren't the frontrunners in the battle for him, and they don't seem as a team that would go after this kind of players. Interesting, very interesting. Well let's see how that turns out.

If Kovalchuk signs with New Jersey – and I agree with Getz, why shouldn't he? – I think this deal is a win for them. I don't know much about Salmela, but letting Oduya go isn't that big a loss for the Devils. And the prospect being Cormier... good move from Lou.

Salmela's comeback to Devils. Salmela is only 3 years younger, and he is more 3rd line d-man and maybe 2nd pk and sometimes pp. Oduya is better in checking and he hits harder and maybe he will play in 2nd line and 1st pk in Trashers.

I really didn't hear much about New Jersey being in the running for Kovalchuk until the deal happened. Just goes to show you how much stock to put into all of the trade rumors we hear. I'm wondering what some of these other teams were offering if this is the big deal that the Thrashers took. It doesn't impress me much. I'm just glad the Bruins didn't over-pay to get Kovalchuk.

The way the Bruins are going. I think they want both Hall and Seguin... 9 straight losses. Whats going on?

We need a top forward and a top D. I don't know that they'd take both Hall and Seguin. :-p

I hear you though. They're a mess! I think there are a few contributing factors to their current slump and overall terrible season. The first thing is the injuries to key players right off the bat. We lost some key guys right away and they never seemed to be able to get any momentum going from there. Savard and Lucic were out for long stretches and it's almost like they're just starting their seasons now. They're not in mid-season form. And by then the team was already struggling, so you've got guys trying to get themselves started while the rest of the team is already a mess. It just isn't working. Plus, I think they really over-achieved last year. They played well above their abilities. And then there's the team character. They lost some guys that might not have really made a difference on the scoreboard but I think they were the glue of the team. Everybody makes a big deal about Kessel leaving. Sure, he scored 36 goals. But the other guys on the team were scoring too. I think the loss of players like Axelsson, Yelle, and Ward might have made a bigger difference.

You've been unlucky that Halak was in the goal yesteday or your Bruins losing streak will be stop at 8. They certainly deserve the win, but Halak was strong.

Atlanta basically got 3 1st round picks and an NHL 4-5 dman for a 6-7 dman, and a top line winger and a 2nd round pick. In my mind, this is very similar to what Boston got for Kessel.

So....yeah Atlanta got screwed as Kovi is better than Kessel. Also NJ 1st round pick is going to be 25-30 and Atlanta 2nd is going to be 40ish. Not a big change for Lou there.

However, I think most teams dropped out of the running because they were not allowed to talk to Kovi or his agent, before making the deal, because Waddell is a complete moron.

However, Waddell still did better than Jacques Martin with Bouwmeester..

Have you watched the Devils since 2005? There's no trapping anymore.

Great deal by the Devils. Brodeur is 37, going all in this season will be the right decision by Lou even if they're swept in the first round.

I can't imagine what Brian Burke must be going through. No father should have to bury their son.

The deal is awesome indeed, the Devils completely rob Atlanta. Even if they don't play the trap anymore, when they play agaisnt MTL, i never watch the game because there's no offence at all it's boring as hell, now with Kovalchuk with them i think i gonna watch a little more. :-p

Flyers pick up EHM fave Ville Leino for Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and a 5th rounder in 2011.

Maple Leafs stop the Senators winning streak in style, with a sound 5-0 victory. Giguere with two straight shutouts to start his TML career, Schenn gets his first two goal game, and #81 pots two as well.

This is the style of hockey that this team has to play if they are going to succeed. I don't want to make premature assumptions, but mayhaps their season isn't quite over yet. :-D

Canucks played good hockey in Beantown tonight, if only those silly Bruins aimed their shots somewhere else other than right into Luongo's chest. Rask played really well, which I have a love/hate relationship for. I really like the guy, so I always wish him success. But I also remember that we gave him up for Raycroft, and that will forever burn.

Kudos to Don Cherry for putting the spotlight on the kids in Colorado, they really do deserve a lot of credit.

Great sports day tomorrow. Bruins vs Habs is always good, they play at noon tomorrow. Then it's the Super Bowl, go Saints! :joy:

Carolina trade Niclas Wallin to the Sharks along with a 5th rounder for a 2nd round pick.

And the Bruins finally snapped their losing streak! Rask gets a shutout too.

Just over the weekend I started hearing rumors that the Bruins are shopping Thomas around. Of course, I don't put much stock into rumors until something actually happens.

I agree, Danny. I would have preferred that they snapped their losing streak against Montreal on Thursday though. :-p

What do you think about the Thomas trade rumors, Danny? I can kind of see a couple teams possibly being interested. He's got a big contract though.

I feel bad for Bob. He has not been the same since his daughter died. Originally he was an extremely strong GM with both Dallas and MOntreal. Since that incident (at least around that time) he has seemed to have the weight of the world on his shoulders. It has definitely affected how he did business.

And you know what? Although the Habs are not the Flying Frenchman of old...they are still a pretty darn good hockey team...6th in the East is nothing to sneeze at. It is not as if they are the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers Toronto Maple Leafs.
