20 games in, and I have conceded most goals in all of NHL. 83 goals in 20 games... :dunno:
I'm with you on that one, Lidas. Trust me.

I just had a game that pretty much sums up this team and its form so far this season. It's game 11, and the Caps have managed to score nine goals against me, and I still won. Here's the link, for those of you interested. Last five games we are 2-3-0, 21 GF, 30 GA.

I'm pretty happy with the offensive potential I've got here, and we have few problems getting the puck in the crease. However, it is literally banging the head against the wall, as the lack of a good goalie is enough to cancel out all we produce up in front. To hell with a good goalie, even a decent one would do, yet in this very game we lose JDD for... 4 months. So that's probably it. Time for Dubnyk and Pitton to show if they've got any balls, or else... Taylor Hall, anyone?

I've finally completed the pre-season. The team has not played well. I sent Brule,Pouliot and NIlsson to Springfield. They need top-line minutes and I can't offer that with the Oilers. I also sent down Dubnyk to get games. I am going to ride Deslauriers like a donkey!

I sent O'Marra, Brule, Potulny, Dubnyk down. My first game JD-D got the start and shut out the Flemmes 2-0. Wow. And I went 0-0 on the PP, Calgary went 0-12. I kept Nickerson and he beat the daylights out of Regehr.

I am with that - considering the same myself! They play, or he does SO much better than anyone else...

still in preseason, fixing the farm team - man do they have a ton of big contracts!

Hemsky out for a month :(

Squueked out an 8-7-5 record over the first twenty, but it was a doozy. Managed only 6 points in the second ten (1-4-5) under Dubnyk/Pitton. I never thought I would long for the heady days of JDD :)

Finished preseason, going 4-6, ending with a thrashing from LAST YEAR'S Bruins, lol. We are playing, however, like this year's team, giving up leads all over the place... rrrgh!

My lines going into the season are (with Hemsky out for 3 weeks):
Cogs-Gagner-Penner
O'Sullivan-Horcoff-Comrie
Moreau-Pouliot-Nilsson
Radunske-Stone-Pisani/Stortini

Souray-Visnovsky
Smid-Gilbert
Grebeshkov-Staios/Strudwick

Sent Brule down to get good minutes.

Gagner had a great preseason, with 12 pts in 7 games hopping between 1st and second lines. Penner had 11 in 7 games, and Souray was 8 in 8.

Radunske and Peckham, of all people, had the best training camp, so I rewarded Radunske with a contract and some time, while Hemsky's hurt - let's see what he does with it. Peckham may be my first injury callup. Not too confident in Pouliot, as he's had some bad games - hopefully Moreau can calm him down.

I've also signed 4 Euros to come over next June, push for roster spots (and maybe replace trade pieces).

seson 1 recap

Finished last spot in west. Had a few good games including a 9-3 win over red wings.

Linus Omark was impossible to sign and played superbly in russia.

Cogliano- Gagner - Brule raped bad ass and got springfield to the final in calder cup but lost 4-2 in games.

Draft.
first 3 picks
1. TAylor hall left winger, future 1st liner
2. Stephen Jones blueline prospect
3. Petr Straka. nice winger

offseson 1-2

Tryed very hard to get a new keeper. Made offers to all teams with keepers under age 30 but all got rejected. I didnt even get counteroffers back. Toronto was all over Smid after a strong seson in Springfield, we countered their offer to get kessel back and they accepted cogliano, smid for kessel.

In Free agent hunt i offered many contracts to keepers and defenders with demands under 2 mil. 3 players wanted to come to my Oilers : G Toskala, G J.Gustafsson and D Paul Mara. We gladly accepted Toskala in to our franshise we the motivation hes and experienced veteran and know how to play in the net in NHL. Gustafson felt weaker but mayby with an better upside in the long run.

So seson 2 Oilers reinoforcments where Toskala,Kessel and future NHL players Hall and Jones.

seson 2.
O sullivan started of with a 3 months injury and some small injuries on my weak defence made team bad in periods, but sometimes i started to win games i thought i had lost.

after 47 games we are placed 10th in west with only 3 points to a 6th spot.

Future planning:
-Gagner, Päärjärvi,Brule gets alot of attention and its gonna be hard to to trade em away for defence or keepers who my Oilers need big time. All 3 are still in AHL and putting up big numbers.

This is how AI teams value Gagner now :
caps offer

Interesting offer for sure, but keep in mind that a player needs to be on your team for at least 12 months before you can trade him (Päärjärvi-Svensson).

JDD got hurt, but only for days though. The "Deslauriers injured" news almost gave me a heart-attack. :help:

Penner is my 2nd line center. He's doing pretty well. He's got 25 points in 28 games. He could be doing better though. I might move him to RW and move O'Sullivan to C.
toddpaul wrote:Wow. That's a shock, as a back up? He's tearing up the Q for me, hopefully play in the WJC. The Oiler's goalies are awful, though.
Yeah, Oliver Roy is looking good in the Q for me too. I originally figured he was junk but he might have a future. No way would I bring him onto my Oilers roster yet though. Preseason is one thing. Regular season is a whole other animal!

OUCH! That's just brutal! Dubnyk is bad enough but adding Pitton to the mix? That's a lock for last place.

Nickerson sure does look like a tough SOB. What does your defense look like? Did you decide to sit Staios or Strudwick in place of Nickerson?

I would kill to get to sign one more decent PKer to secure my PO spot! JDD haven't done that bad, although he is a bit too inconsistent.

Defense-

Souray-Visnovsky
Smid-Gilbert
Grebeshkov-Strudwick
Nickerson

Actually using 7 defense for the 1st period Then I switch off and move Strudwick to wing if Nickerson playing at least a 7 rating. If Nickerson is only playing 6 rating I bench him and leave Struds on the blueline.

Goaltending--How can it hurt to try to use Roy? He is not going to be my future starter (at least I do not think so) and he is playing WAY better than Dubnyk. I expect all 3 of the goalies to get a few games in. Not a strict rotation but likely will look like:

JDD-JDD-Roy-JDD-Dub-JDD-JDD-Roy

.Just something to keep them all playing and all somewhat happy. Roy is not very good right now, but he has numbers similar to that of Dubnyk in attributes already. Just do not see a reason for me not to use him. Especially considering my other option is Pitton if there is an injury. So signed Roy and will keep him with team. Dub will shuffle back and forth for the year as I need him to play games for me, dependent upon his morale. Just see no harm in using Roy in this situation.

We shall see--if he struggles he goes back to junior. If not, good for me!!

Right, forgot him. I knew I did something wrong. I did not have the game up, and it was not making sense to me either. Now that I have it up I have just done this:

Souray-Visnovsky
Grebeshkov-Staios
Nickerson-Gilbert

Smid is playing Wing for this one (thought I would try it), and likely Nickerson only plays P1 no matter what his rating is and Smid will come back to blueline in P2. We shall see. Scratching Struds.

D is going to be a revolving door. Nickerson is likely only going to play every 2nd or 3rd game (played Game 1, sat game 2) just to keep him fighting and happy. :-D

Visnovsky-Souray
Grebeshkov-Gilbert
Strudwick-Petry
Staios is by far my worst defender and is pending around 6.00 so I brought up Petry. Souray is the top D-man in the league in points, goals, shots, ice-time, av.rating and second in hits so I can't complain about his game. Visnovsky is top five in points, goals, assists, ice-time and twelfth in av.rating of D-men.

Finally got JDD back, along with Gilbert and Comrie who both missed 10 days with separate injuries.

This team can't win in a darn shootout. I have more OTL's than regular losses, which is helpful in keeping us in contention.

i play him on 2nd line RW mostly , with Comrie and O sullivan.

Penner
year 1 28g+43a -7 8.44AvR
year 2 27g+51a -13 8.59AvR

clearly one of my best players and he adds strenght to my weak wingers.

Hows Eberle doing for everyone? He's got 50pts in 30 games for me in Regina, plus he played in the WJCU-20, 10G-3A-13Pts in 7 games.
