Any suggestions for a hockey-related poll for this month?

Even though we've only had five votes (), I'm quite suprised at the number of people who feel sorry for Bert.

Bertuzzi got off the criminal charges with a slap on the wrist. I can only hope that the NHL will be tough when they finally get back, and giving him 1 or 2 years off(not counting the lockout). But as far as I am concerned, he should never ever be allowed to play.

I really shouldn't get involved with this subject but.....what the heck...

Anyone who has ever played any sport has at one time or another 'snapped' This is true of all athletes is almost every sport, and when you consider that we're all human, I don't think you can say, "A professional player should know how to keep his cool better"

In 'heated' games like that Col/Van game, several factors need to be considered - with the foremost factor being the atrocious refereeing. When the Canucks scored two goals to make the score 5-2, the refs decided to give the Canucks back to back penalties. One Avs goal later and it was a foregone conclusion that the game would spiral out of control.

In a day and age when the NHL is trying to shove parity down our throats (this is why obstruction has been tolerated over the last 6-8 years, so the naff/expansion teams can have a fair shot at winning). The refs are told to keep a team in the game. I best stop there - lest I start bashing the ridiculous two ref system.

Anyways - back to Bertuzzi. The Avs are blowing out the Canucks and everyone (Crawford AND Granato included) is losing their cool. Contrary to popular belief, Bert did not come off the bench and make a bee-line for Moore. The replays show Bert chasing Moore up the ice - fair enough....but ask yourselves one question....what made Bert snap and actually deliver the punch? I'll go out on a limb here and say that Moore said something to him. If you think about it, that's most likely what happened. Something verbal was said and it triggered something in Bert and he snapped.

Any talk of a lengthy prison sentence and banning him for life are ridiculous.

And finally - if the NHL would step up and actually make it a policy to protect its star players, this situation could have been avoided. This is what happens when non-hockey people are involved in this sport. The fact that a borderline 4th liner named Steve Moore could take out Markus Naslund without so much as a penalty being called on the play is absolutely disgusting.

I know that the Moore hit on Naslund was 'borderline' and technically, it may have been a legal hit but in my eyes, it shows us everything that is wrong with the NHL. The league needs to protect its star player!

Gotta love the long rants from the new guys huh :)
