I know it's a long time from now, but I've been thinking of doing something for the All-Star break next year.

Something like an annual "All-Star Challenge" that we can have a little bit of fun with during the all-star breaks. The way it could work is this:

I manually create an off-site league, probably here in the forums or on the sister site/records site I'm working on. The league will be a Roto-style league, beginning 3 game-days before the All-Star game, and ending 3 game-days after, plus the All-Star game itself - giving us 7 days of competition. As for our teams, that's where the All-Star bit comes in: only the players on our teams who have been selected for the All-Star game will earn points for our teams. From there, it'll basically work exactly how our Roto-league did last year in terms of the standings, and whoever leads at the end of the 7-day challenge will be the All-Star Challenge winner. And I know the teams may end-up lopsided with some teams having more all-stars than others, like we saw with the Olympic representation Manimal posted, but that could be part of the challenge, like we just saw in the Olympics. Some teams (batdad's team ;) ) could be loaded like Canada, whereas other teams could be lacking like Latvia. And we'll just see how well our All-Stars compete.

It's not revolutionary, but I think it could be something fun to do with our teams during the All-Star break.

Good idea? Bad idea?

No Lack of Excitement From TBLHL Playoff Race
Friday, March 12, 2010, 1:42 AM

PHILADELPHIA, PA - With three days left in the regular season, the race is on for the final spot in the Minstrel Memorial Cup playoffs. Philadelphia find themselves falling behind as they continue to struggle for points against Lake Alajarvi and their strong goaltending. A shutout from Miikka Kiprusoff, and a lone goal against Chris Mason allowed the Bald Uakaris to post a comfortable 0.48 GAA on Friday night, strengthening their 7-2-3 score over the Commissioners.

As Philadelphia becomes a Relegation League candidate, the door is open for the Newbies to hang on to their current claim of the 8th spot. After Thursday, they lead season-long relegation-favorites Caerphilly in a tight 5-4-3 matchup. But it's a slim lead for the Newbies, and they know they'll have to work for every point as the end of the regular season approaches.

The Newbies, however, won't find any fanfare from the Phanuef is Enough crowd, as they hold a similar 5-4-3 lead over the Vikings going into Friday. It's a lucky opportunity for Phaneuf, however, as their playoff hopes come only from a rare 4-4-4 tie against Chilliwack on December 6th. This tie could prove to be the key into the playoffs for Phaneuf, if Caerphilly can draw the upset by handing the Newbies their 13th loss of the year.

Stinson--I just looked at things and it appears to me that there is a possibility that Chilliwack misses the playoffs, and both Marsac and Phaneuf are in.

When Phaneuf wins their last game they go to 9-12-1. Chilliwack loses and they are 9-12-1. Marsac wins to go 10-12-0. Identical record for Chilliwack and Phaneuf tying for 8th.

Those two only played to the tie...they did not have another game against each other. My guess is Goals for becomes the tie breaker for the season as well. In the case between Chilliwack and Phaneuf...Phaneuf has 30 more goals than Chilli...thus giving Phaneuf 8th place and making them my rival for week one.

It appears that this is exactly what is happening as well. With just Sunday evening games left..Phaneuf and Marsac are winning, and Chilliwack is losing....

All of this is of course dependent on your Philly team losing...which they are.

Wow...talk about interesting.

Yeah, I'm not sure about how Chilliwack-Phaneuf officially works-out; ESPN doesn't seem to account for that much tying. They only have one tie-breaker listed for playoff seedings, which is the season-series between the two teams... which really doesn't help much when the two teams in question tied each other during the year. :dunno:

I guess we'll find out soon enough, 'cause you're right - it's close to happening.

Doesn't it go off Rotisserie points then. I'm guessing that is why Karlstad is ahead of me. In Rotiserrie, Phaneuf has the edge by 9 categories to 3 over Chilliwack.

Actually, Karlstad is ahead of you because he leads the season-series between you two (he's 2-0 against you this year).

I am confused. Any way I see to break the tie between Chilliwack and Phaneuf comes up Phaneuf. I have a feeling that the ESPN site just gives us the head to head tie breaker...then goes by alphabetical order. I wonder if CatchUp changes his name to AAA is enough if he beats out the Marauders. If so...that would suck.

As for the MAsterson--I voted for Backa..reason being the beginning of the season when Vasteras and I were constantly playing with our rosters. Plus I like Karlstad...I beat em up bad all the time :-D :-D

I'm not sure there's a way to tell what they did, unfortunately. And I was wondering about it being alphabetical, too - I noticed during the year that there were some tied teams who had a split series, and they seemed to end-up in alphabetical order.

Meh, I would have no problem negotiating with you...if you stopped asking for Iginla and Luongo for Jannik Hansen and Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers.

Killer last year, one stupid monkey this year. In this time of season I would have preferred him to play rather than to sit aside with his necktie on.

Hmm..maybe you should trade those players you have who are not able to be counted on for the playoffs Kuulapaa. I believe Getz has a standing offer for all players who are superstars...read above. :-D

I have a bad feeling for my team right now. They haven't been playing well lately and now I'm falling behind. Still, the gameweek is young and there are lots of games to be played. Perhaps there is some good FA available

You have a bad feeling? My entire team has taken this week off so far. Horrible. But thankfully I am winning because Chilliwack is even more horrible.

Hey Eric..how does it feel to have your former players score 3 goals, get 1 assist, score a shortie, a PP and GWG against you all in one night? :-D

Good ole ESPN... I edited our Bill Masterton poll to show what the trophy is for in the subtitle, and I think it reset the whole thing - wiping the current votes.

No problem, though, the votes were:

Graham Black Ice: 2
Christoffer Backa: 3
Daniel Ahlund: 1
Write-in: 0

Total Votes: 6

Voting still open till the end of the playoffs.
