So to make it more clear the teams still available are:
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh

Funny two teams in the playoffs that no none wants.

And we're done! DJP19, do you want to finalise the template draft response? If we do it sooner rather than later you can give people the time to think about what they might say in their replies.

And I don't think we've come to a decision on when this'll start or how we'll get around the time-difference issue?

For time difference issue, my vote goes towards giving everyone a window of 2-3 hours to place their pick. We'll have to establish a start time in a certain time zone on a certain day and then each person has 2-3 hours to pick. If it means some of us have to get up at 0100 to pick, then that's just what'll happen.

I also suggest stopping the drafting at the end of the 1st Round to recap and then restart the clock at the same time 24hours after the end.

Thoughts?

Additionally, to avoid people having to get up at odd hours of the night/morning...whoever is running this can accept lists of players in "priority order" that act the same as a pick. For instance, it's projected that I have to pick at 3:00 am eastern time...the night before, I'll just PM whoever and say:

"When my pick comes up, I want one of these guys, in this order:

Kirill Kabanov
Stanislav Galiev
Vladimir Tarasenko
Alexander Burmistrov
Roman Berdnikov"

Something like that would probably work...

The draft order and template is all at the website posted on page three. People will post their picks here and I will update the site.

I take it that the draft order is just based on standings as opposed to how it's really done (which would require the playoffs to finish)? No big deal, it just changes things for a team - like, say - Washington. Who will pick 30th in this draft but I believe they will select 26th at the actual draft...

You can have Anaheim. It doesn't look like it's going ahead and i'm quite bored of it all before we've begun. :-D

The organization on this draft is really moving along. Should have this mock draft for 2010 done by 2011. That way Hensel gets the right guys in the right order, and will look super smart. :-D I kid I kid, Hensel. I kid. I meant DJP. :-D

It's my fault, I joined up and just killed all the buzz. Funny too, since I'm the one with no first round picks.

Yep. Wait like another 20 days or so til DJP shows up.

Sorry to be running this, but whoever has the first pick just take him here. Then go until someone who is never around has a pick and it kills the draft. So curious to see how long it will take to die off. :-D

Just checked - Sir Hensel last hit this thread on April 23rd. On that fine afternoon, he wanted to give it 'one more day' before he gave the big kickoff.

I vote this doesn't get more than about 6 picks in. And even that will take 3 weeks. :joy:

As soon as we hit somebody not being around, I am going to announce that I traded up in the draft. Make my pick, and then retire from this thread.

Doing that twice, of course.

Wow, a lot of haters in here! haha

I'm ready to go but maybe the intent was to wait until after the SC? To determine who would pick last??

I'm going to get this started, so we at least get 1 draft pick in:

We debated pacakaging the #1 pick and Sheldon Souray for Alex Ovechkin, but realized that would never happen. But, seeing that we're possibly losing either Pisani or Comrie, the odds are that we'll need an offensive threat that's not afraid to be physical, to mesh with Cogliano and Gagner.

So, with that being said, we'd like to announce that with the number 1 selection in the 2010 NHL Draft, the Edmonton Oilers will select:

Taylor Hall, Forward, Windsor Spitfires (OHL)

You can't go wrong with either Taylor or Tyler in the number 1 spot, but what impresses me is that he as won at the league, national and international level and he's a game away from winning the Memorial Cup again. Since November 26th, Hall has a point in all but 2 OHL/CHL games and that kind of offensive firepower is something that the Oilers desperately need. He's not afraid to get dirty or sacrifice his body to make a play, but he can play the finesse game as well (just as the Brandon Wheat Kings about the sick goal that he scored that not only faked out the defenseman, but the cameraman as well).

He was also taken by AK Bars with the 89th overall pick in the 2009 KHL Draft back in June, but I think he'll play in the NHL this upcoming season. Just a hunch that I have.

I'll be the TSN crew here, if I may:

This is a slam dunk, no brainer for the Edmonton Oilers with all due respect to Tyler Seguin. Taylor Hall has been dynamite for the Windsor Spitfires in just about every game. At 16 years old, I saw this kid play and I thought, "ya know, I really doubt that I'm gonna see a better 2010 draft eligible player" - and I firmly believe that to be the case then and now.

Total package player. Great skater, he goes from 0 to 60 in about 2.9 seconds (that's 97 KMH for you Euros). I rated him 10 out of 10 in terms of acceleration, speed and balance. He can stop on a dime and give five cents change. The first time he steps foot in the NHL, he may be one of the 10 or 15 fastest skaters in the league. Great offensive juggernaut. Wonderful stickhandling, silky smooth moves, and he gets into the board battles and comes away with the puck. High level of passion, determination and drive. People questioned his playmaking ability - so he set out to improve it. how about 66 assists this season. And his play in the playoffs is nothing short of dominant. You note, those last four characteristics are very Sidney Crosby-esque. He's determined, he'll improve any weakness almost instantly and he's a big time player. And while I do see a little Crosby in him, if you want to see a player that he resembles you young kids go out and get some footage of Glenn Anderson of those old Oilers teams. Taylor Hall has a lot in common with Glenn Anderson (off the top of my head, I believe Glenn scored nearly 500 goals in his career - I think 498 or 499, so not too shabby).

He's ready to play in the NHL next year, he's conquered the junior ranks. Be excited Edmonton, this is a player to build around for a long time.

Michael's best available:
Tyler Seguin - C - Plymouth (OHL)
Brandon Gormley - D - Moncton (QMJHL)
Cam Fowler - D - Windsor (OHL)
Erik Gudbranson - D - Kingston (OHL)
Brett Connolly - LW - Prince George (WHL)

Boston has a big pressure pick coming up. This is a pick (of a couple) is one that will forever be compared to Phil Kessel. We all saw how anemic Boston's offense was without him, let's see if they get someone that will replace the firepower lost.
