I might be alone on this but I always thought it would be cool if you could get hired as Head Coach only. You'd have input, but not control, over the roster but would be in full control of the bench and tactics for games. Sometimes you'd have a GM that would override you on who dresses or tactics, but hey, that's life as a Head Coach, right?

Asst Coach wouldn't really be necessary since there's really not much to do, unless practice is expanded enough to keep you occupied as Asst Coach.

Scout could be interesting. GM/Coaches could assign you to a country, continent, or league, from which you'll be given a list of games you could "watch". You'd have to manage your schedule to watch as many games (or as many of the top players) as you can, or be assigned specific teams/players to watch by management. You're recommendations would affect how the team signs/drafts, and your performance would build your reputation, allowing for better jobs in the future.

Again, not really a necessary addition to the game, just an idea I've had that I thought I'd share.
Good ideas! Assistant coach would be an interesting option, perhaps as a way to climb the career ladder to become a head coach and/or GM eventually. Scout would be fun too, but I suspect that would involve a lot of other options that aren't currently in the game (traveling to see games, interacting with other teams and players, travel expenses, etc.).

Another thing I would like to see is an easier way to locate free agents. Perhaps a button titled "UFA" next to the other buttons under the GM drop down? One should not have to navigate through 3 or 4 menus to find free agents.

Thought of a few more things:

Football Manager has arrows in the profile view showing recent attribute changes, like this:

Image

It also has a monthly training report compiled by the assistant manager reporting on players that have been progressing well and poorly in training, both really help you get a better view of how your players are developing, who's doing well, who might need a different approach and who might be at the end of his development or in decline. I suppose for EHM you could also have a report from the assistant GM on the players in your farm teams and a less detailed report from your scouts on your prospects in junior/college/Europe.

Another thing I really like in FM that I'd like in EHM is the "skin colours" screen in the preferences that let's you alter the text colours in the game and alter the attribute thresholds. Obviously not a high priority, but it's a nice thing to have.

That fourth defensive pair is there just in case it's needed. You can leave it empty, and play only 3 pairings, or dress a 7th defender if you like, like many European teams do.
Tampa did that alot last season aswell, not sure if they still do....
Marc-André Bergeron was a 7th defenceman for much of his time in the league as well.

Echoing the call for an editor, maybe starting with an in-game player editor? I don't know what the plan is for this so I'll keep it at that until I learn more.

One of the things I like about EHM is the somewhat trivial details about players, such as primary/secondary languages, favorite teams/teammates and multiple nationalities. It'd be cool to see this expanded upon, maybe with something like an offseason home. Also, has there been any consideration for family ties? Players having kids or brothers? That would be excellent.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but I'd really like to see the "Game Summary" screen added to the match screens again. We had it in EHM2007 and it seems to have been sacrificed for the sake of space in the new game. I liked to look at that screen each game to get an idea of how much my team was hitting, what their PP and PK did in that game, and stuff like that.

Also, I'd like to have less clicks to get to the practice screen. I look at that screen constantly. I check it after every game and make adjustments and I'll also check it at some point on non-game days.

Hey ! I would like to have more interaction with the media (press conference, interviews ...) and also with the player. The player could be happy after a good comment of the coach or being mad after a bad game or trade rumors. "mood"

-Maybe add some other language like french because i'm not very good in english :\

-The captain needs to have a bigger role in this game .. exemple : help young player to be a part of the team or give a boost to players with good performance on the ice.

-The possiblity to apply to be the one who have the draft event at the end of the year and also the memorial cup for junior leagues. (all star game too, winter classic)

-In the playoffs, having a page with a grid like this :
Image

-And my biggest wish is to have a possibility to change any financial issues like the tickets price, hot dogs, jersey, season tickets .. V.I.P and others.

Managing your draft picks/prospects is a bit unwieldy at the moment, so I'd like to see the following added at some point:

- a page/screen dedicated to your draft picks, so it was easier to get a handle on what you had in the 'war chest' for the upcoming drafts.

- a view added to the GM Manager 'home' that listed your draft picks, your blue-chip prospects, prospects playing outside of the NHL (or whatever your league is) etc.

- a monthly report from one of your assistant GMs on your draft picks, BPA (best players available) in the minors, and the status of your prospects (ie, highly rated prospect William Nylander scored 5 goals, 8 assists for the Marlies in November).

There should be the ability to retain salary in trades, like in real life NHL.

would like to see players who retire not be deleted and have their stats/profiles still viewable. (especially in the draft screen)

If possible I'd like the game to use hex codes for colors rather than predefined colors of EHM 2007 (Red 1, NHL Blue 2, etc).

It would just add more accuracy to the color schemes for each teams title bar.

I think you should change the "NHL Player of the week" "NHL Best offensive player of the week" "NHL Best defensive player of the week" and just go with NHL Three stars of the week, makes it more like IRL and also makes it so we have 3 stars, now NHL Player of the week is the winner of one of the other 2 things :P

Not sure if this has been posted or if it's possible, but I'd like to be able name your C's and A's at the start of the season, so if they are in the lineup they are automatically assigned the letter. Many times over the years I have dressed my captain after an injury and forgotten to add him back as a C.

Being able to match lines up as you wish. Admittedly, there is a fair few options it gives you, and you can force any combination by changing your lines, but I don't want to be changing my lines for just one match (or maybe even just a period)

For example, if you have it set to only play the top 3 forward lines, if you want to use line matchups, one line would have to go against 2, that's not possible.

Also, the ability to match defensive lines against opposition forward lines and vice versa would be cool, but I think that's getting quite complicated

I'll second the shout for assigning your Captain and Alternates in pre-season. I think when I copied the Rangers Callahan/St Louis trade on NHL 14 it even left me with just the three 'Alternates' as in real-life as well as we'd signed over our Captain. Have it like FM so you can assign a series of alternates as well, so you don't have to manually assign new captains if someone is injured/suspended or traded.

Dynamic Rivalries would be good; we've got set rivalries in the database at the moment but would be interesting to see a particular team develop a rivalry with yours depending on results and games between them over a period.

Was thinking (having watched a fair bit of hockey at the weekend) that there could be a bit of 'colour' added to the match engine in terms of incidents? Things like:

Scuffles/crowding around the net after a save/halt in play? Maybe a line of commentary that could forshadow a rivalry or two guys dropping gloves later in a particular game?

Guys being waved-off of faceoffs? (maybe have a slider/instruction for how aggresive your face-off taker is, too high and he runs the risk of jumping the gun, too low and he won't win any? This could link in with the player's Faceoff stat, with higher technique allowing them to be more successful for less risk). You'd need to consider an alternate face-off taker when putting your lines together maybe?

Too many men on the ice penalties (maybe another setting for your tactics; how quick your line-changes are, too fast and you run the risk of a penalty, too slow and you'll be left with too few players, again perhaps better players/better-trained teams have less of a penalty than sem-pro and amateur outfits).

Bench-clearing brawls. Never seen one on EHM, and they are rare in the upper echelons of the game I know, hell I've only seen one myself in the National league here in the UK, but would be one of those fun little 'rare' events that would add to the game, maybe only against particular rival-teams?

Obviously to get a smooth-running simulation out of the current code and get all the necessary leagues playable should be the priority, but these would be 'nice to haves' I think, and coding them in now would help if the match engine ever goes 3D in future releases?

Trading is a bit strange in this game, it is absolutely impossible to trade the best players (which is not bad, but with all the franchise guys tied until 2020, it's a long wait). But trading the lesser guys is too easy, specifically via the 'offer to all' option.

Just repeating what a few people have been asking for:

An editor. I do believe this is coming as when you look at the folders that get created there is a folder named 'editor'.
The ability to add to leagues, like adding an expansion team.
More control over day-to-day things like controlling the sales of tickets (would be cool, but not necessary)
Would love to see the menus be easier to navigate. I'm not sure why they changed this from EHM2007.
I would like see have the ability, in the tactics screen, to have at least 3 power play lines and 3 penalty killing lines.

Some of this stuff they could in FHM. I'm pretty sure they could do it in EHM as well.

I'd like to see a little more dynamic interactions with team ownership. OOTP has a neat system where teams have specific owners who have their own personalities, so you'd have to contend with a hands-on owner, a hyper-demanding owner, or maybe an aloof owner. Could add an element of depth and challenge and make the game seem livelier.

Many really good ideas in this thread, might be repeating some:

- Mac version, of course.
- Window mode in more resolutions.
- More interactions, this is really important I think. One of the biggest differences between EHM and FM since FM has made great strides in this area since 2007. Interactions with players, staff, owner. Would love to see team talks implemented. Now when a player is criticised in the press you can defend or attack him and then the owner and fans reacts to that but the player might continue to be unhappy. Player conversation in these situations would be great. Also talking with the captain about team moral etc. Mentorships as well! In FM the staff you can choose if you want feedback from staff and how frequent, that'd be great. Would also like more interactions with scouts around the draft, like being able to lay down some strategy for the draft.

- Improve trading. Related to the interactions with the other GM, and asking players to waive NTC. And of course implement ability to retain salary, future considerations and such.
- Maybe make more of an event of the draft day, with GM:s approaching you to trade picks etc. Same thing with deadline day, the deadline day has become an event in FM, think it should be in EHM as well.

- Revamp the practice section, again here turn to FM, the new training module (that came with...was it FM14 or this years?) in there is great, with individual training. Also, more coaches, conditioning coach namely.

- As people have said, move the captain selection out of the tactics section. You choose your captain and assistants before the season and then (again, like in FM) have a list of players who takes over an 'A' if a player is injured. And the option to have three A:s and no C.

From things no one (I guess) has mentioned so far: It'd be cool to see broken sticks on ice. It would be interesting to see stick breaking down during slapshot :) It's small thing that I think would add realism to gameplay. I also would like to see revisited World Championship including lower divisions. Formula of WC was so much different than nowadays and another interesting addition could be seeing lower interest of major players during Olympic (or World Cup) year. And last thing I was thinking about could be dynamic leagues reputations (not sure does it exists in EHM, but I know that it does in FM), for example almost 10 years ago Slovakian league was much stronger than now and we know how much stronger became NLA.

I'd like to see:
- graphical representation of attributes (FM style); changes in attributes indicated by arrows; tracking of attributes changes (FM) - general adaptation of FM attribute interface
- scouts to have nation knowledge and a team's knowledge based on that and affiliates (FM style)
- much better finance window (FM yet again)
- interface needs an overhaul in general, but I'm guessing that's coming
- personal training schedules and preferred moves (like FM, not sure if that's possible here)
- star ratings of training quality (FM)
- contract negotiations and general contracting overhaul
- pre-game data editor would be super awesome
- being able to right click names of teams, players, competitions etc. to select options.
- tutoring of youngsters by players (FM)
- assistants or head coaches rating of players on your roster in roster view (stars)
- better ways to track player's performance (not just form in last 5 games), such as a calendar view with player's stats for each game and an ability to see who the player played with the most during a game. That way if you like to experiment with lines a lot you can clearly see the best line combinations.

In general I definitely like the core of the gameplay and mechanics, but there are a LOT of things that EHM could borrow from FM. Seems like the interface stuff should be pretty easy to transfer over.

Also, not sure if it belongs here but I've signed some NHL quality scouts at 30k (pounds or euro not dollars) a year and they were asking for 12 to 17k. Seems way too low.

A 3rd option when looking at your roster under the Filter dropdown (changes bolded):

Available Only
Unavailable Only
All Players

Missing out on seeing your complete roster kinda sucks and I tend to forget to go verify statuses

To spin off of this, the colors of the "players" when watching a game need to be much more contrasting. I've played many games where the only way I know what's going on (I choose Key Events for what I view) is by noting which goalie the play is happening on because colors are way too close. Buffalo vs Boston and LA have been 2 of the most notable so far. Not sure why Boston needs to be brown when the away team against my blue home team

I would love to see on the roster screen what position players are dressed for (5v5) similar to how the goalies will show G1 and G2. It would make it easier to switch players around in positions without having to remember who is at what slot. Not sure if the space is there, but even as simple as C1-4, W1-3-5-7 (Left wing) W 2-4-6-8 (RW) D 1-3-5-7 (LD) D 2-4-6-8 (RD) would help a lot
