Bruins decided not to walk away.
So with Sturm on the LTIR the Bruins are just under the cap, around 400k, with 21 healthy players. (assuming Seguin is signed)

I've read that too.
I'm not too surprised to see Turco signed for low money. Dallas didn't want to keep him. He's getting old and his play hasn't quite been what it used to be. Plus, look at the way the UFA market has gone this offseason. It's crazy. And look at the goalie situation in the league. It's beginning to look like there are more goalies than jobs. Some of the older guys have to take less if they want to play still.

I read earlier that Flyers offered 1-year-deal worth 2 mills. to Turco but he rejected it.
Flyers and Capitals has been in rumours. Phillies has 300.000 cap space, so they would sell players for Niemi. Capitals has Varlamov-Neuvirth, so maybe Niemi isn't going there.
You know, just because Niemi was HOT in the playoffs doesn't mean he's worth $2.75 million/year. The team in front of him won the Stanley Cup, not his goaltending. I think in this case the arbitrator(s) were wrong.
I think Niemi (and his agent Bill Zito) made mistake at rejecting Blackhawks offers. Under 2 mills/year isn't bad, if they have made first one-year-deal and next year made lil bit bigger deal and then big and long deal.
It seems that Niemi will not play for Stanley Cup at next season. The most has starting goalie and if Niemi wants big paycheck, he should go to KHL.
P.s. Niemi wasn't superb in playoffs, he just made few important saves like Chris Osgood in his Detroit years.

Most NHL goalies can make the important saves, and I think that Michael Leighton was much better in the playoffs that Niemi. I like Niemi, don't get me wrong, it's just that I agree with you in that he should have signed the Blackhawks offer.

The Montral Canadiens?? They trade Halak to put Price at the top so why they would try to sign Niemi? If it wasn't from the Flyers cap, I would bet 100$ that he's gonna sign with them.
Yeah I think the arbitration overrated Niemi a tad but maybe he can find that sort of money at a low end team with cap room. The real problem for Chicago was the salary cap and in the goalie position but the real problem is Huet he is on crazy money $6 mill I heard and needs to be bought out.
Last few years he has played in AHL and last year he played 16 games in Nashville. I think his time in NHL is over and come to Europe (KHL, DEL or National League A), AHL isn't the most respectful league to end great career (over 600 NHL games).
P.s. Scatchard is very overrated in Ehm, I hate that he allways wins Selke Trophy

I've heard good things about him. He's very experienced as an assistant. I think he's one of those guys that just works as an assistant and not a head coach. He's going to be Julien's "eye in the sky", watching from up in the team's sky box.

Haven't heard about him for a while.
He used to be a decent defensive forward but he's disappeared over the last several years. Was it a case of him not being able to adapt the new NHL style?
