RIP Coach Burns.
He was a great coach and from all accounts I've heard he was a really great guy off the ice. I remember back when he coached the Habs, even though I hated Montreal, I always had a respect for him. I was thrilled when he came to the Bruins and sad when he left. Honestly, he was one of the best coaches of his generation.
He's really got to be an inspiration to people suffering from cancer. He beat it not just once but twice. It's the third bout of cancer that took him. The man was one hell of a fighter.

And further reason why I don't waste my time watching it anymore.
Heh. I quit giving a darn about the NHL several years ago and don't miss it much. Actually, it allowed me to appreciate the QMJHL more and widen my horizons, looking at what happens in hockey in other countries. I feel my hockey experience is more complete now

That said, I'm curious. What's he done?

This afternoon's game between the Flyers and the Flames went to OT. Mike Richards scored the winning goal with a slap shot from the top of the faceoff circle with about 2:00 left. But it gets waved off, and the ref (Ghislain Hebert) then decides to call a penalty (yes, he called it well after the play). The call is Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Pronger, because while screening the goalie, he briefly stuck his left arm out.
That was it. He stuck his left arm out for a brief second. This was such a barbaric act, that it warranted a penalty, and the cancellation of a game-winning goal.

I love the Canadian juniors. EHM 2004 got me into them when one day I decided to try something other than the NHL. I ended up picking Kitchener of the OHL, and it led to one of my longest, and most enjoyable EHM saves yet.YZG wrote:Actually, it allowed me to appreciate the QMJHL more and widen my horizons
It's a shame there's zero coverage of them down here in Philadelphia (and probably even the rest of the U.S.). I'd love to follow the real thing, apart from staring at boxscores every night.
But I'm getting off topic.

Bettman's a douche, and until he's gone, I can't see myself regaining league-wide interest in the NHL. It's just gotten too convoluted with its rules, and most annoyingly: the officiating is starting to resemble a high school gym class. "Your stick's above the knees, penalty!".
I don't know... my blood vessels just can't tolerate any more than Flyers games.

I took a look at the various CHL league's sites to check the options they offer to watch live games via their websites and was shocked by the prices charged by the league: almost $300 (Canadian, but it makes little difference these days) for the All-Access Pass for OHL and WHL games and $200 for the QMJHL (there are less expensive team packages as well for all 3 leagues, and it's free in the QMJHL if your internet connection is provided by the league's sponsor). That was a shock, because a couple years ago I could watch all and any QMJHL game I wanted via the league's website for free. I guess that service proved very popular...B. Anyone seen the HBO's Pens/Caps 24/7 document? The first part was impressive, quite brilliant even! They are not my favorite teams, but its still great to see the teams in depth, especially when other team is riding on a winning streak and one in its longest losing streak since 2007. Only thing that bothered me was that I hoped there would be document like this for every team, but I guess thats not included in Bettman's plan to open the league to wider audience. The coaches sure know how to
