My understanding is NHL Draft rights only last two years; are there any examples of NHL draftees choosing to play in the KHL when the NHL team still has rights?
Disclaimer: Haven't followed this discussion 100% so let me know if this is not what you were talking about
NHL teams keep the rights on Russian players they draft until they become NHL UFAs (until they are 26-27). Think it's because the NHL and KHL doesn't have a working agreement.
I know this because the entire NYR fanbase freaked out when Igor Shestyorkin signed an extension with SKA until 2019, but we have his rights until he's 27.
There are more examples, Nikita Gusev is a good one, drafted by Bolts in 2012 but they still have his rights and he intends to come over at some point.
I can't deny "that's what I was asking" (though I never imagined it'd connect to guys in their mid/late 20s! HaHa The impression I got was Dontirri is wanting the KHL to be able to sign NA players of Major Junior age)
The KHL/NHL don't have an "agreement" but had a "memo of understanding" regarding player transfers - do they still have this understanding?
I first thought it was 4 year rights just like NCAA, but did a lot of digging after Shestyorkin signed his new deal (was scared we'd lose him) and found out we have his rights until he's a UFA.
It's definitely because there is no agreement since the rest of EU has the usual 2-4 years of rights as far as i know.
The IIHF countries now has four years for their players. I heard some rumour Switzerland might be exempt from that but I've not seen it mentioned anywhere credible

He means there is no chance of that happening. NHL is clearly better of the two, but I am under the impression that the difference is not as drastic as the North Americans tend to believe. I do not even know where they have got the idea, to be honest. Hardly anyone watches European ice hockey on the other side of the pond.

OK.....to me it still makes no sense/has no relevance
And IMO the difference is drastic.....the highest KHL goal scorer ever (in a season) isn't good enough for the NHL, guys that are not top 6 forwards in the NHL are top scorers in the KHL, and Russia's only won one best-on-best tournament ever and that was 35 years ago and they've repeatedly performed poorly in multiple Olympics (Russian pro hockey is extremely overrated IMO)
I think this one is a much better source than the one you brought up.
This will be my last reply on the NHL vs. KHL debate on this thread in order to prevent further off-topic discussion.
Given the KHL's purpose is to benefit the national team (as stated by the KHL), and the League is filled with Russians, I'm surprised you don't see the connection.....and thinking a single exhibition game from 8 years ago between a KHL team and a middle of the pack NHL team (which the KHL team lost) helps your case is odd IMO
nino33 wrote:That seems weird to me that "KHL rights" would last longer than "NCAA rights"
AFAIK the NHL rights on KHL players don't expire...(i mean IRL).
Btw, I replied to all the things here at the SI games forums, I didn't follow this topic here for some reasons.

I answered on SI (I wondered if it's a database/editing error, because I checked TBL 8.2 and you didn't give KHL Rights to the KHL draftee you used as an example)
Would it be possible to implement a ''Sort by tab'' kind of feature in the game stats section(like the way they're sortable in the Player Stats for a league)? I would love to be able to sort players by Points, Game Rating, Shots, PIM, Conditioning, it would really make things easier than trying to pan over every stat, matching it with each player.
Now that there have been some improvements to retiring jersey numbers, i would love to have captaincy to have an effect for this. It would be nice if you could see "A" or "C" on the stats also and if a player had served some time as a leader in the team, it would effect on his possible jersey retirement.
AFAIK if the player is played 1000++ games for your team only in his entire career and than retire as your team member, will get his number raise in banner.

Other than that, no sure.
Think the criteria for this might have/might be changing from something Riz posted a while back. Might have been in the change-list for the most recent version.
It's still an automatic thing I think, but the player doesn't have to be a 'one-club-man' anymore I understood? Not played it enough to have had it happen so far.

New features:
-------------
- Added team action to Set Team Captains any time of the year (one captain, two alternates)
- Added news about announcing team captains and the request to set them at the start of the season
- Added ability to Set Team Captains any time of the year from the team screen
- Club captain and alternate captains now identified in the club screen player list with (C) and (A)
- Club captains listed in the general team information panel
Yeah that's pretty awesome. I also like the part about the weight of the players...playing in junior after year 2 you only get players betweeb 135-160 pounds. 180+ pounds players are extremely rare to find.
I'm not getting these two changes below in my save. Does it come in effect only if i start a new game?

No, you should be able to do it on an old save. Here's where it is:
My wish for the future updates: human manager profiles should have a little more data. Would be nice if the profiles were similar as CPU managers. For example atm there isn't even your age even though the game asks for your birthday when you start...
The new update seems otherwise great but I'm not sure the adjustments on scoring levels were good. I thought it was pretty good earlier and the scores&players' points per season seemed realistic. Have to play a full season to see how it pans out though.
Just to add onto the new 'Select captains feature' Being prompted to replace your captain with an alternate when they're out with injury. (Run 3 alternates for a few games, what have you, then when your captain is dressed again the 3rd alternate disappears)
Also giving the option to run 3 alternates instead of a captain, as well as rotating alternates/captains IE Senators have Turris an Alternate at home and Phaneuf wears the "A" on the road, and rotating captains like the Wild did for so many years, though the rotating captains thing isn't necessary, running 3 alternates/having an 'interim' alternate when there's injuries would be a small detail to add in the future.

I just noticed something...maybe I've been wrong all those years so someone correct me if that's the case. When I choose my captain and assistants I always look at influence and teamwork. With the last update I see Riz put influence and determination at the attributes to look at. How do you guys select yours?
I remember reading in a scouting report that a player has good leadership abilities and he had very low determination but 17 influence and 20 teamwork. I remember finding it very odd as i thought influence and determination were more important.
Just curious, does the captain have any influence among the team ore the other players in the game ? Playing FM , the role of the captain gained more importance with each version, becoming more complex. So i was curios what is his importance in EHM.
