that's exactly what i did, using Archi's tool written specifically for the job. i'm happy with it, it randomises who gets hits so a player is no longer guaranteed to play well just because they're heavier. before the weight editing patch i drafted Taylor Pyatt very late in a fantasy draft and he scored 65 points for me on the second line, even though my top scorer only had about 75. his average rating was the best for any skater on my team, 8.80 or something. with the weight edits Pyatt is a 25 point guy, which is where his recent history says he should be, average rating just under 7. on the other hand it does require you to pay attention to players' weights because if one guy gets heavier or lighter they will suddenly play a lot better or worse; you'll need to use the saved game editor to change them if you want to keep everything equal, although very few players will actually change weights after they enter the NHL. also for some reason i can't explain teams goals for averages and goalie performance are correct, but individual players score too few points. maybe one gets to 100, 3-4 in the 90s and about 10 in the 80s. it works a lot like this season's and last season's NHL scoring race, but both are very low scoring years. i still easily prefer it to my old patch though.

if you want i can upload the database to mediafire where you can download it from?

Keith Tkachunk, Dustin Bigfyuglyin Vladomir Kruton Kyle Unwellwood and Alexander Iate2000deepfriedchickensyesrerday are the exceptions then? Their weights always change. :)

Yeah, that would be awesome, thanks. Also re players weights changing, it only happens until the age of 22. After that, there shouldn't be any additional growth in either height or weight.

I did quite a bit of testing (http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 110&t=8146) and Height/Weight gain basically occurs at game start-up and that's it....whether 12 years old, or 16 years old, or 20 years old, they gain when you first start your game and then pretty much never again

here's the link to the weights file, i already patched it with the realism edits and Archi's player info generator:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ie5attw4vmwl77v
i checked a sim and three years after i started it there were about two or three pages of players who'd grown bigger and a page of players who'd shrunk, probably about 50 players, so they wouldn't take long to edit back. plus most of them were career AHLers, only spotted Evander Kane and Dylan McIlrath who might make something of themselves. so really you could get away with not editing for the first few years. the trouble comes when regens become common because i don't think they grow up to weigh the same as their original player. but at least for me this won't be a problem as OOTPHockey will be out before i get that far in this game ;)

please make sure if you do run this database to use "full detail" for all leagues you want realism for; the patch doesn't work otherwise

I did some testing by tracking the players I drafted. From the age of 18 until 22 players weight changed each year on their birthday. Some guys would be drafted at 6'1 175 and end up 6'1 205 by the age of 22. It's not just at game start up.

I didn't know weight changed on a players birthday...

If bobmcgoo found only 100-150 players had weight increases after three years, then it doesn't seem to me that all players age 18-22 are gaining weight each year...

I've been trying to understand height/weight gain for awhile now (mostly so I can use the knowledge when creating young players for my 1974 db)......in my testing (about 100 players under age 22 - three seperate tests) only a couple/few times did a player gain weight after start-up, and noone ever gained weight year upon year.....I used the SavedGame Editor to check results, maybe it shows different then what shows in-game

Wait you actually changed the attributes of NHL players?

What about the managers who like to sign players from european leagues? They will be unbalanced.

Sigh. Sounds like I just don't get to play a reasonable NHL sim during my lifetime.

I take it therefore you haven't bothered to look at the graphs posted by bobmcgoo earlier in this thread.

I really don't understand the purpose/intent of your post. Constructive criticism is absolutely fine and indeed very useful, but the way I read your post is that you're simply taking a swipe at bobmcgoo's good work??? :dunno:

Yes I did! I recently finished my first season with the Rangers. I've been meaning to post some screenshots showing the scorers, etc. I'll try to do it tonight. :-)

In my previous game with capitals point leader at the end of season who was Ryan Getzlaf has 103 points,Jonathan Toews behind with 97 points and finally Corry Perry with 96 so it means patch woks perfectly :-)
My best player Alex Ovechkin has `just` 90 points...
I love this patch great work guys :-)

Re: EHM Realism Patch

Okay, I thought I'd post a comparison between my game and the real life NHL 2011/12 statistics. Just for full disclosure, my game set up was as follows: CSD Patch + Manimal v4.1b + Player Info Generator + EHM Realism Patch. Other than the Player Info and Realism Patch, I hadn't modified the EHM rosters any further. I've uploaded some screenshots here but I've re-produced all of them as tables below so that I can compare them to the real life 2011/12 season. The aforementioned link also has some AHL screenshots but that was played on quick sim rather than full sim.

The thing that was most striking was the lower scoring games (which is of course the main aim of the Patch!). I didn't really notice the lower goalscoring and goaltender stats during my season but that's because it's something that's harder to track over the course of the season. But now I look back at the end of season stats, it's not too bad at all. Average goals scored, points and GAA for the top ten players in each category are all very close to real life.

When I look at the average goals scored per game stats, it is pretty remarkable how close the game is to real life. The difference between the average goals scored for the top ten scoring teams in EHM and real life is only 0.12 goals per game - if you average that difference over the course of an 82 game season, that's a difference of 9.8 goals over 82 games. So it's the equivalent of nine out of ten games having the same number of goals scored as real life. This is really great stuff, Alex. =D>

PP opportunities on the other hand were significantly higher than real life, but IIRC you chose to drop/reduce the effect on PP opportunities owing the effects it has on fighting.

that's even better than i expected... if you take Brian Elliott's record-setting year out the goalie stats would be almost identical. also i think the Ducks probably scored 3.09 goals a game? brings the average down to 3.03. power plays are necessarily too high because lower aggression wipes out fighting which i tried to keep in as much as possible. in fact seemingly the only problem with the patch is that fighting is too low. i have to admit i can't go back to the old database anymore.

Yes, you're right about the Ducks! I'll correct the table.

I'm tempted to run a vacation sim with all leagues set to enhanced to see exactly how all the other leagues fare. It didn't take long to make those tables in Excel.

Am I imagining this, or does this close the gap between the affected attributes of players? I don't know if it's just because it has been a while since I played EHM, but the game felt a bit tighter in this respect. There was less of a "night and day" difference between my lines - which felt more representative of how it is in real life.

I downloaded the realism patch where you also made the weight adjustment to eliminate the bug where heavy players dominate and it's improved the game so much for me. I only needed to make a few changes to the database before I started my game (edited a few players CAs to correct team depth charts and added a lot of major injuries that occured in the 2011/12 season) and the results have been awesome.

Player performance is a lot more erratic (as it should be), you see a lot more variance in point totals from year to year and players go through hot and cold streaks during seasons that are more representative of real life. I'm currently in my third season as the Jets, in the first year LA beat the Pens to win the cup and in the second season the Rangers beat the Blackhawks. Stamkos won the art ross in 2011/12 with 105 points and Malkin won it the next year with 104 points (after finishing 2nd in 2012).

The only thing that is a bit off is that some of the better offensive defensemen struggle to produce (Karlsson, Weber, Suter) while other guys like Kronwall and Edler produce far too much. I think defensive scoring depends a lot more on the quality of team a player is on as opposed to their actual abilities as Weber has started putting up huge numbers since he was traded to the Flyers at the 2014 trade deadline. Also, there seems to be a bug with the Selke trophy as it was awarded to Steve MacIntyre with no runner up in the 2011/12 season and in the 2012/13 season it wasn't awarded at all. That may be to do with the CSD patch though.

Thanks! I'll change the first post to make the weight-adjusted file easier to find.

I know what you mean by this but I don't think it's caused by the realism patch; it's something I've always noticed in EHM. Same with the own-team-boost that Squadz mentioned here http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 9&start=70, where games that you manage have more shots and more goals for both teams. Just a quirk with the game we have to live with to enjoy it.

The first post has been edited to include information about all patches available - please see there for download links. It may be worth reading even if you already have downloaded one of the patches.

Thanks for that. I've added it to my list of possible bugs to investigate. I'm not sure when I'll time to check out the bugs in my list - probably in two years' time! :D

Btw, I'm running a season sim for my UK roster research using the Realism Patch (not with the height/weight mod though). I'll post the end of season UK EIHL and EPL stats and compare them with the end of the real life 2011/12 season stats like I did for the NHL.

Unfortunately the British EIHL doesn't play out quite as well as the NHL with the Realism Patch. I'll try some time simming a season without the Realism Patch to see how the EIHL fares - because without this it is hard to say by how much the Patch has reduced the EIHL. It might be that the EIHL was under-scoring in the first place.

Re: EHM Realism Patch

Post by archibalduk »

With regards to the issue with larger/heavier players performing better in game than smaller ones, I thought I'd take a look at what effect the strength attribute has. Based on my test, it seems it has no effect whatsoever!

To test it, I copied Marian Gaborik's attributes (all player attributes - including height and weight) and date of birth to 11 existing players in the game. I then set one to have the same strength as Gaborik and the remaining 10 I set to different strength ratings (2x with a strength attribute of 1, 2x 5, 2x 10, 2x 15 and 2x 20). Having simmed through the season (I had previously applied the Realism Patch to the DB before I duplicated Gaborik's attributes) I found that they all performed at a reasonably similar level:

So now I'm wondering if perhaps the CA value itself could be lowered the larger a player is... :-k
