Yes I did! I recently finished my first season with the Rangers. I've been meaning to post some screenshots showing the scorers, etc. I'll try to do it tonight. :-)

In my previous game with capitals point leader at the end of season who was Ryan Getzlaf has 103 points,Jonathan Toews behind with 97 points and finally Corry Perry with 96 so it means patch woks perfectly :-)
My best player Alex Ovechkin has `just` 90 points...
I love this patch great work guys :-)

Okay, I thought I'd post a comparison between my game and the real life NHL 2011/12 statistics. Just for full disclosure, my game set up was as follows: CSD Patch + Manimal v4.1b + Player Info Generator + EHM Realism Patch. Other than the Player Info and Realism Patch, I hadn't modified the EHM rosters any further. I've uploaded some screenshots here but I've re-produced all of them as tables below so that I can compare them to the real life 2011/12 season. The aforementioned link also has some AHL screenshots but that was played on quick sim rather than full sim.

The thing that was most striking was the lower scoring games (which is of course the main aim of the Patch!). I didn't really notice the lower goalscoring and goaltender stats during my season but that's because it's something that's harder to track over the course of the season. But now I look back at the end of season stats, it's not too bad at all. Average goals scored, points and GAA for the top ten players in each category are all very close to real life.

When I look at the average goals scored per game stats, it is pretty remarkable how close the game is to real life. The difference between the average goals scored for the top ten scoring teams in EHM and real life is only 0.12 goals per game - if you average that difference over the course of an 82 game season, that's a difference of 9.8 goals over 82 games. So it's the equivalent of nine out of ten games having the same number of goals scored as real life. This is really great stuff, Alex. =D>

PP opportunities on the other hand were significantly higher than real life, but IIRC you chose to drop/reduce the effect on PP opportunities owing the effects it has on fighting.

that's even better than i expected... if you take Brian Elliott's record-setting year out the goalie stats would be almost identical. also i think the Ducks probably scored 3.09 goals a game? brings the average down to 3.03. power plays are necessarily too high because lower aggression wipes out fighting which i tried to keep in as much as possible. in fact seemingly the only problem with the patch is that fighting is too low. i have to admit i can't go back to the old database anymore.

Yes, you're right about the Ducks! I'll correct the table.

I'm tempted to run a vacation sim with all leagues set to enhanced to see exactly how all the other leagues fare. It didn't take long to make those tables in Excel.

Am I imagining this, or does this close the gap between the affected attributes of players? I don't know if it's just because it has been a while since I played EHM, but the game felt a bit tighter in this respect. There was less of a "night and day" difference between my lines - which felt more representative of how it is in real life.

bobmcgoo wrote:feel i've gotta defend Archi's and my project here. i specifically said in the first post "3) The database I have at the moment has changed every player in the game, so while the NHL is now realistic I imagine that other leagues won't be." so how you got any impression that i just changed NHL players, i'm not sure. and then a few pages later, if you've have bothered to read first, you'd see Alessandro confirm that it does actually work for European leagues too.

the patch is approaching 400 downloads if you include the mediafire link too, and the only issue had was found to be with running the game on a low detail setting. so clearly something is working. i hate to praise my own project but the simple fact is it does the job it's intended to do. if it doesn't do what you intend it to do, don't use it - although i think it does do what you want, you just didn't read. but like Archi said, constructive criticism is fine. if anyone has any comments or suggestions for improvement i'd love to hear. did you ever start that new game Archi, anyone else? is it still working okay?
I downloaded the realism patch where you also made the weight adjustment to eliminate the bug where heavy players dominate and it's improved the game so much for me. I only needed to make a few changes to the database before I started my game (edited a few players CAs to correct team depth charts and added a lot of major injuries that occured in the 2011/12 season) and the results have been awesome.

Player performance is a lot more erratic (as it should be), you see a lot more variance in point totals from year to year and players go through hot and cold streaks during seasons that are more representative of real life. I'm currently in my third season as the Jets, in the first year LA beat the Pens to win the cup and in the second season the Rangers beat the Blackhawks. Stamkos won the art ross in 2011/12 with 105 points and Malkin won it the next year with 104 points (after finishing 2nd in 2012).

The only thing that is a bit off is that some of the better offensive defensemen struggle to produce (Karlsson, Weber, Suter) while other guys like Kronwall and Edler produce far too much. I think defensive scoring depends a lot more on the quality of team a player is on as opposed to their actual abilities as Weber has started putting up huge numbers since he was traded to the Flyers at the 2014 trade deadline. Also, there seems to be a bug with the Selke trophy as it was awarded to Steve MacIntyre with no runner up in the 2011/12 season and in the 2012/13 season it wasn't awarded at all. That may be to do with the CSD patch though.

Thanks! I'll change the first post to make the weight-adjusted file easier to find.

I know what you mean by this but I don't think it's caused by the realism patch; it's something I've always noticed in EHM. Same with the own-team-boost that Squadz mentioned here http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 9&start=70, where games that you manage have more shots and more goals for both teams. Just a quirk with the game we have to live with to enjoy it.

Thanks for that. I've added it to my list of possible bugs to investigate. I'm not sure when I'll time to check out the bugs in my list - probably in two years' time! :D

Btw, I'm running a season sim for my UK roster research using the Realism Patch (not with the height/weight mod though). I'll post the end of season UK EIHL and EPL stats and compare them with the end of the real life 2011/12 season stats like I did for the NHL.

Unfortunately the British EIHL doesn't play out quite as well as the NHL with the Realism Patch. I'll try some time simming a season without the Realism Patch to see how the EIHL fares - because without this it is hard to say by how much the Patch has reduced the EIHL. It might be that the EIHL was under-scoring in the first place.

I'm also keeping a table of my single season sims with the Realism Patch to track how each league fared with regards to average goals scored:

Re: EHM Realism Patch

With regards to the issue with larger/heavier players performing better in game than smaller ones, I thought I'd take a look at what effect the strength attribute has. Based on my test, it seems it has no effect whatsoever!

To test it, I copied Marian Gaborik's attributes (all player attributes - including height and weight) and date of birth to 11 existing players in the game. I then set one to have the same strength as Gaborik and the remaining 10 I set to different strength ratings (2x with a strength attribute of 1, 2x 5, 2x 10, 2x 15 and 2x 20). Having simmed through the season (I had previously applied the Realism Patch to the DB before I duplicated Gaborik's attributes) I found that they all performed at a reasonably similar level:

[th][/th][th][/th][th]Strength (Editor)[/th][th]Strength (End of Season)[/th][th]GP[/th][th]G[/th][th]A[/th][th]Pts[/th][th]Pts Per Game[/th][th]Avg Rating[/th]
So now I'm wondering if perhaps the CA value itself could be lowered the larger a player is... :-k

Yes strenght makes no effet, it's size which matters.

The reason I thought strength was worth looking at is because the version of Champ Man that preceded EHM (CM 03/04 IIRC) had a bug/issue whereby strength was greatly over-rated in that players with higher strength ratings would play significantly better. Alas, and thankfully, this doesn't affect EHM.

Exactly as Alessandro says, size matters most. It all relates to hits per game: the more hits, the higher the game rating. (Not an absolute rule, I know, but it's pretty consistent.)

I started a thread back during the Sarnia challenge about the size/strength/aggression/hitting relationship to see how they relate to hits per game. My reason to look into it was that I had some strong/aggressive/hard-hitting players on my team and they were getting absolutely zero hits per game. The problem- they were all really small.

Here's the link to that: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... =17&t=5535

I'm not sure if it would be a CA/PA issue because you can take a guy like Greg Moore, who is playing with the Augsburg Panthers in the latest rosters, and put him on a 1st or 2nd line and he'll put up 8's and 9's almost every game. His CA is around 90 and I think his PA is around 120-125, but I think he would be that good even if his CA was 90-95. (By the way he weighs 218 lbs (99 kg))

This is pretty awesome! I'm hoping to start a game soon and will definitely be looking to use this in combination with the UUDB.

Wow, this is cool. I think Weight and height should influence players a little bit though, not take away all effect it has.

Is there any way to fix contract issues? Like players would accept longer contracts, and making it possible to change the start date of a contract so it doesnt end up being a 2 year ELC

The Realism Patch only changes player attributes rather than contract details. Unfortunately we cannot modify the AI's willingness to sign longer contracts.

I think the ELC eligibilty can be altered by editing a player's Date of First Pro Contract setting in the database. However there is no way of editing this at the moment - but I'm working on it.

How come basically all NHL forwards now have their offensive role set to "20"?

I am using 4.2b and the Realism Patch. Just implemented the realism patch for the first time, and have been reading something about Height/weight attributes have been modified in order to more accurately simulate realism.

However, afterwards I checked using the editor and all NHL forwards are now offensive players. Why is that?

first of all, they were set to 20 because (it seems to me) offensive role/defensive role define how many scoring chances and shots on goal a team creates/stops in a game. So a team of purely "20 offensive role" guys playing against a team of "1 defensive role" guys will create a very high number of chances/shots no matter what other stats each player has (like creativity for the offensive team, positioning for the defensive team etc). so initially i thought i needed to raise the offensive role of all forwards to 20 so that they create enough shots in the game for the goalie save percentages to be right.

but then i noticed that a player is judged by the AI to be offensive or defensive based on his offensive/defensive role attribute, so with the first patch version the AI thinks all players are similarly good in offensive situations, as you noticed. so to make this better in the second patch i changed it so all offensive roles were raised by four and all defensive roles were decreased by four. so now the AI judges players' mentalities roughly similar to that which they are in real life, in that not every player is automatically offensive, while still getting realistic results.

this is why the first post on this thread has the second, updated patch which has more variation between the forwards than the first patch. if this bothers you, you can download that patch instead. hope this makes sense!

So it sounds like the one hosted in our Downloads Database is out of date? Please would you mind uploading / emailing the updated csv to me and I will update the Downloads Database.

it is a slightly older CSV file yes, but there is no "set" CSV file for the second version of the patch because it uses both percentage and value changes, so you can't run the attribute editor once to change everything correctly. so i could apply the second patch to the latest rosters and upload the rosters instead (like i did for my mediafire link)? i think its either that or make a readme file with DIY instructions.

Ah I see! I had been working on an improved version of the MET Attribute Editor which allows you to choose value/percent for each individual attributes. This would resolve this difficulty.

Would you mind making a list of the changes to be made and whether they should be by value or percent? Then once I finish the new editor, I can add you new csv file to the new editor.

So is this second version much different to the first version? Is the scoring level still the same, or have the Offensive Role tweak had an effect on this?

i sent you a PM.

to be honest it's been a long time since i did this editing and i've deleted the results. all i remember is that the simulations were very similar to the ones i got using the original patch. it will certainly put scoring at a much more believable level for high-scoring leagues
